Hi! I am 21 years old and am currently studying Health Sciences. I have been Vegan for a few weeks, and due to finding out I have an extremely uncomfortable sensitivity to soy, I have decided to go full tilt into the raw world!

Hello from the other end of Canada!

I've been raw foods only since January and it's like my digestion completely changed for the better, and I've lost weight. You brought up food sensitivities and I wonder if you've considered getting the IGg food allergy test done. I did back in March. (There was a week there that I had to go off raw foods for the test). It turns out that I'm allergic to some healthy foods which I had been eating a lot of since raw, like bananas (highly allergic), cranberries, brocolli and mushrooms. You're studying health sciences and so I wonder if you're learning a lot about nutrition and food allergies. Being raw may be very healthy BUT it may not be a guarantee that all raw food is good for the body.

You're sensitive to soy. Is that the oil and/or the nuts? And how does your body respond to it?

I see your quote there. Good thing I'm no longer a banana.

Ah the great Canucks :)

That is interesting, I have never considered getting the IGg food allergy test done.. though I find my body generally 'tells' me, quite angrily, what I am doing wrong. I will have to consider getting one though, or find where, as I have never thought about allergies such as those!

In my program we mostly study things such as restaurant inspection, diseases, and epidemiology. I have learned about severe allergies (anaphylactic), but mostly the legal/restaurant side.

I know i cannot eat soy ice cream, drink soy milk, or eat the nuts. I do not have any issues with oil though, oddly enough, and can eat tofu. I have read that when people have sensitivities to soy, they are generally okay with the oil though. When I do eat the previously mentioned foods, I get severe cramping, sweating, and (sorry for the TMI ;) ) foul gas. I also suffer from diarrhea when I consume soy milk, and have alot of inflammation! I can gain 7lbs + in one day after eating a soy product!! I learned the hard way.

Haha!! I don't think i'd be a banana.. perhaps a sunflower seed!

Newbie, I'd say you're lucky that your body is making it very clear which foods you have sensitivity to. The IGg test is for those foods that give no signs of a reaction. Those that do give signs have another test that I can't remember the name. Man you got quite the reaction to soy, and 7lbs in a day! Wow!

Yay for Canada! (I'm in the middle - prairie gal) =]
It's great that you will be educated in the benefits of raw food whilst taking your education! We need more people like you getting education from both the class room and the natural world!
I've had allergy tests done by a specialist - it was fine. Very informative.
Time after time I find that people in a raw lifestyle see their allergies altered or completely dissappearing along the way....you may find that you can have things change on you. (for the better)!!
The healthier your body is, the more it can narrow it's focus on what needs healing/attention.
