View Full Version : Day 23 juice fast and crushed by dr.
I am on day 23 of my juice fast and like a good girl I got a check up before I started and have been having my liver checked every 10 days. This is the email I just got from my doctor........
"Jamie,
You are becoming acidotic. You need to stop. Potassium, CO2, and ketones are all abnormal. It will correct itself with carbohydrates. I suggest you eat some bananas.
DC"
I don't understand. I am very healthy with no underlying problems. I know people who have gone 100 days or more. Granted I don't juice everyday and when I do it is usually once a day but water fasting is an accepted form of healing so I didn't think it would be a problem. Is there any way I can keep going? juice more? eat a banana and go back to fasting? I really really really don't want to stop :( And my dr. wasn't all that supportive to begin with hence the forum post. Does anyone else actually see a dr. when they fast?

What are you juicing? Is more variety possible? And why would just eating raw food in solid (or perhaps smoothie) form be so bad?

It will correct itself with carbohydrates.
I am erasing these comments. Please read post below.

This article may help you:

It appears that this is common in juice fasters/feasters.
If you can see a naturopathic doctor, I would.

Walnutty ---What a great article! Thanks!
I just got done doing an approximately six week juice feasfastt.....well, sort of...about three weeks in, I ate a little bit..took a little break for a weekend ----but I must say, I definitely lost some muscle mass. I've fasted before and didn't notice so much, but this time the difference was that I did minimal sugar, whereas in the past, I would incoprorate apples, or carrots or beets, this time I did not ---or I did very little. I felt it was important to get some of the good stuff in carrots, for example so would throw one in every now and then.
Sorry to ramble, but my point is, that article mentions that you will not get so much muscle loss if you do have some sugar/carbs and my most recent experience seems to agree with this.
One thing I have noticed though, is some muscle cramping, which I'm thinking is my body's signal it needs more minerals, but heck, I was literally drinking wheatgrass by the glass, not the ounce. So I added more salt and some vit E, as well as some homemade flax oil and I think? it helped. Just about this time, a friend turned me on to checking my glucose with a free glucose monitor she got at CVS. Son-of-a-gun, no real carbs/sugar for all that time and yet my fasting glucose was high---99.
So I've cut back on the flax, but am doing a little bit....

Abnormal High or Low. He needs to specify. Ketones are a sign that your body is metabolising its own body fat. CO2 comes from breathing. If your potasium is low, drink some orange juice. (I am assuming since he said eat a banana)
