Greetings everyone!

I'm a lad of 27 years from the United states of Britain (England precisely) and I'm constantly content :)

It was about six weeks ago now. In the past I have tried controlling my diet in a variety of ways, however never felt the benefit in what were essentially, half-measures.

I must make it known that up until recently, I had a very typical western diet with all the trimmings, red-meat, dairy, refined sugars, energy drinks and all. Also a daily smoker to boot!

So I've been reading up on raw foods here and there for maybe 3-4 years now. I'd look at the recipe's with a somewhat watery mouth, but it never occurred to me that I could actually do it. Six weeks ago I decided to take the plunge, bought a couple of recipe books and began my raw food learning experience.

The idea was to ease my way into it, but after that first green smoothie I somehow already felt the benefit. On my way I carried a litre of water and at work on that first day for lunch, I got myself a small bag of cashews, a banana, 2 clementines and a bell pepper. From there, I knew I could do this. I made myself a salad that evening with an olive oil based dressing infused with garlic and chili (my first home-made dressing may I add ;) ).

Four days in I had a really good nights sleep. Its unusual, but it does happen on occasion. Straight to sleep, then up easy with the alarm. Then the next day.... and the next :) Not since I was 16 have I had a regular sleeping pattern, even longer since I felt like I had quality sleep. Then here I am, sleeping like I thought I never could....

Every night!

I've lost jobs in the past from constantly sleeping in due to a displaced sleep patterns in a haze of endless insomnia, so this new turn of events is very welcome.

I stayed at a good friends house last night. Every time I'd stay over there, I'd always be the last too sleep as I especially found it difficult to sleep round other folks houses. Then I'd be difficultly awoke in the morning with much resistence on my behalf. Ooooh how good it was this time to have the shoe on the other foot! I'm determind to get to the stage where I don't require an alarm clock. It seems I'm out-racing it most days, but turning it off seems a dangerous game.

Then the gifts just keep on coming. Last july I took up running as a means of staving off a good couple of months of over-drinking, the first few attempts were rather painful I can assure you. Anyway, I managed to get my self up to a humble 2 miles which I tried to do rather regularly, but never really tried to improve on. Between November to March I didn't run at all. Two weeks into the diet I went for a run... well it was bordering on a sprint! Same 2 miles but in about 1/2 the time to what I was used to. A few days later I did a slightly longer run a similar pace. Effortless :)

No training -> Change of Diet -> Highly noticeable positive results :D

So a week ago I decided I just wasn't going to smoke anymore. Since starting this diet, I had actually been smoking more than usual, as when I had some unecassary craving not related to hunger, I'd smoke. That's when I started the thinking. Maybe I should just stop? Thought about it for a couple of days, then just did it. The first 48 hours wasn't even that bad. Just realised when I was walking somewhere I'd usually have a cigarette, but now I'm won't. It's fine.

In my 8 years of smoking there have been a couple of periods of a few months where I haven't smoked, but I've never felt as great as I have after this Raw, Non-smoking, running like crazy week.

If only more people knew!

I think I may have already turned a friend onto this, just buy him seeing me, all healthy and bright-eyed and hearing what I have to say.

Anyways, I think I'll stick around these parts for a while as I have a long way to go and I see I have a great asset here in a great resevoir of knowledge from some beautiful people.

I look forward to getting to know you all :)

Welcome.
I am glad that it is all working out so well for you. I just forced my husband to read you post. I told him that I will "get him" yet. Every bit of propaganda helps and especially when it comes from a normal (even smoking) person.
