Hey all, I am new to dehydrating and decided to dry out some tomatoes in my dehydrator today. I got a late start and do not think they will be done until 4 in the morning. Do i have to wake up and deal with them or, is there a way to postpone it until tomorrow through refrigeration or some other means after it is half-way done? I know I should have thought of this ahead of time but i only realized after I had already cut and de-seeded the tomatoes which I figured was a point of no return.
-Thanks for the potential help.

I have no clue what you just asked. So, they're done at 4 a.m? Uh, how are they half-way done? Let 'em dry until they're dry .... deseeded? Really? I've never done that. I slice, put 'em on the tray and let 'em go! What is the question here? What is there to deal with once they're dry?

just set them to dry and unless you live somewhere really humid I wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem with them sitting in the D until you get up in the morning.
With the tomatoes I dehydrate - there's no "over-dehydrating" them. Even if they went hours past when they were actually dehydrated.
I can't think of any recipes I use the deh. tomatoes in that I don't rehydrate them first (as in marinara-type sauces) - so let them dehydrate and don't worry about the time they're actually done. Just my 2¢ worth. *Ü*

If you have one of those timers that go on a lamp, attach it to the dehydrator and it will shut off when you would like. I am with those that say you can't over dehydrate but if they are very small you can.

Wow Rev! Angry much?
She's not angry. She doesn't understand the question. Which is fair enough because as it is written out, it doesn't make much sense!

The bigger question is, since we're all mirrors of each other, how it is YOU perceive what I wrote as coming from anger. No anger but there IS confusion.

Thankiss.... and, where's the OP to explain it?

The OP wants to know if his tomatoes will spoil if he turns off his dehydrator in the middle of dehydrating and leaves them until the next day. Should he put them in the refrigerator overnight, and then resume dehydrating them the next day?
Personally, I agree with the poster above who said to just leave them in the dehydrator until the next day. I don't think they would spoil.

Why would they take them out half way through? Just let the dehydrator run til the toms are dry - surely?

Just let the dehydrator run. It won't hurt if they dehydrate an extra few hours. They may even need more time than where ever you got the number from says. It really depends on how much humidity is in the air and how much water is in the tomatoes.
