So I have been on the pill for about three years now. I really hate the fact that I put artificial hormones in my body every day and I have been thinking about going off the pills by my next doctors appt. I have been looking into more natural forms of birth control and was wondering what options people had. I have read about monitoring your cycle and having sex around it, but this is unrealistic for me. Having the possibility of a child is NOT an option right now so Iv been looking at natural/organic condoms and lubes. I never liked condoms and Im sure they are covered in chemicals. Any thoughts?

^ It's a nice thought but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable using the natural contraceptive methods I've heard of. They don't seem all that reliable.

Having a child right now for me is definitely not an option and while I'm not totally keen on changing my hormones unnaturally it seem to me to be the surest option. I don't think contraceptive ingredients are really all that bad.

Really? LMAO! They're put in your body to kill something.

For the OP ~ Abstinence?

^ They don't kill anything.

They change the way your body works slightly through hormones that naturally occur in your body anyway. It justs shift the levels so that your body acts in a way that wont get you pregnant. Eg.*by stopping your body from performing*

There ain't anything dying lol.

I'm not saying it's a natural process, * with your hormones can sure mess things up in your body (hence why there's often side effects) but it sure beats getting pregnant or abstaining from sex!

I personally don't have any side effects from my birth control. It's not ideal but I'm happy with it.

I found the contraceptive pill way too invasive for my body. I had so many negative side affects that I got off it and will never take it again! For me and my partner we have been using condoms for all our relationship and this works for us, sure they arn't the most natural thing either but I think they are much better than ingesting the pill. I tend to think that eating raw and taking the pill could even make you more susceptible to negative side affects, or even affect the detox process? That's just a thought though... I know people who use the method of monitoring your cycle, checking temperature etc and it works for them! I myself, am not game to try it, as like yourself.. are not in a place in my life to have a child..

^ I found the pill awful too.

I gained weight, it made my migraines worse (I can't even believe my doctor let me go on the pill when I had such severe migraines).

I was on the injection which is known for having few to no side effects. I'm actually not on it at the minute though I keep meaning to make an appointment to get it redone.

I'm not sure how it would effect a raw lifestyle.

Any time you put poison in your body, you're killing something. You may THINK it's doing what you say, but, it's killing something. You may not be experiencing side effects now (to your knowledge) yet, keep on taking them.. you will.

I am on NuvaRing. Works great, but I've been worried about its effectiveness since starting the raw food diet. Will detoxing through eating raw actually detox the birth control? I mean, it's meant to get rid of toxins, and the birth control medicine is essentially hormones, so will eating raw render my birth control useless?

Ofcourse I cannot say for your question, but I can share my own experience. I take bio-identical hormones (progesterone, estradiol and testosterone) and I have not found eating raw to cancel them out. Again - just my experience with them. All the best wishes!

I said my contraception doesn't have any side effects for me. It doesn't.

I don't use the pill. Haven't since that one occasion when I was 17.

"It's killing something." can you specify exactly what it's killing or how it's poison? It's just hormones, yes hormones will cause your body to change things around and the effects of that are not always beneficial or healthy. In uncontrolled amounts thay can do damage (if you overdose on lettuce it'll do you damage) but to say that regular controlled amount are poison without something to back your claim up is a bit much.

Sometimes you have to prioritise. For me effective birth control is extremely important. I'm young, I don't yet have a degree, I don't have any sort of stable home or income and most importantly I do not want a child.

Being an artist I come into contact with toxic substances constantly, soem of them are particularly harmful. I'm not going to give up my career too. Some things are harmful but you've got to prioritise what's most important to you.

Really? Uh, duh! Pretty sure you've always got to prioritize what's most important to you.

^ Well thanks for being incredibly rude and patronising when I've been trying to have a serious discussion.

It's been totally unhelpful.

I'm considering my part in the discussion over.

Have you looked into the option of getting an IUD (intrauterine device)? There are two types - one with a low dose of artificial hormones and one entirely without. The design is supposed to prevent sperm and egg from meeting. You don't have to have had a child to have one, and they're actually the most economical birth control choice in the longterm - you can keep the non-hormonal one in for up to 10 years. You just go a little monthly check on yourself, and you're good to go.

I have one - got it when I was 24, I've never had a child, and it works very well. My partner and I can't even tell it's there.
