View Full Version : Turmeric Facial Mask

I did my first homemade, Turmeric facial mask last night and WHOA. 20 minutes later my skin looked as bright as if I'd just had an expensive facial at the salon.
:wow:
My mother originally told me about this, and it turns out Turmeric has been used for hundreds of years in Southeast Asia for its skin healing and anti-oxidant properties.
Today, my skin is noticably more even, and my pores are tighter/smaller (always a plus for someone with oily skin!)
I made the mask myself with store-bought turmeric (though that is not recommended because it can stain the skin. I took the risk because my skin is yellow-toned anyway) and raw honey. Let is sit on my face for 30 minutes, then cleansed with warm water.
Anyone else ever tried this?

No, but I'm going to. What other turmeric can you get other than store bought? It's all yellow, no?

I can get either fresh or dried. Both shop bought.

Does Snooki do these?

streetsurfer, HAH! I'm sure she doesn't - if Turmeric was behind the color of her skin, I'd stay well away from it!
Revvell, apparently you're supposed to use Katsuri Tumeric:
Buying and using turmeric for skincare
Regular turmeric can temporarily stain the skin. Kasturi turmeric (curcuma aromatica) is non-staining and has the same properties for clearing acne, inhibiting facial hair growth and brightening the complexion. It is not edible and therefore not used for cooking and should only be used externally. It may be difficult to find in some areas of the US. You can look for kasturi turmeric in Indian stores.

Excellent! Thank you! We've got Indian food stores here.
I have a question -- did it turn your skin yellow or orange? I ask because I brushed my teeth with it a couple times (supposed to be good for whitening teeth) and it dyed my tooth brush bristles...

DebB, I did notice a faint orange tinge, but it came off with a few passes of a washcloth. I only left the mask on for 30 minutes though, and my skin is more yellow-based anyway.
The Katsuri Turmeric is non-staining, but the other, more widely available one can definitely stain.

Thanks for your reply LexieW. I'd like to give this a try and will look for the Katsuri Turmeric. Thanks for sharing this information! *Ü*

Thank you so much. My daughter and I will be trying this. I have a bag of tumeric from the green market.

This is good to info. I've been taking turmeric capsules and didn't know it can be used for skin too :)
