I use a dslr...Olympus E520. Nothing high end. They have nicer models now. It is just a kit lens. I usually take between 8 and 12 pics before I find one I like. Sometimes more. I "develop" the pics in Adobe Bridge and finish them in PhotoShop. This is simply setting on the countertop and has just the kitchen light and under cabinet light. But, as you know, I like to do things on the cheap....to warm up the flash and filter it, I pop up the on camera flash and then set a mini white solo cup over it. I adjust the flash strength how I like it as I shooting and it prevents glare and harsh lighting. Costs like a penny to do. heehee

I promote ghetto photography. I can afford other equipment, but where is the challenge in shooting with the best? I have to work harder and hopefully learn more. I do not yet own a single studio light. I like a good lighting challenge.

I would be tempted to get a Canon dslr because I have an older Canon manual camera and some lenses if something happens to this one. The Canon's and Nikon's shoot better at lower light conditions. This one I have makes me really work for those pics. They can be done, but it is certainly a growth opportunity, lol.

For some reason, product photography really amuses me. I promise you, this is a task for me. Nothing comes naturally to me. Some people are so gifted. I have to really work at it. Nevertheless, I really, REALLY enjoy it. I was not in the gifted line when my soul was prepared for mortal entry, lol.

Thanks for the awesome compliment!:throwhearts:

I've got a 'zucchini corer' but I still haven't made one of these yet! I bought the z.corer to do it - just haven't. My bad!

That was a lot of work for a salad, lol. I agree Papa2X. But I have to say it was worth it and can definitely see myself making this often.

http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj545/adobegirl1/gorilla_sandwichsmall.jpg

I did it pretty much like on the video. I made my kale salad (which is my favorite way to eat kale) by grinding up fresh ginger and garlic in the food processor and adding that to the kale pieces. I then poured on some sesame oil and a little braggs (but am now looking for a replacement for that due to those studies...) and some sesame seeds and massaged it all into the leaves of kale and then let it sit for a while until I scooped out the cucumbers. Then I cut up avocado and broke up the walnuts into pieces and cut up some black olives and layered it all like in the video.

I did not have the real tools and so I used an apple corer and a melon scoop. I did have a long handled tea spoon and that helped. I do think the right tools would make it easier.

All in all, for me, this was a successful meal and I'm really glad I made a few of them to have later! I'll definitely make it again. Thanks so much for the video. :eat

Love your collage, adobegirl! I have not tried his recipe yet. I just chopped up what I liked and used that. I may need to try this one now, too. lol I was planning on making one for myself today anyway.

I just scrape out the cucumber with a sharp knife and use a chop stick to tamp the salad into it.

Can't wait to see the fillings that people come up with. Everyone here is so creative!

Ok...so I am totally hooked...this looks so good and it look simple enough, I mean in SAD world we "made" sandwiches right? Well I did, and still do to my children, this isn't that much more complicated.
Will get a corer and some tea spoons, then I am ready to go..whoop whoop, oh and the options are endless....super excited, thank you for the bump TiggerBounce

See, I would do this except I hate cucumbers, mustard greens and olives. ;)

You know what, though... I think I will make some of these for a party.

Okay, trying one today with a raw ranch dressing, avocado and tomato.... yum!

Have to improvise on the tools. Until I can find a zucchini corer I'll try just cutting the cuke in half and using an apple corer on it.... or maybe just make a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond and see if I can find the real deal?

Or maybe just go with the knife/chopstick method, it's awfully cold and snowy out there today!

The best thing about gorilla sandwiches is that they provide a perfect opportunity to talk about raw food. They catch the eye of other far more than an everyday salad!
