PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!
Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!
There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.
And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!
Here's my commitment (when I'm fasting):
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!
This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!
Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?
Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.
I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.
And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!
So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.
I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

Its April!! Spring is definately in the air. I will be fasting for the next couple of days. Since our Sabbath is on Saturday, I thought a Sunday fast would be a great way to start the week :)
I'll probably just start with honey/lemon water and see where it takes me :)

Day 7 water fasting,
I have been detoxing no doubt. I noticed major improvement in my body. I will brake my water fast tomorrow. I wished to be able to continue longer because i can see my body is doing great, but i will do it anyway in a slower past with fruit and juicing. Tomorrow, it will be orange juice that i will drink gently with a tea spoon. You cannot eat normally after a water fast, you need to be gentle since your digestive system is completely shut down. I will try to book a colonic tomorrow if not, i will do it later. It was so helpful to have a colonic on Friday, i felt much better and i noticed much more stuff were releasing from my body.
Anyway. Have a wonderful fast to all of you

I've never done a colonic, but I've heard great things about them. Maybe some day :) Ohh... and I love orange juice!!

More lemon/honey water today. I don't have much produce right now for a fast (I need to keep it for the family to eat too), but I really don't want to eat anything. My body is just not feeling well right now.
So, I'm thinking of lots of water today with some honey/lemon juice mixed in .:)

Congrats Raw Angel Mom on your water fast!!
Today is day 16 for me. Yesterday was pretty hard. I was so busy in the morning running around and only had water. We had a birthday party to go to and i only had time to drink 1/2 liter of some orange/apple/barleymax juice around 1:00. The party was at a restaurant/bar and i sipped on water with lemons. I think i had 4 large glasses lol. Being around food and everyone talking about food was a bit tough. we got home around 7:00 and i was finally able to finish the other 1/2 of my juice. I later on had some herbal tea and that was about it for the day. I didn't want to have anything before bed because i didn't want to be up all night running to the bathroom. Detox hit in last night, had a headache and felt weak. I went to bed thinking about all different kinds of food lol but i made it through!!
I feel great today, have wonderful energy. Had some orange/apple/barleymax juice earlier and im finishing up some Tomato Blend now. Just received some herbs for making allergy teas from Mountain Rose Herbs and wow at the quality. I will definitely be ordering more from them!!!
Happy Fasting everyone!!! :throwhearts:

have NEVER been disappointed . i couldnt rate a company higher . only critique is shipping cost on high side , but the quality / obvious
care they put into products provides the peace of mind making higher shipping worth it
24th hour this fast . these 70 out of the past 90 days fasting has my abdomen headed towards wash board without even doing sit ups this winter

Hello all, it is so wonderful to see everyone successfully fasting.
Today is my second day of my green smoothie day fast. I have to admit the first day was h.e. double hockey sticks but I have made it through day one and I feel great at the start of day two. :woot: I was craving carbs badly and had a headache for most of the day and felt like I was dying. Lol! I guess its going to be a bumpy road because I have been so addicted to bad food for so long.
This morning my smoothie contains a lot of kale, bananas, cantaloupe, and apple.

Hi everyone!! You all are doing so good! Today was great, i felt awesome...Day 18 woo hoo!! I think i have a new favorite juice. Butternut squash/Apple/Cinnamon....Oh it was soo good, tasted much like pumpkin pie YUM!! My other juice that i had today which i also love is "fruit punch" Orange/apple/grapes.
I have been watching a few food documentaries these last couple of days. SWEET MISERY A POISONED WORLD which exposes the truth about aspartame WOW! and HUNGRY FOR CHANGE that talks about the effects of MSG. I have seen so many and now I have a whole new list of documentaries that i want to watch. I love these kinds of movies they are such an eye opener and an inspiration to stay on the "Raw" lifestyle and to just get healthy!

