View Full Version : Does the face reveal our "natural" weight?

Has anyone else wondered this? If what our ideal weight should be is reflected in the face?

I keep hearing people say they look "too thin" at X number of pounds, whereas others think they need to lose more. But I've noticed people at the same weight can have a different look in their face, like their face can be chubby or gaunt even though they're both at the same height and weight. So ignoring the BMI and what the scale says, should we pay attention to our faces?

I ask because I lost weight down to fitting into size 8 jeans (US size 4) and everyone thought I was thin but I still had surplus fat that I could grab all over me, and especially, my face was still chubby. I thought I could lose another 15lbs or so and still have some extra fat. My cheeks puffed out. When I lost another 10lbs that went, and my cheeks hollowed in like I think they should. And I definitely looked better and felt better without those extra 10lbs. Problem is, the BMI says that weight is too low for me, but I don't necessarily believe in BMI. BMI tells me that my lower "ideal" is what I'm at now, with a good 20lbs to spare. And my face is definitely fat.

I was wondering if this just means I have a small frame or something so I don't carry extra weight well or should I ignore my chubby face and just go by the BMI or...

Thoughts?

I'm DEFINITELY no expert, but my understanding is that if you focus on eating a healthy varied raw diet, your body will settle at its ideal natural weight completely on its own.

I think any weight loss you have to fast or diet to maintain is an indicator that this isnt your natural body weight. Just eating raw should get you where you should be on its own! Why worry about the BMI or getting down to a specific size? Your body knows better than you what you should weigh.

As to the face, most of the pictures I've seen of people who are eating raw long-term are glowing!!!

i'm 5' and most things say I should way about 105-110, but my thinnest was when I was 17 at about 113 and that was after I'd been really sick for almost a week. before i got pregnant I was about perfect at 123 and my face was nice and lean - leaner than it ever was, so I'm figuring it's somewhere around there - I'm low 140s now. Oy. And I've been settled around that for a long time and I do not accept.

I'm only ever a "healthy" BMI if I eat tonnes of junk, fat and processed foods. The only time I was ever a "healthy" weight was when I was in college and ate crisps/sweets/chip/fried food during the day at college then had some form of cooked dinner at home and probably an entire tub on Ben and Jerrys more often than not.

Even then I wasn't all that high up into the bmi scale. I think I was smack bam in the middle of their recommended weight. It was so obvious to look at me though that I was over my natural weight. I was getting fat.

Right now I'm a little underweight but I can still see that I'm just a touch over how I look naturally. I don't look skinny for it at all. Before going raw I'd been eating mostly healthily but I'd also been indulging in a lot of take-aways, chip shop food, scottish fried breakfasts and desserts. I'll probably lose maybe 5-10lbs before settling at my natural weight.

I think BMI is just a inaccurate way of judging these things. I'm extremely petite in frame and bmi only takes my height into account.
