I want to order a spiral slicer and I'm not sure which one is the best.
I looked on Amazon and I found this one...
World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer
but I've also heard that the Spirooli was good too.
I don't really want the Joyce Chen type. I like the ones that spin horizontal.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Hi Cathy ~ I have the 'World Cuisine' unit, same thing, but I got mine from QVC. I thought that was the same as the Spirooli? Okay - I just clicked on the spirooli link on the Amazon page above, and these are the same unit. I'm guessing there's probably 1 manufacturer and it sells through many different outlets. On QVC it was sold by Fuller Brush. I just checked QVC and it's now World Cuisine for over $35.00. Good price then that you found.

I've also got the Joyce Chen - which gives more of an 'angel hair' size noodle. Much smaller than the unit above.

You can't go wrong with the World Cuisine - I've had mine since my low carbing days, probably 10 years and it's still like brand spankin' new. The only thing I have a wee bit of difficulty with is removing the blade. It tends to want to stay locked in place. I have to give it a push from the back of the blade, down at the bottom where it clicks into place and that will usually get it to release.

It's a fun gizmo to use!

I'm very close to finally ordering a spiral cutter. I really wanted a saladcco but they aren't available over here so I seem to be having to order the Lurch!

I took Deb's advice and ordered the QVC model and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I got it back when it was ten bucks cheaper -- but even at the new price it's totally worth it! VERY sturdy, I use it all the time and expect years and years of use out of it...... if you can get the same model cheaper at Amazon I highly recommend this model!

I've been thinking about getting this Benriner (http://www.amazon.com/Benriner-Cook-Spiral-Vegatable-Slicer/dp/B00012F3R2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I23A98743PWKNY&colid=7UACS0D3G72J). We haven't gotten around to getting it yet though.

Happy early Birthday present to YOU Cathy! I think you'll really be happy with your purchase.

When I make zucchini (or yellow squash is equally yummy, sometimes I mix both - pretty!), I like to let them air dry most of the day (around 6 hours). I spiralize them onto a tray with a kitchen towel and spread them out and set that on the counter to air dry.

Sometimes I like to make a little marinade of 1T olive oil and 1T Tamari (or Nama Shoyu but Tamari is so much cheaper). Whisk well and stir the zucchini noodles to coat well. This really wilts them down after they've been marinading an hour or two.

You'll find your favorite way of having them :)

Thanks Deb, that sounds yummy, and thanks for the tip!!
I can't wait till our garden starts producing and I will have so much squash and zucchini to eat :)
Have you tried other veggies like sweet potatoes, or anything else?
Thanks again!!

I've done beets and butternut squash (the top part, not the bottom where the seeds are). They spiralized beautifully! I would imagine sweet potatoes would as well. I've read others s'ing cucumbers, but I haven't tried those.

Yes - won't it be nice to have garden produce ~ loving sigh ~

I just placed an order for the spiralizer on amazon.com. Thanks for sharing the link, Deb. I never would have known where to find one without your help! I'm so excited to start making zucchini pastas!

Georgina, I hope you can find one where you live.

Hey-Hey! That's great breathless! Yes - I just saw that today on Dara Dubinet's site and thought that was a good price. Gotta love the free shipping too - otherwise that would have been probably another $8 at least. Woot!

Say - and I read on your other post that you're intimidated by sprouting. I'd be happy to help you with that. It really *is* easy-peasy!

Post back when you get your spiralizer and make you some pasta!

Oh - a *TIP* when buying zucchini or yellow squash to spiralize. Get them as straight as you can. Much better to get straight ones then curved. They do a lot better as far as lining up on the spiralizer.

Deb, thanks for the tip on the zucchini. I'll look for straight. It will be easier with the zucchini than the yellow squash.

Yes, I would love for you to help me with sprouting. Should we start a separate thread?

Wow - does that really sell for $150 new? That seems awfully expensive?

I haven't used it MI Roman - but clicking on and enlarging the picture, I wonder if that would make the zucchini noodles larger than one would care for?

With the spiralizer - the size they come out is about the max I care for. In fact, some times I'm in the mood to have them smaller, then I'll use the Asian spiral slicer, which is more like an angel hair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for making Raw Zucchini Pasta, November 30, 2011

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this little device! I use it in my raw cooking (and at times cooking) when I make noodles with zucchini and yellow squash - It makes the most amazing veggie "Pasta" that I cook at times (if I want warm noodles) or use in a salad. I also love using the curly option for sweet potatoes! Just make sure you get the curly blades. Mine has two versions - a larger size for just slightly bigger than spaghetti and a thinner one for angle hair size pasta. I scored one for myself and another for my mother at the thrift store. If I see another one I'm getting it for my sister! This is so much easier than using a spiralizer!!!

* ive noo idea about this machine . but i do know about a decade ago i bought a presto hot air popcorn popper and presto coffee pot and theyre both very well made long lasting things . so i might buy this used one by me on craiglist where the owner says its still un used / brand new in box for 20

Hey - how about that? I *love* those reviews on Amazon! They're so informative and have helped me make purchase decisions many times.

For $20 - new in box, doesn't seem you can go wrong m.r.!!

Hmmmm.... I wonder if this is really as good as a spiralizer, MR.

Why does it say it's easier to use than a spiralizer -- what's the difference between the two?? This makes me a little suspicious, is all.....

if it's anything like one I had years ago then it probably is easier - but only minimally.

I had one of these many moons ago before I discovered raw and it was fab. I gave it to my sister when she had her son cos I thought it would be a fun way for them to prep veg together. I can highly recommend.
