View Full Version : Juicing/Weight Loss Question
Hi all,
I am doing my first juice fast and am just now starting day 4. Each of the first 2 days I lost a pound and a half. The third day I lost 2 ounces. Is there a reason weight loss might have slowed down so fast? This is my 1st juice fast and was so excited the first couple days...what gives?
I feel great and am going to keep going regardless, just wondering if anyone knew about "juicing plateaus" - lol.
Thanks!!

The weight you are losing in the first few days of any loss of weight is water loss. weight loss always slows after the initial loss.
Fasting isn't a sensible way to lose weight. It's not meant to be used as a means to lose weight. Weighing yourself every day isn't going to be a helpful way of proceeding. Best thing to do is weigh once a week or even better once a month or better still just throw out those scales and judge by how much looser your clothes are.
The great thing about following a raw food way of eating is that you really don't have to count calories. You just commit to eating raw foods and take it from there; the weight loss just happens as you and you body discover how eating raw makes you feel.
Yeah, I understand all that. And I'm not fasting primarily for weight loss. But it plays in and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not the least bit concerned/upset over it. I wouldn't care if it stopped, I'd still be fasting. But I like monitering what's going on and knowing why it's going on.

Weighing every day is monitoring too closely.
Nah, not true. It's a new thing and I wanna see how it's going. No biggie. You assume I care WAY more than I do.

Nobody who doesn't care makes a note of a 2 ounce weight loss.
Perhaps if you give some more detail of the juices you are drinking then some one else here will be able to answer the question you are asking.
How do you weight yourself and NOT take note of loss/gain?
Just wondering. Is that ok?

When I weigh myself I weigh in whole pounds. 2 ounces is meaningless when you consider the natural fluctuations that take place from day to day. It's months since I weighed myself. I try to go by how my clothes fit and how I feel about myself generally.
My scale gives me pounds and ounces, can't help but notice. Again...lost 3 lbs first 2 days and then it slowed, just curious why. I really don't care...I only want to lose maybe 5 lbs. max anyway. It's really ok, lol.

because weight loss always slows after the initial loss. This is because the initial loss (usually estimated at about 10 lbs but this depends on how much overweight someone is) is water not fat.
Thanks. That's all I needed to hear. :)

I said it in my first response to you.
Yes, as well as other things I felt I needed to reply to. All you needed to say was this part, not the rest. It's all I asked about. I assume it slowed because I really don't need to lose weight and as you said, I lost water weight. Just running it by others. I got my answer, thank you.

Maybe it's hard to tell from the info you gave but it's probable.

that's funny! i'm on my 4th day of my juice fast today, too! xD i haven't weighed myself everyday, though.. i thought about it.. but i thought it'd be best if i just cut back to once a week & let nature take it's course. lol i didn't get the chance to weigh until yesterday.. i'm going to just weigh every week, starting from the 25th.. also going to be taking measurements every week & am logging everything.. how i feel.. what i'm eating.. if i notice any change in my health issues, etc.. :) anyways, congrats on the weight loss & on doing the juice fast. :) cheers to your health! :) also.. how long are you fasting for? :) i'm going to shoot for 4 months. good luck to you! :)

If you drink a gallon of water you will gain 8 pounds...until you pee it off or sweat it off..
That's why your weight can fluctuate so much when you weigh yourself everyday. I would give yourself AT LEAST a week in between weigh-ins!

LOL, I agree... and who has a 'normal' scale that weighs to the ounce? that being said, I weigh myself more often than I should too... but it's mostly a bad habit I'm trying to break.

Almost all digital scales weigh to the ounce, so does mine. It can be encouraging, because it would be frustrating to weigh yourself after a few days of eating great and working out and get the same number, but with a digital scale it may show you've lost half a lb or .8 of a lb and just not quite a lb instead of loosing nothing at all. Obviously going by how you feel is a "healthier" way to look at weight loss, but different strokes for different folks and you have to respect that.
TO THE OP:
Your weight loss is going to slow after the first couple days no matter what. A lot of the weight is water weight. But if you continue to not lose anything in the next days, it means you're adding too much high calorie fruits to your juice and not enough greens. Try using lemon and lime instead of heavy, sugary fruits like mango or berries. Also, some people say that you should dilute pure fruit juices with water.

I am on day 13 of juice fasting. I've lost 11 lbs and was weighing daily as well, This morning when I got on the scale, I had gain 2 lbs. Seeing the scale go down a pound a day can be very
addicting so I totally understand your concern, OP. :)
