Okay weird, I just ordered some raw foods from iherb (mir822 for $5 off *first orders* for everyone) and it led me to this big ol prop 65 thang about chemicals in these foods are listed to cause birth defects, cancer, ummmm Chia seeds? Puhlease. What is this all about? I just started reading about prop 65, but maybe someone here can enlighten me a lil more on how and why it's put up against raw foods in California.

My friend also ordered Chia seeds as well and that warning came up, and he started to freak. Silly rabbit.

That makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Raw unprocessed natural foods containing chemicals? And what processed food is the way to go?

Raw foods can still have chemicals on them if pesticides and herbacides are used in the farming process. Is the website warning your about that, or something else?

California has many many warning all over about harmful chemicals used and that they cause birth defects, cancer, etc... If it isn't organic it most likely has pesticides and herbacides on them. I bet that is what the warning is for to let you know hey these aren't organic and (raw meaning not heated) so be careful. But if they are organic than I'm not sure why they are warning you?

When I have ordered from them I order Raw Organic Non Toxic things, and right when you check out it then takes you to a page that shows the prop 65. Even when I have ordered Healthforce Nutritionals items that are labeled organic, non toxic, it still mentions it. The Chia seeds were organic from Nutiva. So, shrugs...

Hey all... I just got a response from the customer service manager at Healthforce Nutritional... It's very interesting... Gr8 for Cali peeps to know.

Dear David,

We are in the process of getting these labels removed. We do extensive tests on our products, however a loophole in the California law allow anyone to make a claim against you on the grounds of prop 65 and then you are left to either settle out of court or go through a lawyer to have the claim removed.

------

Our products do NOT contain any chemical known to the state of California to cause reproductive harm.

An unscrupulous lawyers group, called the Environmental Resource Center, alleged that we, and countless other supplement and whole foods supplement companies, had things like lead in our products. They have the right to allege this based on prop 65 which was initiated to protect consumers from inorganic lead (in drinking water, etc.). They wanted us to “settle” with them for an undisclosed amount. We refused because we had done nothing wrong. They presented NO data that we had ANY toxic levels of anything. We don’t. They have broken the law in alleging this without proof and then not responding to us. They will no longer take our calls or return emails. Because this unproven allegation still exists in the California legal system, policy requires them to list this. It is listed on many other products that are also free of any toxic chemicals. This lawyer group has targeted many other companies as well. They are unscrupulous snakes trying to extort money from anyone they can.

Their assertions are both false and not retracting them is illegal and immoral. We are working on forcing them to remove this.