I'm fasting on water with some lemon in it and will hopefully be able to detox and feel healthier and happier about myself.
Best of luck to everyone else who is fasting! :D

It's so great to see people doing fasts of all kinds! Yay!
Today is day three for me on my green smoothie feast. Day two was okay, I did have headaches again and felt tired but it has since all passed and I am starting day three off with a bang!! How often should we be having bowel movements, though? I have only had 1 in the past day. I guess on my SAD diet I was going like five times a day also because I was binge eating I had more to expel.
Heres to day three and to the success of all of you!! :throwhearts:

Hey everyone. Starting a fast here. Eased into it yesterday with bananas and smoothies all day. Now I've water fasted half of today and am just barely starting to take in some juice. I lost track of how many fasts I've done now but this has to be ten or eleven. It's amazing how much easier it has gotten. I'm not sure how long I'm going to go this time, we will see. I already feel the benefits.

I am on day 3 of a juice fast. May break it tomorrow with something gentle in the evening because a family friend is taking my family and I out for tradition. Then I will pick it back up again on Easter. So far, feeling good. I have mixed energy levels but the highs are worth the effort.

Finishing up day 1 here....
I started making a large amount of juice all at once this time (no clue why I hadn't done this before, I got the idea from my friend) and it's so much easier. I was making 1-2 cups at a time and washing my juicer a million times a day before, lol. Now I just keep my juice in a big pitcher in the fridge and keep sipping from it all day.
I'm having a little detox and am pretty tired but happy to be fasting. It might just be a short one this time because I have a lot going on and am starting a new job in a week or so. But we'll see. Maybe I will get some energy out of nowhere and decide to keep going.

Am I the only one fasting right now? Usually this place is far more active.
Day 2... I am thinking about breaking the fast though. I am really confused. For some reason my heart just isn't in it this time. Will fasting only a couple days at a time still give benefits? I'm thinking that might be more practical for me in the future. Sometimes such a long time goes by between periods where I am able to devote weeks to fasting.

Morning All: Easter morning and it is pretty chilly outside with possible snow on the way, hate to hear that because we have had a great spring so far, unusually warm for central Canada. Day 5 today of a juice fast for me and doing a bit better this morning. I think my body was having a difficult time adjusting to the lack of carbs and I have been really crabby so I am guessing my blood sugar and blood pressure have been all over the map these past few days. I fasted 22 days in January in a row, a mixture of water and juice and then a few days one or two at a time since then but now I hope to do a good long one, we'll see what the body can handle. I wanted to do a 40 day fast the last long stretch but my miserable body symptoms got in the way and I finally had to throw in the towel so I am hoping this time for a better outcome. The positive in all of this is that detox was easier this time so physical symptoms were less but my emotions have been all over the map, much worse than last time.
I am hoping that there will be at least a few of us on this journey this month as it really helps to have support in this journey and a place to come and just swap experiences and know that you are on a journey with others around. Climbing I hope you are still around today.
Have a good day everyone and remember to enjoy the sunshine in your life, and Happy Easter to all.

Glad to have some company this Easter day. I am sipping on some green juice right now and tried it with a lemon as well as ginger, I like the ginger but do not like the lemon in the green so that will be the last time I do that, now I have to choke it back because do not want to waste all the wonderful veggies that went into it.
Good for you climbing for hanging in there with your fast, it is more difficult I find when you are hanging around family that are eating especially if they are not eating raw because the smells are whiffing through the house. My hubby is not raw totally and so I continue to cook for him although he does it a lot himself but still like I mentioned I have a highly defined sense of smell and it does make it more difficult especially in the early days of fasting, later on it does not bother me so much.

Good Morning Fellow Fasters: I had a rough night last night, not much sleep, shivery cold, (I found that I was like that on my last long fast) and body aches all over the place. This morning I just can not get my head around drinking juice at all even fruit so I am taking a page from M.R.s book and sipping on warm lemon water with a teaspoon of honey. Hope I feel better soon, I am already wavering on my decision to do a long fast. If I can hang on until day 10 or so I know I will turn the corner for a while at least. Oh yes forgot to mention day 6 today.

