Hello!. I am new to the group as well as the raw food lifestyle. I started with the idea of doing a temporary all raw detox diet, but everything I have reading and feeling has made me decide a few things, one- to return to
vegetarianism: I was a veggie for many years, then gave it up, and now I'm going back. And two, to continue a mostly raw lifestyle after my all-raw detox period ends.
I am from the U.S., but living in Mexico City. THere are a few things about Mexico that make a raw lifestyle easy, and a few that make it hard. The warm climate is ideal for raw eating, as well as the super-abundance of
local, inexpensive fresh fruits and veggies, which make up my entire diet right now. What's hard is this: I have no juicer, no dehydrater and no budget to get them, should I even find them here. The juicer is no big deal, as I do have a good blender, and what I can't put in there I eat whole. But the dehydrater, and other things, like raw nuts, or nut milks, simply dont exist here. Mexican health food stores dont sell health food, only herbal
medicine, and certainly we dont have Whole Foods, which means no access to all those wonderful things like wheat grass, almond milk, dried organic fruits, etc. Also, internet orders are out of the question. The mail system is far too slow and unreliable and most places dont even ship to Mexico.
So, what I am wondering is this: IS there a way to work with cooked /dried nuts to make healther, more raw-like? Can I sprout cooked almonds? ANd what about other non-animal milks / milk substitutes? ALso, Can I dry things in the sun, and if so, what is the best way to do that? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks! Happy to be here.
