I have about $6 a day for food.

If you live in the U.S., you can price match produce at Walmart. That's where I get almost all of my fruit.

If you live near a Trader Joe's, they have excellent prices on organic greens. That's where I shop for mine.

Also, I just learned that many cities have programs to get free food boxes. They come with fresh produce, so
that would be free. The cooked food included in the box you could maybe trade with your college room mates?

Good luck!

They absolutely can be. Go check it out, then you'll know. You might also find some real treasures there! Ü

Most sprouting seeds are extremely cheap - after you sprout the seeds it's not uncommon to end up with over a pound of sprouts for under $1!

Sprouts are also the freshest food you can possibly eat when you grow them yourself and contain very high quantities of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other phytonutrients that you can't get in other foods. Sprouting seeds can actually increase the levels of some vitamins by 100% to 3000%!

So not only are they cheaper then most (raw vegan) food you can buy, they're also more nutritious.

You can also get good deals at Costco, Sams club etc if you are close. Esp things like bulk spinach.

I completely agree with this. You could look into soaking and/or sprouting all kinds of food items that are raw. Not only seeds, but beans and rice also. Quinoa is another one that works decently when soaked for at least 24 hours.

I meant "seeds" generically (including legumes, nuts, grains, and pseudograins), but I should have been more specific.

It's always better to sprout (germinate) seeds (and nuts, legumes, and grains and pseudograins) the just soak them, as soaking just gets rid of the enzyme inhibitors but leaves most of the nutrient inhibitors/antinutrients intact. Better to soak quinoa for just 4 hours and then germinate it for 1 - 2 days, rinsing 3 times a day.

Shop in Mexican neighborhoods, because they have the cheapest produce. I learned this the hard way. Anywhere where white or black people live, the store charges you an arm and a leg for the food. Mexican neighborhoods? The most economical. I will have to say that Mexican neighborhoods is much cheaper than Trader Joe's, even though Trader Joe's is cheaper than many food chain stores.

Yes, I agree to shop in the local Mexican stores, but they have never had organic greens. I was referring to the organic greens that Trader Joe's sells. Best price on organic greens I have ever seen!
