Hey all,
I understand how awesome juicing is and how it works with your digestive system etc. Just curious though, i know smoothies made in a blender rnt quite as "broken down" as a juicer machine would do but they'd still give similar benefits right?
How comparable is juicing and "smoothieing"? I hope im right in thinking that drinking smoothies would only be slightly behind juicing and not vastly behind.
Thanks,
Jo

Its a personal choice. Smoothies have the fiber juices don't. I like to juice my veggies and blend my fruits. That is just my choice.

If you are starting on the raw food journey, smoothie has the fiber to cleanse your guts and you will detox gently. With juicing, it is absorb directly and you detox faster. You may want to watch out for gallbladder stone when you detox quickly. I waited a long time before juicing, i love juice. For fruits, i prefer eating them whole, i feel i need their fiber.
It is a personal choice and what is good for you. Juicing helps to give a brake to your digestive system, so it could be something that you need to do to restore balance. Do what feels right to you and research again.

This is what I like to do too.

I make my "dandi-tonic" every afternoon which consists of 1/2 bunch dandelion greens, 1/2 bunch curly green parsley, 1 red beet with leaves and 2 cups alfalfa sprouts. This is all juiced. It doesn't taste good - but I have worked my way up to no longer plugging my nose (wink!).
You mentioned masking the flavor of sprouts, so I thought I would post about the tonic I make.
Best wishes and raw food kisses!

There is not a thing wrong with lots of fiber but, I juice mostly because I could never eat that mass amount of vegetables without juicing. Also the human body can't break down the cellulose in wheat grass and stuff.

A big difference between juicing and smoothies, but l don't have time to go into that right now. But remember this...fiber needs to be eliminated by the body with great expense of energy. After doing smoothies, eating all raw, and doing juice fasts for several years, one would probably be much better off living on juice.

Juice and smoothies both have pro's and con's. It all depends on what you are currently trying to accomplish and neither one is better than the other, they both hold their own weight and both deserve to be a part of anyone's lifestyle.

Smoothies are better. I frequently have smoothies for breakfast. it’s a great way to have a healthy meal on the go.

I do both. I have a green smoothie for breakfast and then juice for lunch or dinner. That way, I'm hoping to get the benefits of both. As others have said, there are pros and cons to each.
there are many threads on RFT discussing blending-vs-juicing.

Ok thats some useful info. For the meantime ill stick to eating raw and adding some smoothies. As soon as my income becomes more stable im totally up for getting a decent juicer and incorporating that into my diet. A full on juice fast is something i look forwards to getting stuck into.
Appreciate all the helpful input!

If you have a blender and can make smoothies then you can make juice too. I've never done it but many on here do. Just get a nut mylk bag and strain the smoothie through the bag to get all the pulp out and your left with juice.
Some also use paint strainer bags from hardware stores.
But like I said, I've never done it so I don't know how well it works. But maybe someone will chime in and comment on using the nut mylk bags. Or I'm sure you could find some good info doing a search.

I love to do both:heart: - depends on what I have a taste for at the time. For a while I have only been making smoothies because I moved and lost some of the parts to my juicer so it's pretty much useless. Probably going to buy a new juicer within the next few weeks. I have to say that smoothies keep me feeling full much longer than juicing.
