Here is a picture of my make shift double boiler. All I have done is take a beverage/soup warmer and placed a glass measuring cup inside so that no contents has direct contact with the actual heating element. I use 2 thermometers to ensure I do not exceed enzyme destroying temperatures. This is a good system, because on the lowest settings, even if I forget about it, it will never get too warm.
I went ahead and tried Alissa's Chili warm instead of room temperature and I liked it better warm. It never hurts to have the option to warm something. I would not recommend a conventional stove top though. Actually you could warm something in the soup warmer, but I just converted it to a double boiler to make it more "raw proof" if you will.

Please accept my apology for being a bit slow this morning. I am not sure how you put your double boiler together. Is it possible for you to take another picture of your makeshift apparatus taken apart? That way, it will be easier for me and other curious members to see how you put your creativity to work. Pretty please? Thanks!

Here is a picture with the lid lifted. As you can see, there is a glass measuring cup sitting inside it. The purpose of the measuring cup is to keep your contents (soup, etc.) from coming in direct contact with the heating element. The arm of the glass measuring cup hangs outside of the water/soup warmer so it can be easily removed. I end up eating my raw soups out of the glass measuring cup some of the time if it is just me eating.
You can actually just pour your raw soup directly into the water/soup warmer. I just feel by converting it into a double boiler, it makes it better for me because I don't want to take any chance of my soup heating past a certain temperature.
