I can't speak to my doctor until tomorrow, so I am posting here looking for some support.

I've never really been a land meat eater all my life (haven't eaten any for a few years) although have loved fish and have eaten it a few times a month. I started an 80% raw food diet in September. In December I had a few set backs binging on cookies for two days. After that I carried on raw mostly. In late January I was up to 90-95% raw. Due to several health issues, my doctor has put me on a detox program as of a month ago of high fruits and veggies, zero nuts and barely any seeds. I can eat these in any form. I can also have steamed sweet potatoes and veggies every now and then. It's crucially important I detox for the next 6 months, along with taking the herbs which are not cheap. Well, I fell off the wagon a few times and had kale chips with lots of nuts and since yesterday I totally flipped out and had three whole plates of fish, avacado sushi rolls wrapped with white rice and soy sauce with wheat (sensitive to soy and wheat) a whole plate of chocolate cake (made with white flour, white sugar, eggs, dairy and everything else that's terrible). I'm not even much of a pastry person to begin with and haven't had milk in years. My detox has clearly stopped after doing pretty well and I feel totally bummed, guilty, and like I've wasted the effort, herbs, and amount of money that goes into it so far. :{

Don't be too hard on yourself *hugs*

You can pick up where you left off. Don't worry! Just start over and keep going.

What do you think triggered this binge? Figuring out why it happened can prevent it from happening again. I've struggled with compulsive eating before so I totally understand.

It must be frustrating for you to be doing so well, and have big setbacks. I have had SAD cravings too and last night while filling the easter eggs with candy, I really wanted chocolate. I made some raw vegan brownies. What helps me when I am craving bad food is that I treat myself to my favorite raw food. There are raw kale chips that are to-die-for when I am craving crunchy. If I am craving sweet, a green smoothing is just the prescription. I hope you are able to get back on. You can do this. You hit a speed bump, but just roll on over it and keep going. :)

Hi, thank you for understanding. I can do pretty well usually until I discovered kale chips and the ones I am addicted to have lots of nuts in them. I've cheated here and there with these kale chips which I was told that I must avoid nuts while detoxing. Well these kale chips are healthy if your not detoxing, but flipping out this weekend was another story.... Actually have been having major food cravings for the past 2 weeks of Mexican food, pizza, pasta, sushi and even land meat when land meat totally grosses me out.

I'm unsure what triggered it exactly. I've had a lot of stress in my personal life for awhile now, yet I did not binge this way before. I'm 3 weeks into taking my herbs which are pretty strong. One of the issues I am having is small intestine bacteria overgrowth - no parasites or candida though. I'm taking a parasite formula for the overgrowth though and I am wondering if the binge was triggered by maybe a detox and the herbs doing there job?

Hi, thank you!

The problem is, my doctor has put me on a detox program for 6 months with powerful herbs. The only foods I can have are veggies and fruits and steamed sweet potatoes and veggies here and there.. I can have them in any form from juicing, smoothies, salads, soups, dried fruits etc. Primarily, he wants me to eat a diet high in fruit. I cannot have any nuts and barely any seeds, he said it stops the detox if I do and also, my body is in a very acidic environment so eating seeds and nuts just adds too it. This is why I'm having a hard time - the detoxing.

Do you think that you could handle a juice fast even for a few days. It would help to retrain your appetite and get you back on track.

Yes I think can... I don't really have a choice other than continuing on with health issues which isn't another option. How much juice should I be drinking on a juice fast? Also, is it okay to eat watermelons also?

Detox can be awful. I had a bad week detoxing. It does end though. Eating all the fruits and veggies you want won't be too bad once you get past the detox. Relax, take hot bath/shower, and get plenty of rest. I hope you are feeling better soon.

It is more generally called a "juice feast" because you can have as much juice as you like. You can juice the watermelon. It is mostly juice anyway.

If you go back to the main page you will see that there is an entire section here devoted to juicing and sprouting. You will find lots of interesting posts there.

Slow down. It takes time and if you push it, you run the risk of "falling off the wagon" again and again. Easing into raw may be best for you and that is okay. There are no rules.

Could you be restricting yourself too much? Being raw is hard enough! Maybe you wouldn't binge if you ate all raw and didn't restrict raw, like it appears your doctor wants you to.

What is the reason for not being able to have nuts? It seems if you want to restrict yourself that much you might as well just do a juice fast like sport suggested. I don't understand why you'd limit nuts but not sweet potatoes, unless you're allergic to nuts? Just trying to understand what exactly the problem is with nuts. I think a raw diet (with nuts) would still be very detoxifying compared to a SAD diet and I've never heard of nuts stopping a detox process unless you were in the middle of a fast (*as any solid food would somewhat).

Hello everyone! Thank you all for your support!! : )

I actually did make a slow transition into this - 3-4 months of gradually going raw. As of now, it's crucially important I eat a very high fruit diet mixed with veggies only and some steamed yams and veggies here and there. This is suppose to last 6 months. So it's not simply a raw food diet, it's a step beyond - detoxification which my doctor has stressed a lot about. I wish I could have nuts and seeds and all else, but it's all veggies and fruits only or nothing during a deep cellular detoxification process.

I spoke to the staff at my doctors office today. I had mentioned my binge and she had said the food cravings were common, but what had happened with me was that I was having a die off of bacteria from the powerful herbs I have been taking. She said it was the bacteria sending out signals for these foods. I mentioned the juice feast (sounds so much better lol) I started this morning. She said it was great for healing and building, but I should definately add a lot of whole fruit eating as fruits are the most powerful form of detoxification.... Sigh... All I could think of is chocolate cake when I hadn't had it for over a year until this weekend lol.

Yes, nuts are much healthier than a SAD diet but they are acidic. They will stop deep cellular detoxification. They will also cause lymph stagnation if eaten too much and in my case even a small amount will cause this as my body is highly acidic and my lymph system is totally stagnant giving me a host of health issues. Steamed yams/sweet potatoes still have the nutrients in them, and yes it will slow down the detox process but will not cause what nuts will. I could only eat them every now and them anyway. A juice feast does not give you the deep cellular detoxification that fruits do as it is for building and healing. Fruits detox the whole body, most importantly the lymph system as well as renewing every cell.
