This is a difficult question to answer. The research regarding the connection between genetics and raw diet has been limited to the DEVELOPEMENT of genetic mutations, not the REVERSAL of. But I think we can gain insight on how by looking at the results.

Pottenger's cats. In brief, Francis Pottenger experimented with several groups of cats (experimental, and one control) over 4 successive generations. The control group was given raw meat/raw milk diet, and the experimental groups were given varying degrees of devitalized diet, cooked meat and either pasteurized milk, evaporated milk, dry reconstituted milk, etc.

The results were astonishing. The control group developed no abnormalities of any kind over the successive generations. They each lived long lives, developed no disease, etc. But the experimental groups, that's a different story!

The first generation lived out their allotted life span, but developed degenerative disease toward the latter end of life. Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Now, keep in mind that these cats showed no disease in early or mid-life, when they were bearing their offspring. So they appeared healthy, and so did their offspring at the time of birth.

The second generation didn't fair as well. They developed chronic degenerative diseases near mid-life, genetic mutations began to be displayed in the form of the types of cancers, etc., and they died earlier, too. They gave birth to their young before disease appeared, but their offspring were underweight, the births were difficult, and they did not look as well at birth. A full 25% were sterile (unable to bear young.)

The third generation was even worse. They developed disease early in life, were born with obvious genetic mutations and birth defects, and suffered as they passed away.

There was no forth generation.

The observers noted that the control animals were docile, easy to handle, loving. But the experimental animals were aggressive, fought with their handlers, and difficult to control.

What does all this mean to reversing this process?

The only experiment that I can site regarding this issue is one with rats.

In that study, there was also a control vs. experimental group. The control was given raw diet throughout life. At about the mid-life point the animals were euthanized and autopsied. They were found to have no disease or mutation of any kind. All organs were normal and healthy.

The experimental group was started on raw diet, but then switched to cooked foods. They had not yet begun to display symptoms of disease, but one third of the group - when euthanized and autopsied, were found to have degenerative disease already started. Another third were allowed to continue until disease symptoms outwardly appeared. They too were autopsied and documented as having degenerative diseases.

But, get this! The final third were returned to raw diet and allowed to continue until disease symptoms disappeared. When autopsied, they were found to have all signs of disease either gone, or going!

That is great news for us.

I presume, based on this information, that it IS possible to change your DNA. Now, because this is deep-seated in your family, it may take more than one generation to reverse the MD. Certainly, the life of someone born with MD would improve greatly, if given raw diet throughout. If they bore children, the children too would have to follow raw diet throughout, and so forth until all sign of MD was removed from the DNA of your family.

Think you can convince them all to go along? :)

I deal with something in my family line, too, not as serious as MD, but still important. I've already discussed this with my children. They have decided they don't want to be raw. They think I'm asking too much.
