Just got back from my local farmers market and I got a few pounds of spinach and kale. The farmer I purchased from today isn't certified organic, but they don't use sprays or pesticides on there produce. Is that still ok?

thanks

I don't know if it's "as good as organic"? But one of my favorite farmers at the market does the same - nothing chemical applied or sprayed. That's good enough for me, I don't 'mind' that they're not certified. Just my opinion though ~

of course it is ok. Certified organic is just a label that means less and less as time goes on. If you know the farmer and trust him or her then that is the same as certified organic ... maybe even better!

In the summer, we get fresh tomatoes from a local grower that is the same. They are the best tomatoes I've ever tasted. I think they grow them with love!

I agree that as time goes on, organic is meaning less what it used to mean.

It could mean that they're grown with artificial fertilizer, but even if they are, you're frankly better off with food fresh from the farmer's market v.s weeks old organic food, and its far better for the planet and the local economy to buy local food. If I didn't grow all of my own food, I'd buy as much as possible from my farmer's market.

Exactly. The stuff they are now allowing under certified organic would make your hair curl, in some cases unsprayed non certified organic is probably better. As long as you have some water based foods and some sprouts, there shouldn't be any problems.

What do you mean by water based foods?

This is excellent and this is from your local farmer.

Organic guaranty that their seeds are also organic and not gmo.

It is far best to buy from your local farmer. It is fresher and it helps your farmers.

All the best!
