PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!

There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.

And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!

Here's my commitment (when I'm fasting):

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.

Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.

We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!

Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?

Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.

I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.

And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!

So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.

I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

DAY 4 of a juice fast -- it's going great. I juice 3 quarts of juice each (for my husband and myself) every morning ... (1) citrus (1) green (1) veggie. I alternate through the day --- and it works well. So far today, I've finished off the citrus, and am about to start on the green.

I'm going to check out the recipe thread, because I recall seeing some very interesting recipes there ... so I can change it up some on the weekend.

Day 3 here. I was feeling normal up til a few hours ago when i had a citrus green drink. I only drank half and started feeling bloated. I took a nap and woke up and I can actually hear the juice sloshing in my stomach still. Ugh. I am also so cold I am shivering like a chihuahua. I do use ginger in my juice but its not helping.

Husband is on day 3 and he had to come home from work. He is feeling very weak, cold, and arms and legs are achy. He is in bed under a huge pile of blankets.

This is not fun :( i miss the easy first 2 days.

Hope you and your husband are feeling better Raene!

Yesterday was our Day 3, I was freezing in the evening - kept wrapping up in a blanket. My husband, however, doesn't seems to have Any effects of this fast - which amazes me. The shivers have passed for me and I'm doing okay today. Hope your day 4 is terrific!

I'm on day 4 and feeling good. I felt really icky last night but today I feel oh so better. I'm on the first fast of my life and I'm really enjoying it.

I have been having fruit juice in the morning about 16 oz. Is that too much fruit? I'm not counting the apple I put in my green juices.

I can't seem to stop thinking about food!!!!! Probably because of my job...I work around food. But, I'm in my days off and that's why I thought this would be the perfect time to do this. So far I've only had my Lemonade. This is totally mental! I'm actually not hungry at all and my lemonade is just yummy!!! Hubby's even being supportive and feeding the kids himself so i dont have to even be in the kitchen. So, why can't I stop thinking about food!!!!

I am finding that the more I fast the less variety I want. Its so odd! We have 14 different things to juice and all I want is carrots and pineapples. ???

Day 12 down. My core body temperature is really elevated apparently. I had a checkup today ad all they could talk about was why b\my base temperature was so high yet I was not running a fever.
Only had a quart of grape/celery/lemon/cucumber/ginger juice very diluted in 3 quarts of water. I can't stand to drink anymore juice. Everything is too sweet to me even water. More detox I suspect.

Day 29 here and cruising along

I plan to finish at 50 days

Been really irritable the last couple of days. Not fun

I've been thinking about food a lot. I bought the Kindle version of Alesha's book and I've been drooling over the recipes. Like Renee I'm not hungry but I am a bit preoccupied with food

Day 24 is over. Looking forward to breaking my fast on Tuesday, 30 days, though only because it means I have a week before I go see my boyfriend in Maryland, oh, and 2 of my kids. I can definitely see how things have gotten easier for me this time around. I haven't been nearly as preoccupied with thoughts of food adn I haven't craved the chewing motion either. I have done this before, so know I can do it again and that makes so that makes the doubts or desire to quit early a no-go. Things have been going great for me. Trying to get all my fruit used up before the end of my fast although I just bought a pineapple today, it looked sooo good. I have begun to dehydrate things in preparation for after my fast. I did this last time, too, and never had any problems with fixing things while fasting and it seems that way this time. Plus it gives me something to look forward to. I have been very clear during this fast and I've finally started sleeping fewer hours. That said, I'm off to bed.

Hi everyone!

Day 35 of my 45 day juice fast. I've done many 30 day fasts but this is the longest one I've attempted. I'm nearly there and I can't wait to sink my teeth into a whole fruit or vegetable! I think I'll pass out from excitement. I've even been dreaming of fruit lol. My energy levels have been all over the place. Yesterday I felt terribly lethargic and today I managed a two hour walk before 'breakfast'. I didn't plan it either. I just got bored waiting around for my car to be serviced and went for a little walk.

Day 3 is going well so far! I'm in SUCH great company!!!! I am so impressed with so many of you making it to 30 days and beyond!!! I hope to one day do 30 days too! Then I'll really be part of "da club"!!!!!

I've had to cut back on the Maple Syrup in my lemonade a bit. You're
supposed to use 2 T per 10 oz H2O, but for reason it's too sweet today. Much better with just 1 T.

....sippin' on my Lemonade!!!!! Yummmmm!

Hey guys, i'm back after going MIA from january's fast.
I am going to attempt possibly a really long fast. Somewhere in the region of 150+ days
I'm starting tomorrow (03/02) and am hoping that this fast will help me combat some personal mental and health issues.

So glad to be back :)

ReneeH, I really give it to you working around food. I could not do it. This is Day 21 and I feel bad. I am alternting between doing water fasting and the MC. I do not like the MC, but do it for the energy on days I am too weak to do water. I did the herbal laxative tea yesterday and boy oh boy that BM was to die for.

I do not feel bad physically, but mentally. I have been searching and searching and searching and I cannot land a job. It is becoming so frustrating as my bank account gets lower and lower. That is one of the reasons I think I'm staying on the fast because money for food is scarse and also my refrigerator at the moment is on the blink.

So, other than some discomfort in what I think are my kidneys and a very slight headache (nothing serious at all), I feel great pysically. Another thing that keeps me fasting is the dreams and sleep. When my head hits the pillow I am out and sleep soundly the entire night and the dreams are to die for. So deep and real. I wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day.

