I'm going to post my olive oil, ACV, raw garlic and nutritional yeast recipe later...because I don't know measurements...but people ask me all the time.
I came up with this for a raw kale salad and it is a hit with non raw people.
Hi Juli ~ This is Snowdrop's recipe. I absolutely love it. I actually use it more often as a dip. It's so blasted good! I've tweaked it, but the URL at the bottom will take you to the original recipe.
Snowdrop's ranch dressing/dip with my tweaks
Ingredients
Soak:
1 1/2 c nuts (cashew or mac or combo) soak them for a creamier dressing (1-2 hr is fine, then drain)
and 10 deglet noor -or- FOUR medjool dates (reserve soak water to thin dressing if needed). Blend these well in blender and then add:
1 1/2 c filtered water for blending (can use date soak water too)
3 T lemon juice (translates into approx 1/2 lemon)
2 T cider vinegar
2 T evoo
3 T agave (omit agave if using dates to sweeten )
2 cloves garlic
1 t garlic pwd
3 t onion pwd
1 t dill
2 t sea salt
1/2 t basil
and to add after it's done:
1/4 c finely minced parsley (I typically omit the parsley cuz I add tons o' dill)
1/3-1/2 bunch of organic fresh chopped dill, can use stems
Directions
makes 3.5 cups (depends how much water you use)
vitamix blend all ingredients till creamy and smooth except the last 2,
then once blended, stir in the last 2 ingredients. Thickens in fridge.
thin to desired consistency if using as a dressing- or toss into wet lettuce leaves as is.

I don't use precise measurements for my go-to dressing since I usually wing it depending on how many people want salad and how long it'll sit in the fridge (which isn't very long), but it's:
1 part EVOO
1 part white wine vinegar (I'd guess 3-4 T each)
Using the amount of oil/vinegar above, I use at least the following, depending on my mood:
1/4 t ground mustard
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t onion powder
1/4 t sea salt
1/4 t black pepper
I just pour it into an old agave syrup bottle, shake it up and splash onto my greens. It'll last a couple of days in the fridge before getting funky.

Here is my nutritional yeast dressing that goes awesomely on kale, but can be used on any lettuce!!!
EVOO 1/2 cup + 3 Tablespoons
ACV 3 Tablespoons
Nut. yeast 8 Tablespoons
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Pepper to taste
water 1/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons
Garlic 5 big gloves
Start by mashing garlic into a paste. Cut up fine, pour about a tablespoon of salt on top and turn the knife parallel to the garlic. Press down on the blade to press into the cutting board. (If you are not familiar with this technique, either youtube or make it as fine as possible) If you do not use this method, you may need to add more salt.
Put garlic in medium size bowl. Add oil, then wisk in vinegar, nutritional yeast then water. If you want it thicker, don't add as much water.
If you are making a kale salad, I add fresh basil, pine nuts, cranberries and red onion. Dressing needs to sit on kale for at least an hour before serving. Awesome!!!

Yum, I love all these ideas!
Here's my favorite dressing, which rocks on kale that's been massaged with EVOO.
Add:
Soy sauce (or aminos)
agave
ACV
lots of nutritional yeast
more EVOO if necessary
sweet + salty+ tart + cheezy.... yum!
With my blender out of commission this week, I'm having lots of salads, so thanks! Think I'll try that ranch today....

I think they either put crack cocaine or a high amount of B5 in nutritional yeast, because I get an immediate good feeling when I eat it. Wow...I can put it on anything.
Querty, your dressing looks yummy.
Deb;
printed yours and will try
M..R. I typically use the Whole Food brand since it's the cheapest. Have never heard of lewis labs.

OMG..... MR I already have such a serious nutritional yeast problem that I can't possibly imagine a brand that tastes EVEN BETTER!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the 80's I was taking some incredibly delicious and peanut-buttery tasting "brewer's yeast".... is there a difference between that and "nutritional yeast"?

The yeast in nutritional yeast is not active
brewers yeast does have an active yeast
if you have candida you need to stay away from b.y. and it's controversial whether of not n.y. is o.k.

because its grown on beets is way they put it . cant recall right now what common b.y. is grown on , maybe molasses ?
and i just happened to be at store saturday reading label on can of lewis labs and it said 100% yeast with no additives
while including B12 in its nutrition label at like 15% of rda per tsp , where as i was under impression B12 didnt naturally occur
in ny and always had to be added . so its something i have to get up to speed on

I thought yours was nutritional yeast not brewers. so you are saying that brewers yeast is cheesy tasting? Have you compared it to nutritional yeast? I thought brewers yeast was a slight bit bitter.
Nutritional yeast is grown on beet and cane molasses....fyi

mines always been nutritional yeast . and im not sure on exactly what each ny maker uses as their medium ,
i was just going by what i read years ago from lewis labs where they state themselves to vary from other
ny growers in that they use a sugar beet medium as if others dont . and from reading on topic years ago i
dont believe sugar beets were a popular medium in the ny growers circles , like your saying molasses - thats
been traditional amongst vast majority and lewis labs varied from that which in their statement has been
what makes their product taste better

I've never tried a fruit-based dressing..... think I might give this one a shot though.... orange and EVOO and salt and garlic sounds pretty awesome!
[Okay, I just had this over a spinach-avo-tomato-sprout salad and it's lovely! I like it because it's very flavoful, and you can really drench your salad with it without worrying about using too much oil... I'll definitely be making this again -- thanks for posting!]

ok im on a fast so wont eat but i bought a can of the lewis labs yeast today because its been a few years since used it as i was using / experimenting with some other brands .
and i tasted about the size of a dimes worth to rate taste = it tastes like those little 1"x1" square cracker things called TIDBITS that come in the rectangular box .
cost me 13 for 32 oz can , it has no additives and each tsp contains 5% daily recommended B 12 , a surprise to me as previously ide read no b12 in yeast naturally and its added
from another source in most brands . something i must read more about

Yes, it's Brewer's yeast, NOT Nutritional Yeast. Still sounds yummy, though. :)
