Hey all,

Yesterday, I visited our friendly "Crossetts" wholesaler (fruits and vegetables)
and they have over 100 organic items that get sold to local grocers.
Crossetts also has walk-in sales to individuals but you have to buy in bulk.

For example, I just bought:
25lb bag of Bunny Luv organic carrots $11 (Wild Oats sells 'em for $20-$25)
40 lb box of organic bananas $18 ($.69c lb at Krogers)
A case of Organic Oranges
Special Buy: 12 pint carton of strawberries for only $3.00

Most things are too big, for example, I don't think I could eat 24 headcount of Romaine before it went bad. Okay, maybe I could but I wouldn't have room to store it... :-)

If you haven't already done so, you might want to check your area for
such wholesalers -- you might be able to save some money. And, if you buy
bulk like that it is extra incentive to eat organic produce knowing that if you don't eat your food it will go to waste.

HELP PLEASE:
I welcome ideas on how to go through 12 pints of strawberries quickly :-)
I love Alissa's book index by food types. For example, I instantly had access to 8 of her recipes that had strawberries. I'm looking for some quick recipes that are simple... For example, can you make fruit leathers with strawberries mixed with apples/bananas?

Banana Tip: If you buy bulk bananas and have lots of leftovers ...
You can use an egg slicer and slice each banana lengthwise. Place 'em on your dehydrator mesh screen and dehydrate until desired consistency.
Or, freeze them for later use in ice creams, smoothies, etc...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

Strawberries freeze wonderfully. I layer them on a cookie sheet, 1 layer deep. Freeze, then bag. Great now to use in smoothies.

Sure wish I had access to such bargains!

Strawberries make excellent fruit leather, we also mix ours with mint, and sometimes other berries, or apples, etc.

Also, your bananas make excellent fruit leather, (that is the wrapping on the strawberry crepes of Alissa's) mmmmmmmm

Also, like others have said freeze strawberries, or even dehydrate them after cutting them in half, they are super yummy.

also, strawberry sorbet is excellent, and strawberry crepes, strawberry face mask (just smashed strawberries on your face, that easy) so many ways to use them.
