We are clearing the land very slowly and so actual planting is well behind.

There is a road the other side of that fence and to the right hand edge is the river - which came rather high during the spring rain we had!

I need to get compost this week and then I can start in earnest but I really need some membrane to keep the existing weeds in check.

A friend has bees and so we may get some hives here too which would be very exciting.

I have some lettuces and some Jerusalem artichokes in pots for now but this weekend the weather will be good and we can make inroads.

We have mains water (standpipe only at the wrong end of the land!) but no electricity and no sewerage but we have a composting toilet and a will to make this work. We are hoping to get some solar and possible wind power to run small things like a few lights and maybe a shower and a radio. We cook and wash clothes over a wood fire and also have a small camping stove. It's lovely while the weather is nice!

What a lovely adventure you are on! You must be fairly young and/or healthy to think of living with no electricity [aren't the rest of us spoiled] etc. When you say you cook & wash over a "wood fire", do you mean a wood burning stove in the house?

I'm 41 and at the moment we cook etc on an open fire outside because there is not much inside; just a tiny old caravan where we sleep. we have a woodstove lined up for when we have an inside but not sure when that will be.

It looks so peaceful. Enjoy that beautiful landscape.
I am sure your garden will come along just nicely.

It's actually quite noisy here but very pleasant. Organic compost arriving next Tuesday.