Well, life brought about stress from the death of my husbands nephew and I just fell literally off the wagon. Partly do to stress of it, and then because of hospital and funeral, I just ate what was available. Not an excuse but it goes to show me how I am still that same stress eater. Day 2 for me. I did not escape the headache last night. Right after I wrote the post above about an hour later it came. Looking back it really was pretty awesome. On other fasts my headaches came immediately, then one fast it came at 4 pm then another at 6 pm. , and this time it was well into the eveing before the headache came like 8 pm. So making progress. My stomach feels better today. I did an enema to get rid of some of the gunk dumped into my bowels from yesterday. Now I feel even better. Going to go sip on some green juice or pineapple juice. Haven't decided yet. Have a great day.
Newoutlook92- your doing great.. Day 2 for me. I had a horrible stomach ache yesterday. It's all part of the process. Some days are good some not so good. The longer you fast the better you will feel. I always tell myself that.. Don't know how long this fast will be for me. My longest was 14 days and before that 10. I'm thinking this may be a shorter fast for me but we will see where it goes. Your doing great..

Hey guys, just wanted to say that I broke my fast yesterday but I plan to continue drinking a large amount of juice every day to help the detox process continue at a lesser level and keep my body alkaline until my next fast. I'll be back in a month or two, happy fasting!

Holy detox Batman. Boy did I have some detox last night. If I could have chopped my head off I would have. I had the most horrible headache ever. I layed there in bed on my back trying not to move. But today is a new day and I feel sooooooo good. Got up and ran 4 miles.. Just goes to show you, that stuff can creep up and go just as fast as it came... Anyway day 3 for me. I feel like this will be a short fast do to many outing this weekend including a 5k. Not that I can't fast on a 5k I have done it but all weekend I will be in and out. So I will join the Monday fasters on Monday. However I feel like today may be my last day but you never know... Have a great day everyone..

Hi, everyone! I will be starting a juice fast on Wednesday (the 18th) with a buddy. : )
I feel like I've prepped my body well for it, will phase out coffee and drink solely green smoothies (which I ADORE) beginning Sunday.
I've done a fast before with lots of water and little juice, but I didn't respond well. Maybe I wasn't ready? Are there any pointers that you'd give me before I start? Should I stock up on coconut water? or is that a no-no as it is processed?
Oh - really excited about my new juicer!! I spoiled myself and upgraded from my Breville to an Omega. I love it. LOVE it!!! : )

5 days complete - going to eat 48 hours then start another fast sunday 6pm
happy fasting joyful yogi - in answer to your question of any advice = dont fret when you end a fast short of hoped for distance because to make
serious health progress its going to take a developed habit of years and years of fasting . its like alot of baby steps , then walking , then running etc .
you dont get good at running til you can walk good . thats my outlook any way , thats why i started the weekly monday fasting club outlook .
it dont hurt to fast , and if you do habitually enough through out life theres great great pay off

Hi Everyone. I'm new to the website. I discovered it while researching how to mentally prepare for a fast. I have gained alot from viewing the different threads on here. In just a few hours I am hooked. I am planning a 21+ day fast. I generally strive to fast the number of years i've been alive around my birthday. I'm 36, yet the longest i've ever gone is 34 days a couple years ago. Last year i did 29 1/2 days. I haven't done my b-day fast this year. My b-day is in january so i'm a bit behind schedule, with understandable reason. However, i plan to start my fast tomorrow afternoon or evening. I decided to join the site because i know that i need an strong support system to make it through the fast, especially the first 4 days. I do have a considerable amount of weight to loose (40 lbs.), yet i know that will come off over time. I will be juice fasting so that i will be able to continue to walk and jog daily. I'll probably throw some water days in here and there as well. Yet i crave for the spiritual high and the feeling of lightness that comes after so many days of fasting. So i'm here...any suggestions or words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated.:throwhearts:

Rounding up Day 2, really lightheaded for alot of the day. Woke this morning feeling good, had plenty of energy until about 2 hours ago. : / Just finished butternut/apple/carrot/ginger and I'm ready for more.
Is there a cutoff time for juice before bed? I could go to bed now, but the kids would rebel.
Hope all is going smoothly for everyone else! : )

Day 5 - going strong!
So, the reason that I started my feast was to watch myself...watch my responses to situations and what I reach for to soothe. Let me just say that Days 3 and 4 shed some interesting light on lots of situations/relationships for me.
But...there's more. I knew that this would end up being part of my yoga practice, but I didn't realize to what degree it would be part. At times, I have an almost out-of-body experience, where I'm watching my hands (which are not my hands) washing dishes, I'm watching thoughts fizzle out before they become stories to which I usually overreact, I'm dreaming, yet I'm still moving through my life, but it's not the life that I have when I'm awake.
Does anyone else ever experience this? or am I flying solo? hehehe
Hope everyone has a great day today!

