Following on from the gas/wind thread I thought it might be fun to have a BM/transit thread. I've been fascinated by a few comments in the fasting forum but because I am not fasting, I thought it would be rude to but in (no pun intended!)
So how is everyone doing BM and transit wise whilst on Raw? I am pleased to report frequent and easy passing of BMs with 99% digestion (the odd dozen tomato seed aside). I worked out that my transit time is running at about 20-22 hours which I'm happy with I think ...

Hmm, you seem to have a fascination with bodily functions, Mystic :)
A transit time of 18-24 hours is pretty good - lots of people on SAD and even some raw vegans have transit times of 72 hours or longer! Plenty of time for things to ferment and parasites to make a comfortable home.
If you fast for extended periods of time then bowel movements stop altogether (until you break the fast).

I went 3 times yesterday ~ cow pies as soon as I sat down. What's my transit time? :D

I eat loads of fruit, and three days ago I ate 1.5 watermelons in the morning and saw it in the porcelain bowl before bed. I've noticed that fruits digest much quicker than other plants. Other stuff seems to have a slightly longer transit time, probably in the same range of 20hrs or so....which I also think is good. Though I do notice that it's easier to eliminate and is more........satisfying/feels better/thorough......if I squat on the toilet. LOL I need to get me one of those squatting stools, that or move to the woods. LOL

Well it's not so much that I am fascinated by bodily functions - though there is a whole world to investigate there methinks - it has been more about people being squeamish about talking about such things and others getting excited about having even one BM a day. I have lots lol. 6 at least today so far. When I was young we kept ponies and they produced about 8 BMs a day. More than one a day makes much more sense. I will ask bf about his ... I don't think he has many.

One a day is not enough - the general rule of thumb is that it's healthy to have a bowel movement for every meal that you had the day before.

I don't really have meals. I start in the morning with fruit and grace on through the day ending with a large plateful of raw at about 5pm. I asked bf. He has two at best.

That would be why you had 6 bms (and why the horses had 8 - continuous grazing = more bms).

Well it seems to work quite well for me.

I didn't say it was a bad thing, just that it explains why you had 6 bms. Grazing is fine if that's what works for you.

I didn't say you did think it was bad. I also understand the number relates to the grazing. I wasn't asking a question on this thread but rather offering the opening gambit in a sometimes tricky topic. Seems no-one else is interested!

So not true! I've fasted a lot and I always have bms during my fast. Your body is getting rid of the all stuff it's cleansing (blood cells, tumours - who knows what all - but it comes out as stools).
You just seldom have 6 in a day LOL
I love talking about bms. It's so important. People talk about what goes in but not what comes out. I figure it's pretty important to be aware of what's leaving and what is (perhaps) being left behind. LOL *image of home alone comes to mind... *

I think it's amazing how different we all are and how normal all these differents are for the most part.

I usually go 2 to 3 times a day. Transit is somewhere in the range of 15 to 20ish hours I'm guessing. That's one thing I always thought was odd about me. People that would talk about only going once a day or finding bits of stuff from 3 days ago. Sometimes I notice things from breakfast that night before I go to bed. Even when eating SAD I've almost always had good transit times and went at least twice a day. I used to wonder if something was wrong, now I'm happy to find out that it's probably been better for me. Stuff wasn't sitting in there long enough to cause major problems! I also noticed it's not as uh... messy or hard to go when I'm raw. We go through a lot less toilet paper when we are both eating raw!
Hehe, my SO likes the squat thing too and told me if we build or renovate a house some day we have to have a squat toilet. I see no reason not to have one of each!

Well, I broke down today and splurged the $74 for a bamboo squatty potty. No more having to climb up onto the toilet to squat. LOL

Okay, I admit I was wrong - I was thinking of people that never eat any food, and naturally assumed that going on a very long fast would mimic that. I've only juice fasted for a couple weeks at a time, but sometimes I stop having bms for a few days during that time.

I LOVE this thread!...lol...
I am a person who looks in the toilet. I want to know what is going on!
I have been raw now for almost 3 weeks and let me tell you there is a huge difference in the bathroom.
BM's on raw, for me at least, are almost effortless!
I have IBS in my past, so I know what it is to struggle.

I can only look while I am in work cos we have the tree bog at home and that is just a dark, dark pit! I have been particularly pleased to note that digestion is complete. The only marker I am getting is tomato seeds! I just ate some sweetcorn this morning so it will be interesting to see how well that digests. It digests better raw than cooked - that much I know!
I don't find the need to squat. It just comes naturally and without any effort; perfectly formed lol

ok so I had corn for breakfast this morning. I haven't had for for a while but though I ate it at about 7 am it reappeared at about 4pm! There was just a little that I hadn't chewed properly but I can work on that.

I had another watermelon yesterday morning. Watermelon consumed in the morning and in the toilet by evening.
I've also noticed that depending on what I've eaten that some BM's have no smell to them compared to what I recall in the SAD days.

I have to ask how you know. Is it because you eat the seeds as well? I only know about the sweetcorm because I didn't chew it all properly and so a few kernals were almost intact. Watermelon I wouldn't be able to distinguish as watermelon unless I ate the seeds too; it would digest beyond recognition.

Yeah it had seeds. Also when I eat a large quantity of it the BM's look red, which I suppose is common when eaten in large quantities or quickly.
