Hi All. I am from NC and I have a daughter who is four and a son who is eight months old. My daughter has terrible nut and outdoor allergies. I am interested in finding out how raw foods can help her. Also, I am currently breastfeeding. After weening my little one, I want to do a detox of some kind but don't have a clue where to start. I understand that cleaning one system at a time can be beneficial. Right now, I drink lemon and ginger tea with mint from my garden in the AM, so I have been able to eliminate coffee from my diet. At mid morning, I like to have some sort of green smoothie which I am on day two of doing that, and I love it! I am feeling more vital already. I don't know if I want to go completely raw yet. I guess I will just see if I can grow into it! Thanks to anyone who may have some interesting posts about these things.:cheer:

Always do a colon cleanse first, because otherwise it's like flushing a clogged toilet...the toxins just re-enter your bloodstream. Guaranteed to make you feel like crap. *smile*
After the colon cleanse, the next one you should do is the liver, then it's really your choice what to do next. The seven main cleanses are
1. Colon
2. Liver/gallbladder
3. Kidney/bladder
4. Heavy Metal
5. Parasite
6. Candida
7. Full body/lymphatic
For cleaning the colon, enemas and colon hydrotherapy (far more effective out of the two) are also very effective, and after the colon is cleaner you can incorporate garlic or coffee enemas to help detox your liver.
As for your daughter, allergies are a sign of an overburdened/hindered immune system and body in general, so going raw will help her. It may not alleviate the problem, but if you need to you can have her do detoxes too once she is older, and that should clear up the problem. Did she get vaccinated (major cause of allergies)? Antibiotics also contribute and should be avoided if possible.
If you can, you should be breastfeeding your 8 month old son. It makes a HUGE difference to a child's health and has a lasting impact for their entire life - or rather, formula feeding has a lasting (and very negative) impact on a child for the rest of their life.
Hope that helps and I'll answer any other questions you have too. Good luck on raw!
What does your diet look like on a day-to-day basis?

Hi and Thanks!
Yes, I am still breastfeeding Jared on demand at the breast. I make his baby food too. It tastes sooo much better than jar.
Yes, my little girl was immunized, but I don't get flu vaccinations or any of that crap, and I breastfed her for a year, but had to pump due to working 40 hours a week.. Her problems are pretty severe. Tonight I made avocado pudding and Elaina started itching in the roof of her mouth and she felt she was having a reaction. I had to dose her with benedryl. I found a homeopathic remedy for her dust mite and grass/outdoor allergies. It is called Claritose (homeopathic). No side effects that I can tell, and she is doing very well on it. It's almost like she is cured sometimes. The first ingredient in it is wild onion, go figure.
My little boy is due for shots tomorrow, and I hate it everytime. I was told by his pediatrician that I have to immunize him.
Also, my diet today was orange ginger green tea with mint for breakfast. Mid morning 1 egg. For Lunch made a smoothie of grapes, mango, kale, spring mix, spinich. Late afternoon I had tuna with spring mix and rye bread, celery and onion. Snacks were 1 cup avocado chocolate pudding and small glass of coconut milk. I would like to eat healthy every day and in the last two days started making green smoothies and trying to cut out sugar and caffeine. Some mornings I will have kefir smoothies with berries for mid morning food. Only thing is, the kefir is made with cows milk. My mom makes it. I would like to try to ferment it in coconut milk or hemp milk (no nut milks around here because Elaina is deathly allergic to nuts). I believe you when you say vaccines may be the cause. There's too many kids coming up with nut allergies.
I just want to feel better and feel like I am the best mom I can be. I just need the knowledge, and I will apply it.
Thanks for responding!