I am detoxing pretty heavy and the other night I was flying around the world like a bird but in my body. I went everywhere and saw my parents and grandparents and friends. I woke up exhausted and it felt so real.

I have heard a lot about the emotional things that happen to people while fasting. I have had post-partum depression before, and that sort of scares me.
I am devoting the next four months, until I wean my little one, just to learn about how to do a fast. You that are fasting amaze me and I wonder how in the world you do it. In the last five days, I have been having smoothies at lunch, but in the morning I have a hot drink with nectarine, ginger, green tea, fresh mint with a squeeze of lemon and ashweghanda. Since having this drink and feeling super, almost young, I am getting really interested to see what the big payoff is going to be. Although I must admit, this morning, I really didn't get my high from my drink, then I started to wonder if it really worked the way I thought or is my body just adjusting to it?
Now, I will just read these posts and learn all I can. Thank you for knowing what I don't and sharing.

I m hear for 1 day only. I started my day with detox tea. I have a green smoothie for lunch. Plenty of water.
Hi Jackie, I am just getting out of my PPD. Well come to find out I have adrenal fatigue. Once I started working on that I feel great. Plus a super amount of greens everyday. I am also cleansing with blended watermelon. Your tea sounds great. Happy Fasting.

Day 7
Boy, I thought the detox on days 1 and 2 was all I'd have. I thought it'd be smooth sailing from there... And, I guess it has been, but today I've had a headache and 2 painful sores have popped up in my mouth. The lymph nodes on my right side have been swollen for a couple of days but haven't been distracting enough to mention until today. Sore throat, right side, and one of the sores in my mouth is on the right, just above my tonsil!
Besides all of that business, it's been so great!! I am focused and full of energy. I'm enjoying the smells of the meals that I make for my family, but I'm not tempted by the food at all. Still watching my hands do all of the work, though. *hehehe*
Have a nice evening, everyone! Hope things are going smoothly for you all...

Hi I'm wild lime fasting as Eowyn aka the White Lady of Ithilien
I'm attempting a 21 day fast. I previously did a 10 day with much success and then on day 11...well not so good. So after some months I am going again, this time longer and stronger. So I have prepped by washing my veggies and keeping them in the fridge. I've assembled my juicer and blender and my jugs that I'll be taking to work are all on the counter so that in the AM i can juice, blend and go. (I dont want to juice tonight because I think by morning the nutrients in the juice will be diminished(?) this is what I've read. Or maybe I can juice and freeze the night before?) The last time I was freelancing from home so it was easy. Now I'm working in an office so I have to rethink how I juice. Also, I'm not looking forward to detoxing while working, which is why I'm starting on a Friday so that I have Sat and Sun to maybe go through my worst cravings...Anyway, I'll keep all updated and keep in mind the commitment above to go One day at a time and choose to stop, but not on a bad day, or at night, or today (I just love that)
Over and out.
Oh! as for juices, I'm starting the morning with cucumbers, red peppers, limes (I need to buy lemons), apples, radishes, and cilantro--maybe a dash of cayenne cause it gets me going. It's one of my favorite and whenever I go heavy on cucumber people always think I've gotten a really great facial. My skin just glows! (32 0z)
Lunch will be a smoothie: papaya, kale, water, strawberries (16 oz)
Not sure about dinner yet. It may be a carrot something though because I'm craving carrots
Okay, heading to bed so I'm up early to juice.

Day 10
Strange smells all day today. Smells of foods that I won't mention here.
What is the verdict on flax seed oil being mixed in to juice? What about Healthy Fasting tea?

Welcome!
I was wondering, what did you learn about mentally preparing for the fast? To me so far it is always just a wave - sometimes it is just like a wave and I can fast while preparing family food, and sometimes I can't even under ideal conditions. It would be nice to learn conscious way.
