Hello,
I have grown two trays of wheatgrass and both times yielded grass that was not a deep green. The color resembled a pale green. I followed all directions from the kit. What factors contribute to the color of grass? I am operating with the assumption that the darker the green the more nutritious the grass. If that assumption is correct, I want to figure out how to grow dark green wheatgrass.
Thank you,
Stephen

are you sure it is getting plenty of light?

Thank you for your response. I keep it indoors by a window that gets a indirect sunlight. Is that okay?

should be good enough. What do you keep your indoor temp at? What seeds are using? Do you water the roots only? Wheatgrass just needs light but not straight sun. Did you see my post on growing wheatgrass. Do you use a fan for ventilation?

dmd,
My indoor temperature fluctuates. During the day when I am not home the thermostat is set to 80. It is like that for about 6-7 hours. When home, it is set at 77. That is probably too warm, right. And I don't have a fan or any other ventilation system. I found some mold today in a few spots. Can that cause a lighter color? I do water the roots only. That is okay, right? So, would you say I need a cooler indoor temp and ventilation? I saw your post on growing wheatgrass. Where did you get those computer fans? That is a cool idea.

Stephen the high temp all the time could be a problem without ventilation. I also turn my heat up to 80 while i am at work but turn it down to 70 once i get home. 77 may be a little high without a fan. Those fans i am using are computer fans that i had sitting around since i am a network engineer. Just hooked into a switch that i bought at home depot. Any desk fan should work though if it has a multi setting on it like low, medium and high. How are you watering the roots. Are they moist and not soaked on a daily basis. Do you have a drainage for the water? I doubt mold will cause a lighter color. Are the seeds getting natural light in your window? I mist my top nightly also before i go to bed. Like today i checked and my roots where still damp so i didnt water much today. You dont want to over water as that will relate to mold. Can you post a picture of your grass in the window as i would like to see how much indirect light its actually getting. My window doesn't get direct sun but its bright all day and not placed in a dark or shady window.
