Hello I am brand new to the forum and I was wondering, what is the best way to be secussfull while doing a juice fast for 30 days? My biggest worry about fasting is failing.... I am going to start my fast in about 4-5 days, I'm waiting for my juicer to come in the mail...

well.. the way that i am successful with it is that just know that it's something i *HAVE* to do, so i do it... i find that i want to chew things a lot.. so i add my fresh juice that i made to the blender & put some ice in it.. it makes it like a slushie/icy or like a snow cone. being able to chew on *something* helps. the only other thing i can say is that you just have to make up your mind that, this is what you're going to do... and follow through with it. make juices that you like.. or can tolerate.. if you don't like green juice, just make some in the morning & chug it down & spend the rest of the time drinking juices that you enjoy. lol get the nasty part out of the way first thing, so you can look forward to the good stuff throughout the rest of the day. :) hope that helps a little!

Fasting needs patience and a lot of determination. Once you know you are full of it, only then start your juice fast. The keypoint is not only to have juice during your fast but to enjoy having it. Try and search for various juices recipes. Look for how to make your glass of juice presentable. Believe me, making a nice attractive glass of juice for yourself and the time you consume in making that, will definitely help you to follow on with your days of juice fast.

I guess you are talking about juice fasting.
This is how I feel about it. Every juice that you drink is a success, every day that you are able to juice is a huge success. Don't set yourself up for 'failure' by only allowing yourself to succeed if you accomplish all the days that you planned to fast. Take it day by day, think positive. A day at a time my friend, a day at a time....
Also what helps me a lot is to tell myself that I can stop fasting whenever I want, just not when I feel bad. I learned that one on this site too and it is very powerful.
Start a log and write everything down, juices you liked and did not like. How you feel and what helps and what doesn't. Hopefully this is a long term commitment to health and you want to do it more often, even if it's ones a year. It will help to be able to read back what happened last time and why.
One more thing, learn what triggers you to eat and avoid it. For me it's watching tv and long car rides. I avoid them, I don't watch tv at all during a juice fast, it makes it more difficult so why should I? On the other hand, reading a book, reading forums about fasting, taking hot baths and walking outside help me continue.
Welcome by the way!!
edit: PS Join us in the monthly fasting thread in this forum. In spring there are usually many people fasting. Lot's of them are very experienced and you can learn a lot from their daily comments. You can also ask whatever question you like.

Good lord girl you must have some super strong teeth if you can chew ice... eek... *shivers just thinking what that would do to my sensitive chompers*
Okay on topic...
For me fasting takes practice, and as redsunset said, patience and a LOT of determination. You have to really, really want it. I fast for spiritual, emotional and health reasons so there is a lot to gain from me doing it and it means a lot to me. That is what has kept me going in the hard times. Although for me the hard times pretty much went away after 3-4 fasts... I rarely get hungry anymore. It's like my body totally knows what it's doing now. So that may help you, if this is your first one, knowing that if you get through this time, it's going to be easier each time from there on out.
Other tips:
Make different juices so you don't get bored
Do more green juices than fruit and you'll have better stabilized blood sugar and less hunger
Drink warm teas like ginger, raspberry leaf, other detoxifying herbs, etc.
Making really spicy veggie juices helped warm me also
If you're struggling, avoid television... I no longer mind seeing food commercials or even being around people eating while I fast, but in the beginning this was VERY hard for me...
Be very, very careful how you break the fast. GO SLOW. Once I lost it and binged.. I broke the fast with some fruit and then went
completely mad and ate THREE plates of food... it was probably the worst I have ever felt in my life. Don't do that. Go slow.
That's all I can think of atm.

Well I started my 30 day juice fast today... I will keep you all posted with my progress, the way I am going about my fast is taking it 1 day at a time, trying to make juices that I like (which is hard) and having support from friends and family.

You should post over on the fasting thread. There is lots of support over there and that is always helpful to me when fasting. Good luck.

Hi Johnny! I, too, started my juice fast yesterday - shooting for 30-60 days. I look forward to hearing your progress, please do share. Have you seen the Joe Cross Documentary http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/ ? Its right on netflix if you happen to have it. Joe is such an inspiration, in the juice fasting community. Blessings on the journey!

I love that documentary!!! What an inspiration! :throwhearts:
thanks for this thread- I just acknowledge that I'm doing my first fast in the march fast thread. I've had it in mind to do water/juice/greens and I love spices so which fruit would be easiest to end the fast with? thanks for any and all advice. F
