I was just browsing the internet and stumbled across this site.

I have been feeding my dogs a raw diet for three months now. Though out all of my research and learning and being so picky as to what they get, I have started to look at my own health in the same way. My rats also eat a raw diet.

I am far from healthy, and I want that to change. I am 19 years old. I have 170lbs to loose. I want to live healthy and change my ways. My boyfriend and I has started this by cutting out almost all processed foods which helped, But I would like to take it one step further. I am hoping to learn a lot about human nutrition. I am also interesting in the vegetarian life style. I don't know much at all about the human dietary needs. I've been told so many different things I don't know what to do.

Some of the issues I have are:
Migraines
Crippling stomach pains
Not being able to eat for days on end
Not being able to keep food down for long after I eat.
I am vitamin D3 deficient.
I have high cholesterol
I have an iron deficiency
I hate taking medications. I never remember to take pills.
I would be open to the idea of supplements

Look forward to hearing ideas and learning!

Welcome!

It's hard to figure out the human nutrition thing. Every body is different and has different needs. I don't put much weight into what the government tells us we should be eating. I think the key thing is just experiment. Some people are fine with lots of fat, some people have to really restrict fats. Some people eat lots of fruit, while others can't. You have to find your own balance. That said, I do trust the research done that tells us heating our food to high temps that we do kills all the important enzymes that help us actually live.

It's great that you have your boyfriend's support. It makes it a lot easier than doing it alone or living with someone that is eating the standard diet. My SO is with me on this journey too. I have a lot of weight to lose as well. Eating raw will get you there. It may not be as fast, but it will certainly be much healthier in the long run. :)

Btw, you aren't using any artificial sweeteners are you? My SO had horrible migraine problems until we quit drinking diet soda. After we quit just over 2 years ago, she's rarely had one. Maybe once or twice, that's it. I believe your stomach pains will straighten out on raw though it may take a little while. You'll have to go through detox and you may need to be gentle on yourself for a while. I'm sure someone else could help more with this issue as I've never had to deal with that. Eating leafy greens, including spinach, should help with your iron problem. I've been anemic for years do to having a really bad menstrual cycle. I think I finally have it under control now though, I'll see when I get my blood tests back from my doctor visit last week.

I'm glad that you found us! Hang around, there is lots of advice and friendly people here.
