View Full Version : Ringworm: Juice cleanse or sugar cut-back?

(I have another thread going about this - sort of. I made a new thread because I wasn't sure if anyone would see this question if I posted it on the same thread because it's a different question and not exactly what I asked in the beginning.)
I apparently have ringworm on my legs and arms that has been there since February. Nothing I have done seems to help. For a few days now, I've been limiting my sugar intake (including fruits) and the first 2 days went fine, other than feeling a little bit lightheaded. The last couple of days, I've felt very nauseous with off-and-on bad headaches that kind of makes me feel like I'm going to throw up, but not really, and I don't. I've been laying on the couch for the past day. Today I feel quite a bit better since I had some fruit last night and this morning for breakfast.
My question is, for cleansing out the ringworm (and possibly candida), would it be better to go on a juice/smoothie cleanse for a day or 2 and see if it helps at all, or continue cutting out the sugar and feel crappy off and on? Cutting out the sugar seems to be making the ringworm dry up a LOT (and looks a lot better), but I'm not sure I can handle it much more.

I don't think 2 days would be enough. I had a small patch of ringworm and I used prescribed medication because it's tough to get rid of. If you want to stay all natural why not try applying a paste made from equal parts honey and cinnamon. I only heard about this treatment recently and have not tried it myself but it might work.

Have you tried neem oil yet?

Ringworm are like night mares. You need to have a good prescription and follow it accordingly to get rid of them.

prescriptions work but they are not the only solution.

Essential oils would be a fantastic option. Applied right on the site. Lavender, or tea tree oil or any other anti fungal essential oil.
I like Young Living oils, even though I dislike their "almost" pyramid-like multi-level marketing.
I agree with cutting back on the sugar too...going anti-candida with your diet.

Raw Apple Cider Vinager also kills the fungus.

How come being on a raw diet doesn't naturally get rid of any funguses or yeast overgrowths and things like that? I hope that doesn't sound rude, it just seems kind of odd to me that eating right cures basically everything except for fungus and yeast.

Maybe it's because fungi and yeasts are natural too?

Maybe... I would think your body would naturally know what should and shouldn't be there, but i have no idea.
I was also thinking that maybe it has something to do with your body prioritizing what needs to be healed first? Maybe when someone has a fungus, their body goes, "Let's see... I have this fungus that needs to be taken care of, but there's also a weakness with my kidney, so I'm going to fix that first since it's more important." or something like that. WHen I went to a naturopath (they're the ones that do the muscle testing, right?), she always gave me supplements based on what needed priority. Maybe your body does the same thing on its own, and that's why people feel like it takes a really long time to go away?

Please see a doctor. You have had it for almost 3 months with self treatment and it has not gotten better and your symptoms do not sound good. The candida/anti-fungal diet is fine as support but it in and of itself will not cure the ringworm. Give yourself some relief and get a prescription. You need a consistent course of action. What I did and it sounds like what you may be doing is trying a thing, then another, then another. I have the fungus and I went to the doctor and started the candida diet yesterday http://www.thecandidadiet.com/.
I came upon your post as I was googling "juicing for ringworm." I have had ringworm almost a month now. My sister urged me when she saw the pictures I took of it getting progressively worse not better. It began as a scaly spot and I started using tea tree & lavender oil but I covered it with a bandage which is a no-no. It grew and became wet and oozing. I got some gentian violet (which doe not contain gentian or violet, It is a chemical). It started to dry out a bit after a few days of using spray powder anti-fungal from the drug store. There were still some wet and oozing spots. But red, hot, itching welts and swelling began to occur around the site. Where I had peeled the bandages away my skin came off some, and the fungus spread there.
It is on my thigh and I don't want it to spread to precious areas. I went to the doctor yesterday and she said the red swelling is a bacterial infection. I got a prescription cream and antibiotic. I have to start school the first week on June and I cannot deal with this. I have to walk around my house partially clothed because it cannot be covered, which means no leaving the house unless I want to cover it and give it a hospitable environment and interfere with the cream. Ringworm is virulent, uncomfortable, emotionally distressing, and highly contagious. Natural cures have their place but sometimes you need medicine.
This fungus is making me miserable. If you have one spot you can try treating it naturally but if you have no results and it spreads to more spots after 1-2 weeks you need medical attention.

