I've been trying to be very balanced in the way I eat. Wanting to make sure that I eat enough greens but all I every really crave and want to eat is the nutty, sweet, yummy treats. I want to be a full on raw foodist for the rest of my life. I feel so great when I eat raw. Does your palate change when youve been raw for a while? How long does it take? Also, I hear a lot of people talking about how you dont need much food once your body adjusts. that would be amazing! I've always had problem with quantity of food that I consume. Its like I'm never satisfied. I just want to be able to have a glass of fresh juice and be OK.

Grow some alfalfa sprouts or sunflower greens/pea shoots and have a nice big glass of them (juiced) in the morning upon waking and before dinner. That should help with the greens problem.

The best way to quickly change your taste buds is to eat lots of strong green foods like weeds and sprouts, without mixing them with things like fruits to mask the flavor. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, your tastes will still change, but much much slower.

You'll get there eventually (especially if you focus on sprouts), but that is a long-term goal. For now, eat as much as you need to and make sure you don't go hungry, or it will be much harder to stay raw.

Thanks for your reply Living Food, its difficult for me to eat sprouts for the time being. I really would love to eat mostly sprouts but they just dont taste very good. I feel like I wouldnt last very long on raw if I were eating sprouts so early on my raw journey. I did sprout some lentils but i could only throw a few into my salad that I drizzled raw pad thai dressing over.

Or you could do as I'm doing for the time being, rather than going into an almost spoutarian route right away just concentrate on being 100% raw for X amount of time (or until you're settled with it) to start with?

Definitely get lots of sprouts into your diet but for now add some other things with them and/or add a bit of dressing, just so you're eating them but don't have to deal too much with the taste yet. A tiny bit of dressing goes a long way with alfalfa for example.

Just eat whatever you crave so long as it's raw to start with, it's a big change and if you're denying yourself something you're going to end up caving and falling into old ways.

Once you're eating 100% and are stable for a few months or however long and you're feeling comfortable with it, then start making changes if that's what you want to do. Cut down on your nuts and fruits if that's what you want. Start eating just a plain bowl of sprouts for one of your meals every couple of days then build from there or do whatever it is you want to try to enhance your diet.

Just take it in smaller steps. You're going to benefit much more spending time letting yourself get used to things and then experimenting than you are from trying to go sproutarian right away and then caving and going back to cooked foods.

That's my 2p but it's up to you. :)

Alissa's philosophy of "eat what you want, as long as it's raw" really does work. It's true you crave rich and sweet foods in the beginning -- you're going through a powerful withdrawal from cooked foods! Eat whatever you feel like for now and don't worry about it.

Over time you'll start to crave simpler, more basic foods. I can honestly say it's happening to me! Now I'm all about the salads, the smoothies, the plain fruits.

I've HEARD that people eat less food over time and I REALLY hope that's true hahahhaaa! So far my appetite's stayed pretty strong, so I'm cutting back on the number of meals per day. But I haven't even been eating raw for a year.... from what I've seen on this board, it does look like your appetite does tend to lessen with time.

Thank you both for your replies! That is so helpful! I like that philosophy a lot. I've been very excited about being raw and I've been feeling amazing. What I'm gonna focus on is eating raw but eating what I want. Thank you so much for the support!

Different things work different for everyone. :)

Do what you feel will work for you and for your long term goals. Don't feel pressured to eat a certain way just find what's in your own best interest. Or experiment!
Try one way and if you find it's really not working try another until you get there. Keep checking in here and it should still keep you on track towards your goals.

Thank you guys for the amazing advice! So excited to have this support. You know, its easy to restrict and feel like I need to be eating a certain way but bottom line is that I want to be raw and I want this to last. I feel like I will definitely be more successful if I allow myself freedom. And its so amazing to have the support of fellow raw fooders that have been on this path for so long! Love you all~

Number #1 is definitely allow yourself some Freedom. That discussion never gets old as we live in a society that worships bad food and you have to live IN that society to some degree.

Number #2 is Fruity and Nutty is amazing and something that myself or Chef Sal never tires of.
