Hi, everyone!

I have been raw off and on for the past four years, but in constant pain for five. The only time I didn't have the pain was (yeah, you guessed it) after being raw for two weeks three years ago. Somehow, I fell into believing that the raw lifestyle was too hard for me to keep up, long term. So here I am, worse than I've ever been, pain-wise, and going 100% raw again, hopefully for life!

I'd like to challenge the doctors, nurses and medical professionals on the forum, and also the "old" raw foodies to see if anyone else has had what I've been suffering with. I'd love to hear that some of you have been where I am, and that raw cures it! :-)

It started five years ago with just having pain in my legs (hips to feet, joints AND muscles) upon getting up from a chair or the couch. My first few steps were so painful that it'd take me a couple seconds to stand up straight and walk normally. Went to all the regular, usual docs and in Dec. 2010, I had a discectomy of L4/5. I'm a horse trainer and have been bouncing around on horses for over 35 years! The disc "reherniated" three weeks later (the pain came back). In May of 2010 I had a fusion of L4/5, with a titanium cage and three screws put in my back. The pain was back in six weeks. Now my surgeon wants me to go for the "big fusion", ie: putting two more rods and four more screws into my back. I went to look for more opinions in September of 2011.

I've been told by four doctors since then that my disc was never the issue, but that they can't figure out what's wrong with me. Literally. One guy called me a "mystery wrapped up in an enigma". Its not fibromialgia, lupus, lymes, osteoarthritis, RA, or anything else they can test for. All my blood work is normal.

Now I have pain in my WHOLE BODY that is worst when I wake up in the morning, with my hardly being able to walk. I have cold sweats at night (probably menopause) and a constant sniffly nose. The bottoms of my feet are sore in the morning and I'm always exhausted, unless I have some coffee or diet coke. I take oxycodone in order to ride and work around the barn but don't worry - I hate the stuff and successfully came off all my meds this summer, six weeks after my last surgery. My pain is still there even with the oxy and I take just enough to get through the day.

I'm now on day five of being 100% raw, and just this morning *think* I felt a little better getting out of bed. I'm hoping that being raw will rid me of all my ailments, and then I will wean myself off the oxy again and continue with a 100% raw lifestyle. I was just wondering (I've searched the archives pretty well) if any of you had undiagnosed body aches and pains before going raw, and if being raw fixed you up. :-) Any and all success stories are welcome and appreciated!

The pain you are describing resembles mine (plus I have many more symptoms). I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, which there is no test for. I always come back to raw as via an elimination diet I found I was intolerant to wheat/gluten, dairy (and any animal products), beans, potaotes, and now I am reintroducing night shade, which thus far *knock on wood* have all been "cleared". That pretty well explains why raw was helping my condition. Being in the community and commiting to the diet helps me to research and find lots of yummy options that suite my dietary needs. I hope you feel better soon!

Hello Raindeer,

I hope you are feeling better. I do have Lupus and became raw to help with my last flare. That was 2/2/2012 and I feel sooooooo much better. Everything bad seems to have cleared up. I will just suggest that in addition to eating raw you may want to take a look at your mattress. I had the feet and back pains along with everything else and switched to a tempurpedic mattress and it made a hugh difference. I also am sleeping through the night with out the night sweats now (I am 48).

Stick with it and I hope you feel results to keep you going!
