Hi All,
My first new thread. I just started DAY 5 of a water fast - well I say water, but days 2-4 I allowed a small can of V8 juice with my supplements to help with absorption. Nothing worse than vitamin indigestion on an empty stomach :no:.
This is the longest I have made it into a fast and I'm praying for God to give me the motivation to continue day by day...
I'm drinking the Culligan filtered water from Walmart with lemon and ever so slight amount of coffee, less than half a cup, each day before going for a walk - my taste for it is dissipating.
Which brings me to my topic. Fasting pain reduction techniques.
They say when you fast you go into survival mode and you switch on creativity centers - so what creative methods have you invented to stave off the various forms of pain? And there are many, from emotional turbulence to psychological compulsions to eat, to weakness, insomnia, et al.
My contribution is a little technique I learned a while back listening to an Anthony Robbins lecture. He talking about therapeutic deep breathing combined with walking. Studies showed that deep breathing alone stimulates the lymphatic system - but he a study showing that walking combined with deep breathing stimulates it quite a bit more, around 20 times more if I remember correctly... doing it during a fast really does wonders.
Deep breathing while walking -- take some normal deep breaths for a few minutes then take the deepest breath you can and hold it as long as you can until you can't hold it anymore then exhale as slowly as possible. Repeat this technique. At first you won't be able to hold your breath very long or exhale slowly... you will quickly be able to take deeper breaths, hold it longer and exhale more slowly.
This is for stimulating you lymphatic/immune system to the max. Try it.
And this really helps with low energy, pain and anxiety during a fast... the aerobics gets the ketones circulating and the lymphatic work accelerates the movement of waste. Typically when I do this the energy is good for about 3 miles of walking then I get utterly exhausted. After the exhaustion lifts you will feel pretty good.
What techniques do you utilize?
