Does anyone have a recipe for raw veg smoothies that mimics V8?
Thanks
Hi ~ I haven't tried this one, but had it in my files:
Homemade V-8 - RoseGreen
makes enough for 2-3 servings
3 small tomatos
1 green pepper
1 lrg carrot
1 cucumber
1/2 avocado
1/2-1 cp water
1 tsp dehydrated onion flakes
handful of chives
10 basil leaves
1 tsp natural sea salt, we also like the Himalayan salt - adjust it to your taste
1/2 tsp kelp
fresh cracked pepper to taste

According to Wiki V-8 is 87% tomato juice plus beets, celery, carrots, lettuce, parsley, watercress, and spinach.
That should get you close and the fresh squeezed stuff should taste better. Get creative and throw in a little of something else you like. I'm sure you will do fine!

i love fresh tomato juice , just simple recipe with garlic clove and parsley . but recipe is not why im posting , point i want to make is i tried every way of making tomato juice from blender to champion to omega 8006 to several centrifugals , everything but a twin gear like a greenstar . and every method ruins the taste of tomatoes to me , makes them frothy and not real tomato tasting . and from making alot of tomato juice on juice fasts ive come to use method of chopping tomatos up , along with parsley . putting in big 4 gallon pot with water to make a soup type mix . then using garlic press to add garlic . then i take a manual potato masher and really mash up the tomatoes into a watery salsa type texture . i bought a big heavy duty manual potato masher just for this task . then i line a big metal colander with 5 gallon paint filter bag and pour in the mixture with this colander setting on top of another big 4 gallon pot . i then fold over the sides / top of paint filter bag over the tomato mash and use the manual masher to squeeze the juice outta filter bag and into pot below . yes a work intensive task , BUT it makes the best juice by far . if a person had one of the omega 8000 series they could use it to turn the tomato mix into this mash which they would then strain thru the paint filter bag , but on its own the omega 8000s dont juice soft stuff like tomatos but rather turn them into a salsa texture . and theyd be GREAT for making salsa , but not for juicing tomato . my next venture is buying a used squeezo food strainer to use to turn the tomatos into a sauce which i then paint filter bag as i LOVE doing tomato juice fasts . ecspecially with fall tomato crop to super load up on vitamin c before winter bug season

MR, have you ever thought of trying a chinois (http://www.amazon.com/Mirro-9605000A-Canning-Accessories-Wooden/dp/B00002N5ZQ/ref=pd_sim_k_51)? I remember helping my mom can tomatoes and I was in charge of "squishing" the tomatoes through one exactly like in the link. The tomatoes were of course cooked but I imagine if you'd mash or chop them up then run them through something like this it might be easier and produce a good juice as well?
I plan on trying this once I have the money, and tomatoes are in season of course.

Your post brings back fond memories for me too SunshineMN ~ I've still got my Mom's (and everything to can with) in our basement. I loved canning. We would set that inside our bread riser (http://www.ebay.com/itm/antique-Huge-1800s-TIN-DOUGH-RISER-arts-crafts-Hearth-Bread-Cooking-Tool-metal-/350562319739?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519f247d7b)and go to town. Remember getting splattered by the scalding tomatoes using this? (whooh)

They are the best for tomatoes and not bad for apple sauce.

Thank you for the replies.
MR - you bring up a point about the tomatoes getting frothy. I tried making V8 last week for the first time (tasted a little bland) and it had a lot of foam/froth to it, I use a Vita Mix. You got me thinking it was the tomato.
Also the recipe I had called for garlic and I forgot to but it in, that may take the "bland" out of it.

Deb - That recipe looks pretty good. There are a couple things in there that I didn't have in my first go.

LOL Deb, yes! Until I got smart and used to lower the ladle into the tomatoes before tipping it so there was no slopping going on. I loved the homemade canned veggies, but as a kid I hated to process all those piles and piles of string beens, tomatoes, corn, onions. I think learning all that cooking stuff from my mom has allowed me to come up with interesting raw food ideas.
Thanks for the post about the V8 juice. I used to love it especially with toast. I think it would go great with some dehydrated crackers! Can't wait for ripe tomatoes, my favorite summertime veggie. :D

I have this item on my wish list.
It seems to be a great tool for making tomato and berry (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries etc…) juice.
I am wondering if it will make juice from any soft fruit or veggies like very ripe mangos or cucumbers.
