I was just wondering if anyone has read Fredrick Patenaude's book "The Raw Secrets" and what they thought of it?
Thanks,
Lisa

I was JUST going to post a thread about this same book. I wanted to purchase it but wanted some feedback too!! I am excited to hear any input. I like the author and the book seems to be simple and direct?? I am with you Lisa:)

i enjoyed it, i read it a few months ago. Frederic is very blunt and staright forward , sometimes people are not used to this way of communication i think... but you can tell he enjoys what he does. I think it is worth it. I don't think there were many recipes. It was mainly information.

I have it and enjoy his straight forward easy ro read approach. It is a book of common sense information (in that it is not all jargon and science). There are no recipes but the things I like are:
- informative
- easy to read
- easy to understand
- outlines some commone pitfalls
- not dogmatic / rigid - he supports some lightly steamed veggies for those who want it especially for those who find themselves eating high fat raw diet

I have read it twice and enjoyed it both times. I got more the second time as like any good book you sometimes miss things or else you are not ready to hear them. I recommend the book.

I can't remember anything spectacular about it. 12 steps to Raw food is better and on the same page. Get it from your library. I cannot believe how many raw food books are offered at the library!

You have wonderful librarians ordering up there, because this is not the case everywhere. The local libraries are so short on funds or whatever -- the upshot is that only the most popular books are ordered. There are basically no raw & living food books at the libraries here.

Enjoy, you in other states!!

Its a neat little book! As promised, very easy recipes. You can buy almost all of the ingredients in a normal grocery store, making this a good choice for those living in areas where not a lot of specialty ingredients are available.

Many beginners, however, would probably prefer recipes that are more highly seasoned. If you are good with seasonings, you could adjust these accordingly. If you are not really that comfortable in the kitchen, and are coming from a highly seasoned/processed SAD, this is probably not the book for you.

But if you want easy, simple, clean, wholesome raw recipes, go for it! Lots of great smoothie ideas. His raw soups are great! I have a feeling this book may be better for "experienced" raw fooders. Not because the recipes are difficult - they aren't difficult at all! The techniques are VERY accessible. But, like I said, many beginners may prefer more highly seasoned recipes.

If you want a book that is like this, but with tastes that are more appealing to the beginner, I HIGHLY recommend "raw food made easy for one or two people" by Jennifer Cornbleet. These recipes taste good to beginners, and require no dehydrating (a definite plus!)

Does this help?

Ack, sorry! I was thinking of his recipe book "Instant Raw Sensations". Not raw secrets. Haven't read that. Oops. :o

I enjoyed the eBook version of the Raw Secrets. I
think he did a great job on it. I posted a full Raw
Secrets review on my blog at

I thought it was a great book, made loads of sense to me. I really subscribe to that style of eating, even though I have trouble staying on the path - I hope and continue to work toward it one day!

That is why I love this site though. Because most people starting out need a lot of the seasonings, extra fat and so on. This place in general is kind of like a stepping stone for folks who aren't able to just jump into such a pure diet, coming from such an un-pure one.

As a matter of fact, I lent my book out and am trying to get it back - I don't see it anywhere in print anymore. I just see it as an e-book.
