What can I add to fresh beet juice to mask the "dirt" and "blood" taste? I know that I need fresh beet juice to help keep my liver healthy!

I love beet juice with carrot-apple, carrot-celery, or really any carrot-based veggie mix. I've added it to green lemonade type juice blends and really enjoyed it, too.

I also love to add it to more savory V8 type tomato based juices.

Actually, I guess I love it added to anything! Don't think I'd drink it on its own, though.

My friend makes the best juice with beets. Peel them and wash them add apples, carrots, celery, and ginger. It is so pretty and delicous.

bahahahaha! I thought it was just me who thought they tasted like dirt. We just do beet juice shots to get it over with. heehee
I found some white beets last time I was at the market and am going to try those and see if they taste any different.

I am also thinking that baby beets might be sweeter than the bigger ones. I had some baby beets on a dinner train with a filling, sort of like a beet ravioli with cashew filling, and those I loved. Maybe I will have to eat them instead of drink them and get baby beets. I am going to try growing some this year and see what I think.

I love beet juice..... guess I'm a minority!! That said - I really like it with apples and ginger! actually, ginger makes almost any juice better imo :juicy:

I see Traceyraw already mentioned peeling them. I just watched a Dan the Man video (Life Regenerator) "Blood Transfusion" where he showed how to peel a beet and to cut the top off just below the dark 'dirt ring'.

Personally, I never peeled a beet and always juiced the top - so I might give that a try!

As it was mention, it is absolutely delicious with carrot juice and celery.

p.s I always pilled my beet. I use gloves, lol...

Good idea on using the gloves Raw Angel Mom. I've got a dedicated pair in the kitchen to use when I'm chopping up jalapeno, I'll remember to use those next time! I've got golden beets right now, they didn't have the red. They're good!

I'm surprised that Dan the Man peels his carrots. True later he said he only peels them about 1/2 the time. I never peel them. Anyone else? Absolutely peel beets though:)

I peel them if I'm going to use them any other way but juicing. But for juicing - nope :)

I just wanted to comment that the best beet juice I ever had came from beets that were organic from a local farm that was less than 50 miles from the store I bought them from. This was when I had the pleasure of visiting my brothers in California. It made the sweetest tasting rich flavored beet juice I've ever had. It's really hard going from farm fresh organic produce to the sub-standard stuff in the grocery stores.

Mmm, love beets. I juice beets with parsley, carrots, pear, green apple, ginger, garlic and if I have one, cucumber. The ginger definitely cuts the taste and spices it up. Yum! :)

They can content a harmful bacteria. You should at the very least brushed them. Unless freshly pick, i will pilled them too. Freshly pick, you can just do a nice good brushing.

Funny, i didn't use the glove for the hot pepper, maybe i should now, lol... thank you also for the suggestion.

I have never eaten beets before, and I have recently found out that I have high blood pressure, and read that beets will lower this almost immediately. I am willing to be a guinea pig as I start juicing back up. :) Will the "white beets" help blood pressure the same as the "red beets"? Is there a difference in flavor?

We think fennel goes well with beets, juicied or pickled.

Orange goes really well and it makes a nice chilled raw soup too. Very summery.

I like to juice both the red beets and the gold ones. With the reds I have juiced them with cherries and pomegranate. But that recipe is kind of expensive but really good. I also do another juice with red grapes, red beets, ginger, and cranberries. One recipe I make with the gold ones is carrots, gold beet, ginger, and apples.

Not sure about white but the gold beets taste sweeter to me than the reds.

Yeah this dirt taste everyone is talking about has me baffled. To me beets are pretty sweet. I am in California too, maybe the beets are better quality around here.

My daughter thinks they taste like dirt and won't eat or drink them. I think it's more of an earthy taste, too. I love the taste.

I have beat juice here on my desk at work. :) I make it very similar to other replies on this thread:

1 beat, 3 apples, 3 stalks of celery, 2 carrots, 1 cucumber, 2 plum tomatoes, 1 lemon (peal sliced off), 1 piece of ginger no bigger than my thumb.

Honestly, I think, the beat juice by itself is awesome. It is so sweet and earthy (I like that). If I run out of beats and have to drink my juice without it, I can hardly stand it.

Watch out with the ginger. I am sure it's great for you, but can it over power your juice in a hurry.

I got some beautiful local, organic ones, peeled them and juiced them with ginger...not bad!!!
