I think a lot of times we don't know and this makes it very difficult to proceed.

I don't do it to live longer.
I don't do it to have clearer skin.
I don't do it to lose weight or lower blood pressure or to avoid diabetes and in general I'm not actually doing it for a healthier body although I grant you these may be side effects.

I do it because I "feel" at my best when I am eating raw and when I feel good I can enjoy living more. I can do more things and enjoy them better. Simply put, that is it in a nutshell.

Like the Mystic Tree said above, do it to feel AMAZING beyond your wildest dreams. Do it to have a really balanced non stress lifestyle where most moments are pure bliss to be alive. Do it to get the excitement and enthusiasm of your childhood again. Do it to become the best person you can be. Do it so people feel good around you. Do it for a powerful mind.

The thing is, veganism needs to be done well, so lots of fresh foods grown yourself, especially greens. lf you do certain things that l talk about in my previous posts made over the last 12 months, you will never need be reminded of why you need to be raw ever again.

Try reading the book `survival into the 21st century' by Victoras Kulvinskas. That book changed my life, and it will give you excellent guides as to the best foods to eat for the best health possible. lt is not just a great raw food guide, it is the complete healthy raw lifestyle guide that includes so much. l have probably read the book close to 100 times over the years. lt talks about raw foodism done at the highest level and explains why we should sprout most of our foods and consume wheatgrass juice.

Even if a person doesn't want to live off sprouted foods and grasses, l feel they definitely should be including sprouts as 50% of their diet (minimum) and that some grass juice should be drank at least once a day.

Do it to feel like you are on holiday 24/7. lt shouldn't matter if you are at work (well, maybe not all jobs) or in peak hour traffic, you should feel like you are on a holiday because life is so fulfilling. Doing chores is fun when you are raw.

Odd but true. I have discovered this enjoyment in chores with in the last two weeks.
I now do the dishes/dish washer like twice a day. I always left that for my wife.

Yeah, raw fooders never leave any dishes around because they like keeping busy.

I'm feeling much better and I appreciated very much the kind words and words of wisdom. I made it through the blues and cooked food cravings and did not eat anything other than raw! :woot:

I do it because i want to be the best version of myself, because physical health influences every aspect of my life, including how i feel, how i think, how well i handle my challenges and how effective i am at my job. I do it because i want to enjoy life and live it to the fullest and because i want to be strong and live long.
I do it because i love myself. I respect myself and think i deserve better than clogged arteries, low resilience, shortness of breath, depression and illness.
I think we all have unique personal reasons, but also general reasons as to why we are drawn to a raw lifestyle.

Best of luck to you in your future trials!

Hey Walnutty!

Wow! I can TOTALLY relate!!!! I've been around here since 2007. I've been off and on, I've been totally raw, I've been mostly raw. I've asked myself the same thing from time to time. I actually think its good to ask yourself that. Why should I make everything from scratch raw when it's easier to just go buy the SAD version at the store? Why should I make the effort to stay raw?

I always come to the same conclusion: because I'm WORTH it!!!! I eat this way for ME. I'm not trying to live up to anyone's idea of 100% rawness. I answer to my God and myself alone. But, I've found through the years that I'm still here because it's become part of me as much as anything else in my life. It's a very special gift that I give myself each and every day. I find inspiration to stay with it with exciting new recipes, I look at photos of my food when I first began eating raw and how I've grown as a raw chef, I re-read Alissa's books so many times that I know what page things are on!!! LOL!!!!!

Believe me, the moment passes...just don't give up! :-)

Things can be absolutely amazing on raw, but when you hit it real hard and eat the most potent foods possible, the most amazing transformation occurs. Does anyone find themselves always looking at the sky? lf you aren't wanting to always look at the sky, you are missing out. Since l have been raw things look really really different. Not only is a 6th sense activated, but your visuals become amazing and it's like living in some type of heavenly place. When l go out side l see clouds with hundreds of bring lights shining through like bright glittering diamonds (it's the sun behind the clouds) and tunnels...it is a complete trip and l feel l could touch the clouds and walk up through the tunnels. lt is like magic, but it is no hallucination or floaty sensations, it is a really grounded feeling of physical well being with a mind (6th sense in over drive). l am in paradise every day and have to pinch myself when l see this stuff. lt is like l could leave my body and actually travel up through those tunnels, sometimes l feel l am close to being able to do it.

Along with all this amazing stuff, you become like a machine. Nothing wears you out or bothers you too much.

l love your posts and the enthusiasm you have. You are the person which made me appreciate gourmet raw because l see the pleasure it brings you, but it's more than that, it's like you are part of a fun cultural club where you collect nice little artworks for eating. l understand the attraction now.

I know this isn't possible for everyone, but the best thing I ever did that got me on course and kept me there (and got my kids--TEENS--there also) was to get rid of my refridgerater and stove/oven. Easy peasy since then.

dblvsgrg,

That would be wonderful! OR to live like the Monarch's and just walk out your front door to pick your food!
