Green sorbets! They keep me raw when nothing sounds good. Who doesn't like ice cream? I just pop a frozen banana, two or three pitted medjool dates, 2 cups or so of frozen fruit of choice, any additions such a cacao or something, then a big handful of greens. Vitamix it until smooth and call it a meal!

Wow. I am really glad I found this site! I am working my way towards becoming Vegan. I have no clue about this life style besides eating whole raw fruits/veggies, but the things you guys are talking about sound scrumptious! I can't wait to get more indepth and learn more.
Right now my go to food is grapefruit and oranges. I peel them and toss them in a bowl, just amazing and it always fills my want for something sweet.

Welcome to the site! You'll find a lot of really good information here and some very nice people. :)
My mom used to make a mix of grapefruit, oranges, pineapple and mandarin oranges when I was young. The pineapple and mandarins were canned though and she used the syrup as well. We buy at least one pineapple a week here, but oranges are still my favorite go to food. I can eat 5 or 6 oranges a day easily when we have them. I also eat a lot of bananas just slightly green or lightly freckled with brown spots. I don't like mushy food for the most part! I've been having a craving for fruit salad though. I might throw in some sliced bananas and some raw shredded coconut also.
Fresh, perfectly ripe, raw tomatoes.
In the summer I agree. It's a toss up between vine ripened tomatoes and sweet corn. Tomatoes in the winter here are just awful. I'm looking forward to being able to grow some cherry tomatoes in the house next winter for my salad though. :)

apple smeared with chunky raw almond butter ..........always good.
My favorite go to food = fruit.
For a salad, I have this several times a week: thinly sliced: baby cucumbers, sweet onion, Campari tomatoes (from Costco - so delicious), cubed avocado, salt & pepper. So tasty!

Hippie, I could eat 2-3lbs of tomatoes a day easily.I don't understand meal replacements. The whole concept is beyond understanding for me unless someone has an illness that makes eating a problem.

Since most meal replacements have very little nutritional value compared to actual food, I would think that having an illness would be the most important time NOT to take meal replacements as opposed to real food; In severe cases where people are unable to eat solid food then juicing would definitely be the best option.
I agree with you that it's absurd to take meal replacements as opposed to actual food, however.

I was thinking of the illnesses that prevent chewing or swallowing specifically. Meal replacements otherwise seem just plain loopy. why is highly processed non-food so appealing? As I said, baffling but I guess that it floats some boats.

I think that people like to think that they can eat "highly processed non-food", and then by taking more highly processed non-food that advertises that it supplies everything you require nutritionally (which would be impossible even if it was real food) they will have optimal nutrition. This is probably caused by both people's lack of nutrition and their laziness in general - which is caused by not being in good health.

I don't use a dehydrator coz I think it turns real food into less than brilliant food but I know a lot of people find them helpful on raw.

It's called meal 53. I have been using it for over a year every day. It has fruit, veggies, sea plants and grains. If you Google it you can find it. It is an amazing product that is 100 percent raw and has great nutritional value. I love it.

I too have used meal replacements on occasion - it really helps when you're traveling and have difficulty finding good quality produce.

I found it, but it is extremely expensive!
I use Vitamineral Green and it gives me lots of energy. I would love to see a comparison between the two!

They also seem quite happy to recommend that it is mixed with dairy which makes me question their commitment to raw.

I am not sure about dairy as I don't mix with dairy why would I do that. I mix it with juice. In terms of price if you break it down its less then 3 dollars a package. For me I have a baby and I don't have time to make meals and blend and dehydrate. I mix a shake and I get everything. This is just one meal a day. Everything in this product is raw and natural.

Okay well there isn't too much to understand. When I started eating raw I found it difficult and I know that I am not the only one that felt that way or feels that way. When I found meal 53 I was so happy because I was able to have my one sometimes two meals a day of 100 percent raw foods conveniently. There are days I don't have time to shop and days I don't have time to prepare meals so this suited me and still does. My husband too loves it in the morning before heading to work. I also took it through my pregnancy which was so easy and I have the most healthy son. I believe so much in raw food and have learned so much from this forum and I wanted to share what I found with people that identify with me.

These products are so processed. It seems a shame to rely on them so heavily when their is real food out there. I don't use a dehydrator and rarely spend more than 5minutes preparing a raw meal. I also see this type of situation with a lot of women with family. They'll take care of the family and think nothing of spending a long time making them a nice meal but they don't treat themselves with the same respect.
Bobbo

There is nothing processed about this stuff. I am treating myself to a healthy meal.
Bobbo
05-24-2012, 02:26 PM
And to clarify if I take something in its natural form, grind it down and freeze dry it that is not processed food,it has gone through a process to maintain it as living food. That is not processed food. Is a chopped onion a processed food or is it a food that has gone through a process. In response to not cooking meals, this is just one meal i take on the run during my day. Give me a break. By the way maybe you should try it you might learn something. You don't know everything.
MysticTree

The meal replacement is a processed food. A chopped onion is a chopped onion. Teeth further chop the onion so cutting it to start with is not processing. What you are eating is better than a big mac for sure but to eat it for more than one meal once in a while is not to my way of thinking sensible. Your thinking is obviously different and I'm not having a go at you. Disagreement is possible without having a go.

I tend to eat quite a bit of salsa/guacamole on lettuce wraps. I really like the salsa and avacado to be chunky too.
2 bundles of cilantro choppped up
2 ripe tomato's or one if you have a HUGE tomato
2 avacado's cut into small cubes instead of mashed.
2 tomatillo's diced
1/4 of a purple onion minced
juice of a lime
spices and salt to flavor...... I like paprika, coriandor, and chilli powder.
Then make some spicy almonds with cayenne, paprika, and chilli powder. Chop em up into smaller pieces. Take two romaine lettuce leaves and stack em onto one another, lay down a little bit of the spicy almonds, then put some of the salsa/guac on top. and fold the green leafy ends/tops up as if folding a taco end and eat from the bottom of the leaf up......

i've been pretty obsessed with soaked oat groats blended with a banana and raw hemp hearts, and topped with some berries. I've had this for breakfast for the past 3 days, lol.
Also what I LOVE is those big portobello mushroom caps filled with homemade guacamole (half an avocado, a little olive oil, a little chopped onion, like half a garlic clove, and some hemp hearts).
