View Full Version : nonstick sheets for the dehydrator???

so I just purchased the stainless steel dehydrator to get away from plastic. now, I need those nonstick sheets, but I feel that those have bad ingredients too. I haven't used a nonstick pan or cookware in 20 years! Anyone have any insight?

maybe the cheap parchment paper sold in rolls by the aluminum foil . thats what the chef at addicted to veggies uses when doing the oven dehydration method .
my outlooks been to use parment paper on top of cookie sheets with holes in them , but havent found recytangular cookie sheets with holes in yet , only have found round trays with holes called i think pizza crispers .
worst case scenario im buying cheap cookie sheets then using something with equally spaced holes as a die / patter to drill holes in the trays (place trays on top shhet plywood for drilling) to then use with parchment

or maybe tightly stretch un dyed cheese cloth over racks

If you are covering with parchment, you could even use a canvas mesh?

Honestly, when I use my dehydrator, I simply use a cookie sheet and if it needs to be dried on both sides, then I flip it or move it directly to the rack when it is firm enough to handle. Put a tray on the bottom rack if you do this to catch crumbs, etc. A cookie sheet is not any less permeable than a piece of solid plastic/nylon sheet. If it is messy and wet, I put it on a cookie cooling rack and set that on top of the tray to catch drips and remove the tray when they stop dripping so that I do not get a mess on the bottom. To make fruit roll ups I use waxed paper or saran wrap depending on what I have in the drawer and then leave it on the paper and cut to size and roll it up cleanly.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I did try parchment paper in my current dehydrator and my items stuck to it terribly!!

good ideas. I guess I'll wait to get it...hopefully next week.
I'm going to guess that by the looks of it, a cookie sheet won't fit...but maybe.

no cookie sheet as its only about 14x16 if its one im looking at on ebay . but the round pizza trays with holes im talking about are 14" . i'll bring a link

oh yes your right , wasnt thinking about that . i put in a bid on a couple of the mth dehy's on ebay . but im not in a hurry so going to keep bidding low and see if i can get one real cheap

There are two kinds of parchment paper, one is shiny and one is matte. Here in Canada the shiny one is called silicon paper. I use that in my Ronco.

Make sure the cookie sheet isn't made of aluminum.

I just use the teflex sheet but good luck with that

this is a great idea, but it is made out of aluminized steel. You guys gave me a great idea...my health food store has just started to sell a non stick line that is not from tephlon. I'm going to look at that.

yup, on top of that. all we use is stainless from a reputable source

Make sure the cookie sheet isn't made of aluminum.

I didn't even know there was more than one kind of parchment paper. I need to check into that. Thanks for the info! :) :heart :heart

Until you find your perfect non-stick material, you can use spinach leaves instead as a base. They will stick to whatever you are cooking but not to the tray. Then you can just eat the cracker or whatever with or without the spinach when it is ready!
