I am following proper food combining and had a question about a few veggies that are fruit.
I eat fruit alone...but there is the fact that Cucumbers and Tomatoes are really FRUIT and I am putting them on my salad. Sometimes, more times than not, I get slight indigestion from a salad with cucumber (I can tell cause they are repeating/burping.) and tomatoes are giving me acid stomach. So now I am wondering if I should be treating them as fruit in my food combinations ?
My fruit motto is "Eat them alone...or leave them alone "...my only exception being apple in a green drink. That i can "handle".
Thanks everyone !!

twinee1,
From what I have read about food combining, non-sweet fruits such as avocados, tomatoes, cukes an such can be combined as a veggie due to the fact that they don't really affect the blood sugar the way that sweet fruits do. It may be something else with the veggies that our effecting you, probably not the technicality that it's a fruit. Is there anything else that you're including in your salad? What about dressing?

I do not use dressing...usually a salad herb, maybe lemon.
I think the food combining has to do with exit time more than blood sugar response.
Hi,
I food combine too and have found that tomatoes are too acidic so I stopped having them. I also have to peel my cucumber skins to ease digestion. How much lemon are you using?? Lemons can be very cleansing so it may be causing that too. I also know they can combine with lettuces well and celery.
This is just my experience. Maybe try eliminating one item for one day and then the other the next day and see if the reaction occurs to determine with food is the culprit:).
Good luck

The reason people use food combining, is because of the enzymes needed to digest certain foods.
I would think it might be the lemons as dressing not necessarily the tomatoes, although you could try sun dried tomatoes, as that seems to not cause as many challenges with people who do have tomatoe issues.
but I just eat what I like at any time, most raw food teachers, say don't worry so much about the food combining up front, just transition to raw, and your body (once it's detoxed) will let you know what it wants and when.

RP is right. I understand from what little I have read about it....
It takes different enzymes to diegest different foods. If eating foods at the same time that used different enzymes then the result is incomplete digestion.

what i would suggest is to take the seeds out of the cucumbers... i heard from some people that they cant digest these very well.

Thanks for the tips. I will nix the lemon first, and the tomato (when eating cooked I could never handle tomato products...) and peel my (using seedless, non waxed ) cucumbers then if still need to eliminate them.