The ringworm could be a symptom of another, underlying problem such as poor immune etc. If this is the case then finding out what the underlying issue is would really help.

I think that's another reason to go to a doctor. Get a full physical exam with blood work. I know my immune system was low due to binging on junk food and alcohol then I went to stay at a family member house that was not particularly clean and got the ringworm. It's also the reason I'm changing my diet to the candida diet.

I actually didn't even realize what it was until I'd had it for almost a month, which by then it had spread somewhat. I also did the bandaid thing - eek! It actually has gotten TONS better since cutting back on the sugar, and had been looking a little better since I did a detox thing from the health food store. (one of the boxed cleanses) What I read online was that the candida diet can make you have flu-like symptoms for a few days, so I'm not sure if that's what all of that was? I feel totally normal today except for a slight headache. I think being in the sun for the past few days may have helped some, but I'm not sure. It hasn't been warm enough to be in the sun here since probably September, so that may or may not have helped. I've also been taking a whole foods vitamin, but I saw somewhere that taking vitamins can make the candida symptoms worse, so I'm not sure if I should be taking that or not.
Ever since I started cutting back on the sugar, all of the ringworm spots look considerably better and very dry and flaky looking, but not really red anymore. I try to avoid typical western doctors at all costs, so I plan to stick to try to stick to natural remedies as long as I can. I used to eat 2+ bananas and probably 1/2 to a cup of dried fruit every day, so I feel like even just cutting out the bana and dried fruits would probably do me good, and hopefully make it go away.
Are there any other foods that are good antifungals besides garlic?
By the way, is that something that a naturopath could diagnose? What the real issue is, I mean?

From this website http://www.naturallythriving.com/basics/cfd13.php
Coconut oil, Garlic, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Oil of Oregano, Clove Oil, Olive Leaf Extract, Pau d' Arco
I was looking into a Doctorate in Naturopathic medicine at the SCNM and they get trained as medical students do so I would say an N.D. from an accredited school could test and diagnose or someone with complimentary medicine. I say find some Naturopaths, call them up and tell them what you would like checked and they will probably let you know if they have that capability.
Can you shower or take a bath with the body ringworm? I have been washing very carefully at the sink and wash the site separately. I was afraid having all that warm water washing down my body may infect other parts. My doctor said don't baby it to much but...

I was going to suggest oil of oregano also. And you might want to look into colloidal silver of 20-30 ppm. I've used silver for many years. You can even use it in your eyes if you get pink eye, which is the first thing I used it for. I still use it in my eyes if I have itchy eyes or any other eye problem. We also use it on any scrapes, scratches or surface cuts. I don't usually take it internally but when I get a bad sinus infection I use silver like nose spray and the infection is gone within 24 hours. Some people take it daily internally but I believe it also kills all healthy bacteria in your digestive system and is counterproductive.

I've never heard of that (the silver). Is that something a typical health food store would carry, or do you have to find it online somewhere? Do you think that would help a constantly sticky eye in addition to the ringworm? (whole separate issue)
My ringworm is on both of my arms - though one is almost entirely gone - and both legs, but only a little bit on one. It's mostly just a bunch of small spots that are healing. I've never showered any different, but since it started on my leg, I don't think the water running over it would make it spread...I try not to touch any of the spots with my towel, but that's really hard to do with my arms. I've also been scrubbing it gently with a loofa sponge, which actually seems to help a lot. I guess it must be scraping away some of the fungus or something?
Edit: I just saw something online that said to put coconut oil on it 4 to 7 times a day, because apparently it suffocates it? If that helps, do I still need to stay off of the sugar, or can I go back to eating fruit and just do the coconut oil?
