Helloooo. I've been doing raw for about a month and a half now and the whole time I've always stayed at about 1200-1300 calories per day without trying (I count because I'm new to it and want to eat enough), but now I just eat. Eat eat eat. I want to finally finish losing weight but I'm worried that won't happen if I keep stuffing my face every 5 minutes. I'd realllly appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Hi Danyelle!

Congratulations on your weight loss so far!

I'm confused because your stats say you've lost 16 pounds since going raw, but you say you've only been raw for a month and a half -- that seems like a VERY substantial weight loss to me. If I were you, I wouldn't want to change a thing hahahaaa!

But I know what you mean -- I eat a lot too and recently I've started to feel like I was just eating too much food every day. I wake up very early and usually do most of my eating before noon, so I gave myself a 2 p.m. cut-off to at least give my body a rest in the evenings. Maybe something like that would work for you?

I'm not so good at stopping eating.. Only when I'm asleep :P. There's just so much yummy food and I get bored so easily. Most of the time I'm not even hungry, it's pure boredom. I guess I could try to be more self disciplined!

I really wouldn't stress about it. Your body is hungry for nutrients and asking you for all this food right now. If I were you, I'd just relax and trust your body and eat!!

From what I've heard, it's pretty normal for people who are just starting raw to eat a lot. Then, over time, you start to become satisfied with much less food.

Also, your calorie intake seems pretty low (to me, anyway). Are you getting enough fats? Increasing the amount of nuts, seeds and things like avocados will let you feel more satisfied, so you won't eat as much.

I used to eat half an avocado a day but they're getting pretty expensive now. I used to absolutely binge like crazy on nuts so now I've put them in the fridge and have a handful a day. They never really made me feel satisfied though when I ate a lot of them. I gain really easy if I eat too much fat. I just feel like I have hollow legs these days! Bottomless pit!

Thanks for the replies by the way. You're super helpful. :)

You're welcome! I'm awake anyway hahahahaaa

But I wanted to suggest -- instead of eating nuts and seeds straight, why not try making them part of a dish? I add sesame seeds or almonds or cashews to smoothies or mylkshakes -- SOOOO filling and delish, and keeps me feeling full and satisfied for hours. Whereas just snacking on some seeds or a handful of cashews wouldn't do much for me, except make me want to eat MORE of them hahahahaa!

Also, you can make nut pates. Or use soaked nuts and seeds as bases for creamy sauces, salad dressings or soups. Add avocado to your smoothie -- or to a soup -- or a pudding! -- and it turns the meal into something much more substantial.

Chia seed pudding..... filling, high in fats and protein, can keep you going for hours....

If you're feeling compelled to eat without physical hunger, I think it's because your body is sending you the message to keep eating because it's not satisfied on some level.... this is how it works FOR ME, anyway. Nuts, seeds and fats made a big difference!

just go with the flow and as long as the flow is raw then you will be ok :o)

You could be doing withdrawn. Meaning, cook food is very very very addictive and it could miss the comfort from cook food.

Just eat and don't worry, you will normalize. Eat your FRUITS. Every cell of your body needs sugar, it is the best source for you versus sweetener or starch.

If you haven't start it, consider green smoothie, they are very filling and they also heal addiction.

Focus on your health, the weight will shed on its own.

Hang in there, you are doing great!

p.s You could need more fat also in your diet. Sprouted sunflower seed will do the trick beside the great suggestion given to you on this post!

I did have somewhat of a binge last friday night on cooked foods.. I felt absolutely dreadful for about 3 days. Could I be having more detox symptoms from that and my body wants more nutrients to heal itself?

You need to plan ahead more. Make sure you have soak nuts or seed all the time, so you can make something. It is far better eating raw gourmet then making exception with cook food. According to Alissa, it takes 30 days before we can be free from cook food craving. I personally feel more myself, that this is like coffee for me, i cannot make exception period. Eat a lot of raw food as long it is raw until your mind truly feel comfortable with this life style. In time, your body will adjust and you will crave for more simple food.

All the best!

I would eat if your hungry but try and eat several small meals a day. Having a shake is a great snack, have some fruit and have some veggies. I find eating about 12 almonds fills me. It is important as well to drink plenty of water as I find it takes me longer after a meal.
