I have bought some Chia seeds today. I have no idea what to do with them.
Can anyone give me some ideas?
Thanks

You can soak them in about 3x water and they make a gel. You can keep that gel in the fridge for a couple of days and use it as a thickener in smoothies, pudding, or just eat it with a little sweetener of your choice. You can also grind it up and use it in place of flax seed in a lot of recipies.
You can also add it unsoaked to smoothies for a crunch.
My favorite thing is to use it in energy bars. Process: soaked dates, mixed nuts, chia seed, coconut, cacao, sweetener (optional). Firm in the fridge. Delish!!

I love those little seeds but be aware of the calorie and fat content.
I blend them with almond milk, vanilla, 2 dates let it sit and makes a great pudding. You can make chocolate with raw chocolate. I have made a lemon with lemon juice , dates, and lemon zest. You can add them to smoothies or salads. They are yummy.

I bought some at the health food store yesterday, and I was going to try to sprout them like I do clover seeds. I soaked them overnight and wound up with the gel you spoke of. I looked for a youtube video of how to sprout chia seeds and the only thing I found quickly, was the old chia pet commercial. With chia pets you soak the clay chia pet then spread the seeds on it. Unless somebody has a better idea, I am going to soak a piece of cardboard and spread the seeds on it.

It's great. I used chia seeds for the first time last night. I let them soak for about half an hour in almond milk (I think) and mixed in some cocoa and agave nectar to make it a pudding. There are a bunch of recipes online.

So last night I got out a plastic lunch tray, cut a piece of cardboard to fit it and filled the tray with water. This A.M. I drained the water, spread some chia seeds on half of the cardboard and some flax seeds on the other half. Then I took another piece of cardboard and placed it on top to hold in the moisture. My plan is to take off the top cardboard and mist the seeds with water twice a day. I'll let you know what happens in a few days.

a terra cotta planter bottom in a dish that's slightly larger. You pour water into the dish, the terra cotta soaks it up and delivers the right amount to the seeds. Voila!
Also, chia fresca is delish! Chia seeds (about a tsp) in about 10 ounces water, little lemon juice, little honey to sweeten (or not, not necessary). I like "chewy" drink things, like smoothies and this drink, so it's good to me. If you don't like the idea of solids in your drink, this wouldn't be palatable.

Also I ground some flax seed in with some of my green juice and I didn't care for the texture of that at all.

I put this in another thread I started, but why won't the seeds turn into a gel? They are just floating on the bottom as seeds. There are some with a purplish gel on them, but that is about it? They are not past the expiration date on the package...

The only thing I can think of is that the people who sold you the seeds sent you the wrong seeds. What do they look like. Are the mostly black and sort of flat?

So this is what I ended up with. They took a long time to get going. Probably because I didn't soak them at all to start with. I just put them on the wet cardboard and sprayed them morning and evening. The flax seed sprouts looked pretty good to start with but I had them covered with cardboard and most of them stuck to the lid and ruined the photo op. I am going to keep watering the chia sprouts for a while longer and see if they turn into greens that are worth juicing.

You might even want to try Salba after you've tried Chia.
Salba has extensive documentation proving it is Anti-GMO and superior to Chia.
You can even get 4 Free Salba (or Chia if thats all you have) Recipes at www.salbasmart.com from Chef Sal
