I have read the sticky about detox so I know that it's normal and will pass, but are there any tricks to making it easier. I feel very awful. It's only day 2? Is it possible that it's actually the flu and not detox? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LOL, well, my detox happened all in one night if that makes it any better. It was a horrible night, but just one night.

gradually easing into raw can slow detox. Cold turkey right away usually makes detox stronger/harsher. Just keep telling yourself that it will pass. You already know that it will. It CAN feel like the flu, Oh yes it can. You're body is trying to get rid of all that stuff so it's gotta leave somehow in some way. Leaving your body feeling weak and sick in the meantime.
The end results will be worthwhile. :woot:

Oh my yes, it can feel like the flu. A few things you can do to help is to drink lots of water, enema or colonic, hot/cold showers (alternating the two every few minutes), and MUCH rest/sleep. It WILL pass, and afterwards you'll feel like a million bucks ;).

I am going on 4 months and wierd stuff still happens.
Anyone have grain sand type of stuff come out of the eyes??????????
Every time I go raw I get that.

It could be also the flu. If you have a fever, for sure if not, then only detox. To smooth the symptom, you could do steam vegetables at night. Do also green smoothie, they help to reduce the symptoms. It will get better, hang in there.
This is for the best, hope you feel more comfortable soon.

I didn't notice any detox symptoms. But I DID have a chest infection when I started so I may have just dismissed detox symtoms as related.
I'm quite slim (despite gaining a few extra pounds over christmas), young and ate pretty well before (mostly vegan, a lot of raw veg). So I suppose my detox period was probably brief.

Yesterday went well until I had low blood sugar (60) in the evening. Maybe I need to only use my basal insulin now. :) I had vomiting in the middle of the night. I did have a horrible diet for most of my life. If I can reverse my diabetes, the detox will be well worth it.

Did you drink a lot of diet soda?
When i quit diet soda the withdraw was bad.

Yes, I drank around 3 diet drinks a day. I am still suffering from the headache, but today is looking up. A couple of low readings, but then I just eat a piece of fruit. I can tell that I am detoxing, so the light at the end of the tunnel is keeping me going. I slept 10 hours last night.

Maybe I was just late on detoxing.
It's day 11 for me (though the first few days weren't 100% they were just easing into it so it's only day 7 of 100%)
At first I had loads of energy but last night for some reason I slept for 15 hours! Completely out for the lot of it, woke up very late afternoon wondering what on earth was going on.
I've felt kinda achy and lousy all day and sleepy. I have less enthusiasm and my mood's dropped.
Maybe it's just due to oversleeping. I should have set an alarm.

I found that it was an on and off process; but when it was on it was amazing. The off periods were a bit of a struggle but got less and less over time.

I've had detox start up in the second week of a fast..... it sounds to me like this might be what's happening -- achey and sleepy and feeling blue are all symptoms I get, too (better than a headache, though!)

Day Five and still detoxing, but last night I felt great. I look forward to the headache being gone. The nausea comes and goes. I'm 100% and I figure I need to give my body time to heal from what I have been putting into it. Still, soooo worth it.

Personally, I didn't get my first detox symptoms until 30 days of being 100% raw, and I was very weak, very runny nose, didn't want any food and water was even a chore, headaches, achy all over...just very bad flu symptoms. I was sick in bed for 10 days.
I've been eating raw now for over 8 years and have had at least 3 major detoxes during the first 4 years. One of my major detoxes was very scary for my husband as I got pneumonia and was in bed for about 10 days. I used to smoke and so am pretty sure the pneumonia cleared out my lungs. I haven't had any medicine, drugs, or pills in over 10 years. I was so bad that my hubby was practically begging me to see a Dr. and get antibiotics...but I believed in my body and now I"m healthier than ever.
In the past 4 years, I haven't had any major detox, just very minor detox here and there.