In most places you can find a vaccine exemption form online if you google it. According to what I found, you can only exempt your children in NC if you claim it is because of religious beliefs. Or at least, you can say that's it's for religious beliefs. *grin*
"If the bona fide religious beliefs of an adult or the parent, guardian or person in loco parentis of a child are contrary to the immunization requirements, the adult or the child shall be exempt from the requirements. Upon submission of a written statement of the bona fide religious beliefs and opposition to the immunization requirements, the person may attend the college, university, school or facility without presenting a certificate of immunization. No child shall be exempt from the requirements of immunizations for the case of a personal belief or philosophy of a parent or guardian not founded upon a religious belief."
It doesn't seem like you're eating that much, but if you feel good then that's fine I guess. You should ideally cut out the eggs and tuna - but at the very least get organic eggs and wild caught fish. If the tuna comes from a can you should definitely stop using it.
You can make coconut milk kefir, not sure about hemp milk; however, you should know that hemp seeds are not raw in the U.S, it's illegal to sell truly raw hemp seeds because they're afraid you'll grow marijuana :)
Do you have a juicer? They are one of the best ways to get large quantities of nutrients into your body with minimal digestive effort. Fresh juice is loaded with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other phytonutrients. For a real treat try growing wheatgrass and juicing it...tastes pretty bad at first but by far one of the most nutritious foods there is. Alfalfa sprouts and sunflower greens are also good, as are pea shoots.

I do not have a juicer yet. I've been checking out the reviews and taking my time with that. The Omega 8006 looks like a good one. I liked the greenstar juicer, but not the price tag. Would getting a dehydrator help also? I believe that eventually I will be juicing deep dark rich greens and veges often. Right now I am using my vitamix blender for green smoothies and taking prenatal vitamins and evening primrose oil . I am nursing, so I want to make sure that I release toxins very slowely. I don't want to "dump" toxins yet, but I can barely wait. I know I am going to feel so much better then.
I need some ideas on things I can eat to keep me from going back into junk food mode. I have been there, and I wake up feeling hung over almost.
My eggs are organic and cage free. The tuna was from a can. I am very interested in growing some wheatgrass juice, and so is my mom! I hope it could help Elaina's allergies. Can I just buy a plant and grow it in a container in the house or outdoors, or just plant it in the ground?

Dehydrators let you prepare many meals that resemble cooked food. If you think that it will help you transition to raw, go for it. I don't use a dehydrator because dehydrated food is less nutritious then when it's fresh, but it is better then eating most cooked food.
taking prenatal vitamins
Are they synthetic (chemical) vitamins or derived from whole food? Really, the only nutritional supplements that you should be taking are whole food supplements/superfoods. Synthetic nutrients generally do more harm then good.

If you want to grow wheatgrass, buy organic wheat berries (red winter wheat is best) and sprouting trays. Soak the berries for 12 hours and sprout them for a couple days, rinsing twice a day. Fill the tray with soil (about 1 inch high) and distribute the wheat berries so they are touching each other but not overlapping (if you get mold, use less wheat berries). At this point I cover the trays with newspaper for about three days while the grass grows (don't water during this time), then remove the newspaper and expose the grass to indirect sunlight. You don't have to worry about the timing so much, because the grass will actually push up the newspaper as it grows - that's when it's time to remove it. Watering depends on temperature and other factors, but don't let the soil become dry. Harvest when it's anywhere from 7-10 inches high. You can also use a little kelp fertilizer, or diluted sea water or a liquid trace mineral supplement to improve the wheatgrass's growth and make it more nutritious. The amount of wheat berries you use per tray depends on the size of the trays.
Many people end up with mold problems on their wheatgrass. You can decrease the amount of mold you get by using one of the fertilizers I mentioned above, by planting less wheat berries, by soaking the berries in a water + hydrogen peroxide solution (1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide to 2 cups water), by growing the wheatgrass outside, or by soaking the wheat berries for less time. The best thing to try is the hydrogen peroxide, as it also improves the growth of the wheatgrass. If you do get mold, you can just cut above it or rinse it off and still juice the wheatgrass.

I wouldn't know, I buy them in bulk online; I imagine that you could though.

Again, I buy most of this stuff online. Maybe you could get it at a gardening store?
