Hi,

I have both books, but I must admit that I haven't had a chance to look in them yet. If there is something you would like me to look at, I would be happy to. Its crazy all the books that I want to read (homeschooling, raw foods, Ect.) and have no time.

I am sorry I didn't see you responded to my question.

Now the pressure is on for me to think of all I wanted to know about these books.
Umm....
I think along the lines, do they have any unique information that is not in other raw books that I might have? Do they have good recipes that you think your kids would really enjoy? Ideas to help "transition" an older child?
Oh...I think most importantly... Do either have information on what children need at various ages?

Like I am wondering about my 17mo old. He really is not into vegetables. But if I think about it, should he be? Wouldn't a soft fruit be more appealing?
So should I worry about him getting vegetables in his diet? Or is fruit enough?
Do they reccomend vitamin supplements?

Okay, sorry. I will stop.
Well if you find time( and I understand if you don't) let me know what your opinion on the books are.

Thank you !

Not really addressing your question but I feed my 16mo. old a very green juice (apples, kale, lemon & ginger juiced then put in blender with a handful of spinach) for a.m. then a bowl of fruit for mid am snack. Lunch is more fruit followed by breast then fruit when he wakes from nap then whatever is going for dinner. If nothing appeals to him I lightly stem veggies or give more fruit. he is very happy with the quantity - I do feed on demand as much as he wants. I had read on a thread that kids know what they want & generally how much. I stopped questioning what I should feed him and let him tell me and it has worked out fine!

Sorry, tangent from thread, but I think kids are just like grown-ups... if it's raw, they'll know when to stop. But if it's processed junk, they'll probably keep going... case in point, at the grocery store today, I saw a baby (had to be about 1) in the cart eating a huge bismark. A little bit later I saw her mom pulling a bottle of orange pop out of her purse and giving it to her... then in the check out line the baby was eating a bag of gold fish crackers  This baby was definitely on the heavy side. I felt to bad for her, but mostly mad at her mom

And they want to lock up the Andressohns?

Thank you. Eachpearplum...My 4yr old when she was younger would gladly gobble up any fresh juice or smoothie, steam veggie whatever I put in front of her. She was a very good eater. Healthy eater I mean. Still for the most part is. It's cute when she tries something that she doesn't like. She genuinely feels bad about it. I get the impression that she feels she is dissappointing me if she doesn't like something. I'm like you don't have to like everything--don't feel bad.
Anywho...my young son is a different story. He has just started to like a little bit of smoothie. Just a little bit. And very particular about what is in them. Still figuring that out. I think he hates bananas, and can taste them even when they are mixed in something.
I will just keep trying though. He is still mostly breastfeeding. So I guess I shouldn't worry, right?

Kmik...your story is soooo sad. I have the hardest time watching little babies eating like that. I don't get it. I try very hard to try to not judge people. But those situations are very hard to not have an opinion about!

You know. . . I had & have the same problem (smoothie). I found it was not the ingredients but the thickness & temp of the smoothie, mine were always thick & very cold and neither kid would touch them (5yrs&15mo.)!

So I started making them thinner and using part unfrozen fruit or warm water with all frozen fruit. And I AWAYS add a few leaves of spinach as it blends so well. Instead of adding a big handful to one smoothie I just make sure to put a few leaves in each smoothie, then I can just not worry about the veg issue on days they do not sit and eat an actually veg!

Saying all that, myself and my kids have the same banana issues too. We only like them if they are not too ripe as the flavor is just too strong then. I know its not recommended (causes acid in the system?) but we use them not over ripe and that really helps with the flavor! We don't eat tha many so I'm not too worried.

All the best - I am going to try and get those two books! :p

The Raw Kids book isn't only about convincing you that your children should eat raw, it has tips and tricks on getting your children to actually EAT raw, for real, not just in theory. If you're having diet conversion problems, the Raw Kids book can be very helpful. I bought a copy, read it, and donated it to the local library. Not because I didn't want it but because I thought it might help someone else in their journey to healthy living. Its a good book.

Hey my daughter wont eat vegetables much either. So I put greens in her milk and away she goes. She drinks the milk up faster with the greens added then without them in her milk.

She actually ate some of my salad yesterday. A milestone for me. She was very hungry because we were running all day.

kmik, I understand your point about what other people feed their kids, it deeply bothers me too. I wonder how much does a mother love her child if she feeds her all that stuff that isnt really food.

My daughters doctor said no problem on feeding my child a vegan diet. She just wanted me to add some things to her diet to round it out. Which is fine. The nurse that I talked to was a vegetarian. Yeah!!!

Have to go, take care and God bless

Do you mean that you put some green powder stuff in her milk?
What kind of milk do you mix it in?

Hi

I borrowed Raw Kids from a friend of mine and was very glad that I didn't waste my money on it. I didn't find it to be helpful at all. There was not much info in it and not really much for good ideas on feeding your children. A lot of it was talking about transitioning them in (if I am remembering correctly). What I do remember is thinking that it wasn't very helpful.

Hi,

I agree with werevegans post as well. I too really enjoyed this book. I felt it was a great pep talk ! I agree it was not loaded with new information but it is the only book I have found so far specifically geared towards moms who need help transitioning their children.

If you need help I would not write it off. I will gladly lend my copy to someone is interested in reading it. i'll mail it to you, just mail it back or onto someone else from this board when done :D .

I havent checked this thread in a long time. Yes, I was adding a little spirilina to my babys milk to try and get her to get some greens. But it was making her poop gooey.

Sorry for the terminology. I tried for the past two days making a green smoothie with banana and spinach, which I know she likes and I have added a couple of teaspoons to her nut milk. she was drinking it up.
Hopefully her poops will be back to normal.

Yes, I have read Raw kids and it did talk a lot about transisitoning. It gave me some information on what my child should be consuming calorie wise and her weight and height measures. I cant remember much else. I just purchased Baby Greens and just getting through the first few pages have been daunting.

However, I can not recommend the Baby Greens, because I have not been able to get to anything relating to my baby yet. It seems to start with a lot of background information on the raw lifestyle. Good luck.

I just finished reading Baby Greens. Yes, I would recommend the book. It has activities in the back of the book that would be good adventures in understanding foods for your kids.

However, my kid is still a little young for these activities. And if I was going to use food. I would have to be careful, because of the costs involved with using the food for projects.

They also had some recipes in there that you may want to try for your child to eat. I hope someday that my baby will tell me lets try this recipe Mom.

Matilda - i haven't had a chance to read either of those books but my health educator has recommended the Raw Kids books to me to read. I think there's a dvd/video of that as well?

I have two boys ages 6 & 10 and they eat lots of raw but still eat things like ezekiel breads with their raw nut butter and mock tuna spread and ezekial tortilla's and they LOVE all kinds of soups - they prefer the cooked soups to the room temp raw ones. I'm the kinda mama that follows my kids lead, so i allow them to choose what they want to eat i don't just put food before them and say "eat". I don't allow certain things in my house (such as junk foods, artificial things, sugar or sugar substitutes, and what i call "junk juices") so they have grown up this way and are used to eating a healthy diet, just not a 100% raw diet because i didn't start them out that way... my husband and i just got turned on to the raw diet a few months ago. I guess as with all relationships, the family has to reach certain compromises and find what's comfortable for your situation and your kids. Some people I have heard just switched to raw and insisted their kids be raw and the kids rebelled and went completely the opposite way. that thought kinda helps me come to terms with my kids still eating some foods which i may not like them to eat, but i feel in my heart i should let them eat it because they are their own individual people and they need to feel that they have control over their own lives. it's just up to me to encourage positive change and support their decisions.

Anyway - good luck!
