Ok, guys - I'm trying to transition to raw, but I'm being very careful right now cuz I'm a breastfeeding mommy. :) So... I'm doing raw for breakfast and lunch. :) Now, that being said, since I started raw, I'm getting tiny little INSANELY itchy water blisters on my hands! Argh! They itch like chicken pox! Driving me nuts! I must be doing something wrong! :(
So... here's what I've been eating.
Breakfast & Lunch combined (I juice all non-fruit and then put in blender w/ fruit):
- Greens (kale, chard, spinach, etc - all ORGANIC from local Health Food store product section) (soaked/washed well)
- Large chunk of Ginger root (organic from product section of local health food store)
- 1 Lemon (organic from product section of local health food store)
- Homemade coconut milk (1 part organic raw coconut nibs + 3 parts water blended and then run thru nutmilk bag)
- 4 stalks of celery (organic from product section of local health food store)
- 2 green apples (organic from product section of local health food store)
- large handful of strawberries
- 1 banana
I feel like I'm breaking out in hives! Help!
PS - Do you think it might be the lemon? I thot lemon was essential to adding to green smoothies/juices. I have gotten a few blisters in the past from lemonade... now it's a BUNCH and it's driving me INSANE!! Any and all suggestions welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Peace & love,
Keesha

You will have to brake this down and eliminate some of the ingredient to see if you see a difference.
It could be lemon but some people have allergies with berries too.
You had such a great list of food.
Hope you figure it out soon.

Don't get discourage. You know you are producing top quality of milk for your little one. I started 100% raw food when i was nursing also.
About you do just one kind of food and see if you have a reaction. Then add another food the next day and continue. Research also for raw food that can cause hives or allergies. You could find something.
Were your strawberries organic? If not, berries are the worst food to eat not organic, they are loaded with pesticide. It could be as simple as that.
My friend has allergies with banana also. So banana could be an issue.
The good news about raw food is that many of your allergies will disappear over time.
About you eat the same and eliminate the strawberries, banana and the lemon. See what happen. Then you can try one of the tree to add the next day.
All the best and have a great weekend!

That has been happening to me too! Replace 1 to 2 meals a day with fresh juice and have recently been drinking alot of beet, kale, wheatgrass, carrot, and sweet potato juice. About 3 weeks ago both of my hands got itchy bumps that won't go away :(

Really? That helps my mind a little. I haven't had any "withdrawal" symptoms, but I'm not 100% raw. I still figured I'd have withdrawal symptoms, tho. I've been researching it and if I do it slowly, I shouldn't shock either my system or my baby's w/ "detox". He seems fine. My milk supply seems fine. I feel great... except for these dang blisters. Lol. I'll take your advice and eliminate everything. My berries were NOT organic. :( I'm going to try a green drink with nothing but green tomorrow (no lemon). *makes face* It's gonna be rough to get down, but maybe it'll solve my itchies. :) Thanks so much!

Raw Angel Mom's suggestion is a great one - think I'm gonna try it. Maybe you should, too! Try eating just 1 or 2 of those food groups (with nothing else added in) and see if you still have it. I have to say, even tho it sucks for you that it's happening to you, I'm so thankful I'm not the only one! Lol! Sorry lgriffith5! Lol! But misery loves company! Haha!! :) Check back in after re-evaluating some of your foods (eating them 1 at a time) and let me know how things go for you! I'm gonna play Sherlock Holmes and figure this out! :) I know (FOR A FACT) this is a healthier way of eating... but there's something I'm stressing my body out w/ right and, by golly, I'm gonna find it and STOP IT. This is NOT going to stop me! I'm STUBBORN! Lol! You be stubborn to! :) And "get those greens on" as Dara, the raw foodist, says! It's sooo good! Don't let this discourage you! :)

In another forum talking about Dyshidrotic Eczema Problem (which is probably what these blisters are), it said it's the body's way of trying to get toxins out.
Here's one lady's response to her problem w/ these stupid blisters. It gives me hope! :) All raw 100% organic saved her! (plus a short water fast) I can't do a water fast w/ my breastfeeding, but I can do 100% raw/organic! :)
Hello,
I've never fasted before but due to severe hand eczema, severe depression, 18 years cigarette addiction, some alcohol and marjuana habits, and other minor discomforts I started trying detoxing diets since January. I already ate mostly organic food for a year previous to that.
I started with the Macrobiotic diet (January 2005), which is quite hard to follow and I spent lots of money in utensils and special imported foods. Then, a month ago I moved to the raw-food diet, feeling much more energized than before.
I am on my fourth day of water only fast and although the past 3 days I have been quite miserable, today I feel wonderfully (I know it is to be expected the more I go on with the fast) and full of energy.
I quit smoking tobacco 1 month ago along with alcohol and I quit marjuana 1 week ago.
Since I started the fast and quit all those crappy substances, my hand eczema is almost unnoticeable, my depression has vanished. There's a big lifestyle change in front of me and I am thrilled about it.
As soon as I start breaking the fast I'm going to start my Kung-fu classes again.
Any suggestions on breaking the fast? I read some of the posts, but you guys are too complicated... I don't do enemas nor supplements/medications and I plan on staying on a raw-food diet first, then a vegan one for a while before reintroducing some yoghurt and occasional animal products.
Thanks a lot and God (or whoever, the universe, etc..) bless this forum.
Marilena
Hope this is encouraging to SOMEONE. Cuz I needed it. :)

I found a great product - fermented pomegranate oil. Fantastic for any skin issues. The whole itchy skin thing will pass as you become more "raw". Baby loving it? My daughter eats raw and her 3 mo baby is soooo healthy!

Fermented pomegranate oil? Hmm, I've never heard of it. I'll have to do some research. Thanks! :) My 6-month old boy doesn't seem to care. Lol. :) He just likes to eat. Lol. He is in the 95% range when we take him to the Dr. So he's almost rounder and taller than all other babies in that study! Lol! And he DOES like to eat! :) We EBF (exclusively breast feed - no supplementation), and he seems quite fine w/ that so far! Healthy as a horse! :) If I told the dr, he'd freak out, tho. Being raw while breastfeeding is not very popular. :o/
Thanks again!

I am nursing as well. I have been on a raw food diet since before getting pregnant and continued throughout pregnancy. I have the healthiest little dude. I agree with keeping to just a few ingredients in your shake to see what is bugging you. I know that bananas can bother me sometimes. I have been using pomegranate oil as well and I call it liquid gold. It's amazing for skin. I even use it for my little one on his cradle cap which has worked great.
