I am a brand new newbie. Haven't even started yet.. But planning to start adding in more and more raw foods til I work up to mostly raw. We do not make a lot of money.. I have checked out some books from the library and would like to start trying stuff out.

We would not be able to afford a Vitamix or Excaliber for a LONGGGG time and I want to make things now. We already have a Nuwave oven. Which you can use as a dehydrator. According to the manual power level 1 is 125 degrees. Of course we also have an oven which I have heard you can use as well.

Do you think the Nuwave or the oven could be used as a work around for now? Even if its not 100% raw it will be a HUGE improvement over Mcdonalds and Pizza Hut. ;)

Also we have a regular blender that will have to do for the meantime. I will try to find a reasonable priced juicer though because I really want to start juicing as well.

Anyway.. all a bit overwhelming and would love some tips. Thanks so much!

I'm a big believer in doing the best we can with what we have or what's available! You're correct - even if it's not "technically" 100% raw - it's better than nothing. You can also try to use something (a thin utensil, or perhaps fashion a little something out of aluminum foil) to keep the Nuwave's door propped open a tad, that will help lower its temperature.

You might like to check thrift stores too - I bought a 4 tray Excalibur dehydrator, still in the box with all the accessories for just over $10.00. I recently bought a Samson juicer (it looks like it's been used twice, mint condition) for $6.00! This juicer is over $200!

Just go ahead and jump on in! You'll do just fine. :)

Thanks so much for the reply. I am excited to get started. Was happy to see that even in GA the library had books on Raw. :)
Oh I also was wrong about the temps on the Nuwave.. Power level 1 is 106 degrees and power level 2 is 116. So I should be good for right now. :)

Power Levels 1 & 2 are perfect amyece! You are good to go!

Are you familiar with meetup.com? You may like to check it for your area and see if there are Raw Food Meetup groups already going.

Do they have a set of racks for the NuWave that allows you to fill the chamber, or are you just using one surface? Thanks kindly.

There are only 2 trays for the nuwave. But it is a start. :)
