Hello,

I am new to the forum and looking for some general advice and recipes. I have been vegan for 15 years now (Since I was 12!) and am starting to transition into a mostly raw diet. I have bought all the fun tools, dehydrator, high speed blender and processor, and have been diving right into the lifestyle.

My main concern, is eating while I am at work. You see, I do not have the regular 9 to 5. I work as a botanist/ biologist, and in my job, that means I could be camping or backpacking for 2 weeks at a time. Other times, I may be in the field for 3 days and home for 3. In the winter I am home more doing office work, so I have lots of time to make and freeze things for the rest of the year.

I have started making some things in bulk and freezing them, like tortillas, breads and bagels, energy bars, etc... but I am yet to determine the success of freezing, or how long this stuff would keep in a cooler once I take it to the field. Do you have any idea of what things could be frozen and would thaw nicely?

Do you have any ideas for how to stay raw while I am in the field? I bring lots of produce, but with no electricity I need to prepare ahead of time. My job is very physical, I often hike 15 miles a day so I need energy with filling meals, not just snacks. Usually for lunch I make a veggie sandwich, and have some seasnax, rawrevs or fruit as snacks when I am hiking.

Why not dehydrate stuff? Most fruits can be eaten dehydrated. I'd dehydrate veggies too. You can always soak them in filtered/spring water to reconstitute them to eat in the field. They'd take less space and be a lot lighter on long hiking trips. You can also soak and dehydrate your own nuts and seeds and make your own raw trail mixes. :)

Hi Rawkin ~ I'm your neighbor just a few hours to the East :)

I wonder if this might work for you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weoWS0NMZ9Y&list=UUi7mbPVJGTG29pUS4lOG4pw&index=4&feature=plcp

That dehydrated soup looks great DebB, thanks.

Sunshine, I do plan on dehydrating snacks and trail mixes, but am hoping for some more recipe ideas for 'meals.' I have a definite snack problem and will just keep eating those! I need ideas for lunches and dinner, since I already do fruit and buckwheat groats with nutmilk for breakfast most days in the field.

Keep in mind, I do have a cooler, so some refrigeration needed is ok, I just have to plan on eating those things first before my icepacks melt.

Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming please!
