Are there any decent water filters available that are not overly expensive and do not crack easily and will last. I had a Pur but the housing
had cracked probably due to cheap materials under water pressure and did not last that long.
That remove chlorine, lead, etc. I just want to clean up some of the contaminants for a fish tank, giving to the birds and the cats
outside some decent water to drink and perhaps rinsing some vegetables off. Personally I drink distilled water and would get expensive
giving it to all the birds and stray cats that drink out of the bird bath that shows up in the back yard. Any recommendations?

Thank You,
Tim

Can't. Help you with your question but distilled isn't good for you I understand.

To distill or not to distill is a matter of choice and there are as many in favour of it as against.

Depends on what not overly expensive means to you. We purchased an RO-45 from APEC (http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/ro-45-detail.htm) in January. Our water tests at 5ppm now most of the time. The water tastes great compared to our city water. Often our city water smells like rotting eggs to me when we turn the tap on, it really sucks. The filters are only $40 a year so we feel it was well worth the investment. The only thing is we wish we would have gotten the bigger storage tank with it when we purchased it. Rinsing sprouts sometimes runs us out of water and we have to wait an hour to use more. But still way worth it compared to putting up with flouride and chlorine from the tap. When we start growing inside we'll have to invest in the bigger tank.

We all talk about organic produce but I feel that clean water is far more important. We want to have no toxins on our food but tolerate them in our water. Not for me. I will not tolerate them and make it a priority to remove them.
