I have been holding off posting as I know there are so many posts about bloating, gas etc... but I am at my wits end and guess I am just looking for some support...
I have been raw vegan since the end of December 2011.. so about 6 months, I don't know percentage wise how raw I am but it is very high, being the only un-raw things I have are stevia, sometimes nutritional yeast, spices and herbal teas..
At first I went through the expected detox symptoms and after about 2 months things were great, digestion eased, I lost weight and generally felt amazing!
I will mention I ate cooked food 3 separate times over this 6 months - each about a month or two apart and was only ever cooked vegan food (rice/vegetables) and was for one meal each time..
At the time it didn't seem to upset me but all of a sudden (the last 2-3 weeks) I am experiencing EXTREME bloating - like my stomach is extended as if I was 6 months pregnant, so as you can imagine I have gas, quite bad and embarrassing .. and now I am experiencing diarrhea which makes it hard to attend work and it is really becoming a problem for my mental health as I just feel so exhausted and so tempted to go back to cooked foods...
I am 25 years old and was made aware of my gluten intolerance at the age of 17.. and have always had digestive problems since I was that age.. I was also lactose intolerant so have been avoiding wheat/gluten/dairy for many, many years.. I would have thought my digestion would get better over the years but it seems to have gotten worse... transitioning to raw foods seemed to heal my digestion a lot but now all of a sudden I am having this extreme bloating/gas/diarrhea issue and it is really getting me down.. it makes it hard to function and work and feel good about each day when I am constantly feeling so uncomfortable..
I will mention I had to have emergency contraceptive (morning after pill) a few weeks ago.. I am not currently on birth control and haven't been for over a year due to it never agreeing with me, it seems all these problems started after taking this pill... do you think it is possible that the large dose of hormones has really disrupted things in my body? I have also gained about 2kgs rapidly when nothing in my diet has changed, except for cutting out nuts due to them not digesting well (at least I thought this my be contributing to the bloat - yes I always soak nuts/seeds)
I will just list my average daily diet -
Breakfast - smoothie with spinach/banana sometimes green powder or cacao or bee pollen
Morning snacks - dates/bananas/ whatever fruit I feel like
Lunch - salad with avocado or guacamole w/ carrot sticks or celery sticks
Dinner - either similar salad to lunch or zucchini pasta w/ avo style sauce
or a lot of the time I mix carrots/spinach/carrot/raw nori/onion/dill or other herb in a food processor, mixed w/ coconut oil and eaten in lettuce cups
Dinner is always some kind of vegetable/greens combo with avocado thrown in
I cut nuts out 2 weeks ago but this hasn't seemed to make any difference..
I have increased my fruit intake but I was experiencing this bloating before the fruit intake - I thought it might help to eat more simple so I have just been mono eating fruit all day til late afternoon then eat some type of salad/vegetable dish...
Nothing seems to have helped and I don't want to go to the doctor again to spend $300 and have them tell me I shouldn't eat raw foods ...
I am beginning to wonder if some people with severe digestive issues shouldn't eat 100% raw?!
Any thoughts would really be appreciated..!
