Can anyone give me some names of some raw olive oil that you could get at wild oats or whole foods?
I have been using Spectrum Naturals Extra Virgin Olive Oil First Cold Pressed.
It says on ingredients 100% first cold pressed extra virgin unrefined olive oil.
Is that raw?
Does anyone have any faves?
Thanks,
Lissa

If it says cold pressed, I generally assume it is processed at temperatures considered well within raw ranges, but I've been told that may or may not be true, depending on the manufacturer. I'd check into this more, if I were you. If money is no object, try to buy from the raw vendors, (NFL, eatraw.com, living tree community, etc.) I assume THEY'VE checked into the manufacturers.
If $$$ are an issue, buy the best quality you can afford that says cold pressed on the label.

cold pressed unfortunately not raw, the oil can heat up to 140 degrees with the friction.
So, it must say RAW, and you really do have to chat with the manufacturer.

I wish I can give you the brand name but I KNOW that is was at Whole Foods, it was an olive oil that specifically said the temp on it. It was Cold Pressed, extra virgin organic and on the back label it said that its not heated above 85degrees. I would've bought it but I have to finish my current one. Thank god I am a label reader!! Next time I go there I will check it out again and if you don't see it at your local store maybe you can ask them to stock it.

It is by Napa Valley Organics. It specifically states on the label that it is not heated above 98 degrees in the pressing. Coldpressed/Organic.
Went to Tuesday Morning the other day and even found some organic, imported, stone-pressed olive oil. The full sized bottle was only 10 bucks!! Whoopee!!!

A report just came out that says that many/most cold pressed have been cut with hazelnut oil -- just below the amount needed to put it on the label, but definitely not raw. Cold-pressed isn't necessarily raw anyway. The only one readily available that is absolutely raw is Bariani's. Alissa does sell it if you can't get it locally.

Angelina - you don't have to search: Bariani is THE raw olive oil.

This one is my favorite. They use a special machine that's even better than a centrifuge or press.
Our Italian designed Pieralisi machinery creates no heat and uses only cold water in the olive mash. It uses a dual-phase and a tri-phase decanter for extracting olive oil without the addition of warm water, as the older centrifugal system requires. (http://www.4oliveus.com/our_oils.shtml)

I buy Apollo olive oil from the store. It is organic- Hand-Picked- Stone Milled- Cold Pressed. The manufactures use the old fashioned stones to press out the oil and cold press the crushed oilves with a huge vertical pressing stone. No heat is used at all.
