View Full Version : How many dates are too many?

I ate a LOOOOOOOOT of dates today. When I say a lot, I mean probably about 350 grams. I'm a little concerned because they are so calorie dense. I do count calories even though I shouldn't. It's a habit I'm trying to break, but I still want to be somewhat aware of what I'm consuming. Are dates okay to pig out on or should I limit myself?

I too eat a LOT. Love em.
I have fairly bad habits with food, gorging myself way past my limits. Used to be far worse on my previous diet but at least with Raw the worst it gets is gorging on dates.
I often eat 200g a sitting and occasionally 300-400g! Most likely isnt great for you but im hoping nothing too serious either.
From my very limited research i saw a few experiments where people were asked to eat a lot of dates every day for a long period of time and the researchers concluded that no harm was done, even to the diabetics amongst them.
Im sure theres a flip side too. Ill try do some more research and find out!

Awesome! That's good to hear. I've read a bit now that there are quite a few people who eat large quantities of dates, but no one really mentions the effect it has on their weight. I'm just concerned about bloating and gaining weight. I probably won't buy dates again for a while to avoid this problem. I was the same with nuts. Couldn't get enough. I'm getting better with that though.

I had a similar experience with dates, now a days i limit myself to only using them in recipes. And with nuts/seeds i do almost the same, i will usually only eat them if they've been soaked and then i make something (a smoothie, dressing, pate, or dessert).

No amounts of dates are too many if they are Black Sphinx dates! :heart At least in my opinion!