I guess it would make sense that your body would continue to detox even after being raw for so long because of environmental toxins that get into our bodies. I hadn't thought of that. I thought once I was done, I would be done. On a happy note, I just took my morning blood sugar reading and it was 95. I almost cried. I have been diabetic for about 8 years. On insulin for 2 years. I am amazed at how fast eating raw has stated to change my body. WOW!

Headachey and feeling rubbish! Slept for a ridiculous amount of time again.
Well at least I know it's detox.
Is this the sort of thing you go through whenever you fast too? I've been reading up about fasting and definitely want to try a short one to start me off once I've finished the March challenge and then a long one when I move our of my flat. I'm moving back to the country and will be between jobs for a little while so I wont have anything too demanding. Plus I'm so used to city life that I'm worried I'll feel detached and bored in the sticks. It'll be a good way to make boring into relaxing.

That sounds like a solid plan. I can't fast or I would try that as well. Maybe I will be able to in the future. Right now I still need insulin, but who knows.... :) Have a great day. :)

Thanks Raw Angel Mom!! I am feeling better mostly, but I have sore muscles now. I have definitely earned this detox though lol. My numbers are really good, but I noticed not after green smoothies. I tried to add some protein powder so that maybe my sugars wouldn't spike after the smoothies, but I still had a spike. If I take my insulin before a smoothie I don't have the spike, but my goal is to get rid of at least the before meal injections. I will keep trying to figure it out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Detox is very personal and can get bad. I changed overnight to 100% raw and didn't get my first detox until after the first 30 days. It was very bad flu-like symptoms and it lasted for 10 days. I was very weak, achy, and went through several boxes of kleenux.
About once a year after that, for the next 3 years, I would get a very bad detox for about 10 days again. It would lay me out and I thought I was dying too.
The 4th year I was raw, I went through a bad case of pneumonia...it lasted a little over 2 weeks and my hubby was practically begging me to see the Dr. and take an antibiotic.
The last major detox I went through was in the 5th year of raw...and it was a very bad skin reaction. After suffering for over 2 weeks, I finally saw a Dr. The Dr. was very worried and prescribed me a very strong medication that I was supposed to take 3 times a day. I had a flesh eating bacteria that was taking over my whole body. I was scared but I haven't taken any pills, medicines, or drugs in the last 10 years so I wasn't about to start now. I had to believe in the power of my body. Luckily, I cleared up and am very healthy.
Yes, eating right and healthy put me through some major detox....but my body is now clear and very healthy I haven't had any detox in the last 3 years.

Wow Smiley!! How scary that last bout must have been for you. I am so glad that came out alright. I am really only have trouble with muscle pain right now. I think because I am diabetic my symptoms of detox came on much more quickly. My sugars started dropping like crazy. I still need to figure out the green smoothies though. They put my sugars up too high. hmmm. I tried adding raw protein powder but it didn't work. I will keep trying.

^ As scary as detox can be imagine how much more damage all these toxins would do if they carried on being stored up in your body.
I got some good sleep today. Haven't been eating much or even drinking much. Going to go to the supermarket and pick up some fresh food which might enthuse me a little.

There's the spring equinox coming up as well - some people start spontaneously detoxing before the equinoxes. I've been eating high raw for months now (funny how it's easier to stick to it as soon as you stop keeping track of time and forget all about percentages, lol), and I seem to be going through a big detox at the moment. Luckily it's not causing any uncomfortable symptoms - let's just say I'm drinking loads at the moment! ;o)
I get sleep in my eyes every time I detox too, it's a funny symptom but I kinda like it as it feels a bit like being a kid again!
Hang in there, PansyLo, but don't forget to drink enough - sleep is very important but you also have to drink lots to flush all those toxins out of your body! Best of luck with it! :cheer:

^ You're best not taking pain killers or anything.
Maybe a hot bath then sleepy tea and a hot water bottle would help?
I'm not sure what else really. There's not much you can do for muscle pain but let it pass.

Thanks Pansy!! Rough night. I am now trying to make it through the day teaching 14 and 15 year olds. Maybe it's a good day to show a film clip. Ugh