So, pressing on. Happy fasting everyone!!!

P.S. - I must stop reading recipes. It all looks so yummy that it makes me want to break.

P.S.S. Weighed this morning and woo hoo, I am 199.6, below the 200 lb. mark for the first time in months. (Well, barely under)
Started at 223. I know weighing is not good, but it helps me stay motivated even when the scale does not move or like the other day, I actually gained a pound.

Working through Day 5 -- its going well. Husband and I juiced a myriad of veggies this morning, and the result was simply divine. We threw in lots of carrots, some celery, an apple, hot green pepper, onion, garlic, cucumber, beets and tomato -- it was sooooooo good. In fact, we liked it so much, we made another batch when he came home from work. yum.

I've been craving a lot of water today, so a drank a little less juice, but I don't feel hungry.
Heading out to go shopping ... gotta restock those veggies!

Day 13 done, 110 days to go. Today was a dry fast day ( my first one) because even water was giving me heartburn and the taste of juice was making me nuts already. It is not bad actually; only really dry chapped lips. I plan to switch over from juice to water on Tuesday and hope to do at least 30 days on water but will see. Plan to soak tonight in a super hot detox bath with baking soda and epsom salts.
If you have not been doing your skin brushing please do so. Initially it might feel too rough but it really is very helpful to detox and great for general wellbeing as well. Also will leave you with super soft skin at the end of your fast.
For those feeling weak and tired, Qi Gong is very helpful. You can do the sitting meditations instead of the physical practice and still feel rejuvenated and energized. Google Robert Peng as a good starting point.

Shinjite, may I ask why you're fasting for that long? 110... that's pretty dangerous. A 30 day water fast is even dangerous. I hope you're taking lots of supplements and being monitored if you're fasting for that length of time.

Hello Everyone,

I had to stop in January because I ended up having a family function that was very important to everyone. Today is day 1 again for me. I don't have any plans for how long i'm going to fast for, i'm going to take it one day at a time and see how it goes. Right now i'm sipping on pineapple juice. It's so yummy. I was craving pineapple juice. I'm not sure what i'm going to make next.

Today was day 1 for me.
It went extremely terrible.
I just felt rubbish all day and kept battling with myself whether to break my fast or not.
Luckily my boyfriend was there to support me and remind me that the first few days were the roughest.
Day 1 has never been this bad though.
I watched Fat, sick and nearly dead for some inspiration though.
Had apple, carrot and celery though.
I really want to try some kale but I can never find any here in the UK.

Made it through day 6 fine. Attended a raw potluck .. That was interesting. I took along veggie juice, made out of basic salad ingredients, and a huge salad to share. So the folks there chewed theirs and I drank mine. Super Bowl tomorrow .. Have to concoct a great juice to sip on for the game.

Hi ushotmedown, try to hang in there if you can. Your boyfriend is right, the first 3 days are usually the roughest. Your brain is trying to talk you into eating and what you're feeling is a normal response. After three or so days you won't have the hunger pangs anymore because you brain will figure out "hey, she's not going to feed me so I may as well get the energy somewhere else".

As for Kale, it's usually hard to find it in normal fruit and veggie shops here in Aus. I usually buy it an organic shop but if they're out of stock I sometimes buy it online. See if you can find an online organics shop in the UK. Here's one that has kale but I don't know if they deliver to where you are:

Cheers :)

Well, yesterday I got my first major detox. I had flu like symptoms and a sore throat. I come home in the evenings and go straight to bed and sleep like a baby!!!!! It is so great that I can come home and nap, wake up and still have a restful night's sleep. Usually if I nap, I am up all night.

I have switched back to water for a few days because I can stay home and rest. Feeling good except for the sore throat. A friend remarked how much weight I have lost (25 lbs) today and you are really starting to see it all over. I never realized how much money I spend on food since I've been fasting I have saved so much.

I have set an end date for the fast for March 3rd, which will be 50 days total. I think I will be fine until then. I am not working at the moment so I am able to stay home and rest quite a bit and I am not hungry except when I get out my Raw recipe books (yum). Gearing up to do Raw exclusively for one year. I am so excited!!!! The chest pain I was experiencing have seemed to subside so I feel really happy about that.

On Tuesday, at Day 25, will be the longest I've ever fasted, so I am feeling proud, but think about food often. I am getting better as I am out and about and I see people eating I just tell myself that I do not want that type of food any longer and the feeling will pass.

Finding that it is essential that I meditate, pray and read uplifting literature to get me through and the results spiritually have been amazing!!!!

Happy fasting All!!!!

so i'll alternate between the 3 . but to start off i plan on going several days on water as ive zero want for anything in my tract .
im thinking the sore esophogus / throat is because the 30 day fast stirred up alot of pollution at a cellular level that needs to
be washed out so im gung ho to get right back on empty

I'm Back! .. well I start my 2nd fast tomorrow..

I have had a really rough time for the past 5 days on raw - Was fine at first, now I just don't seem to be digesting anything, I'm always bloated and full of gas..

I want to fast again to clear my digestive track & also loose the rest of my excess weight. Following that I want to plan a much slower transition into raw so that I don't have the same issues.

Hi,
Today is the third day of my juice fast/feast. I plan to fast for at least 30 days and so far its going well. I have done the master cleanse and this is soo much easier. I have much more energy and I love the variety. This month is my "marry health and wellness month" as
opposed to the "courting and flirting" I've done in the past. I had a really rough 6 months and picked up (or repicked up) some really bad habits. My eating was a mess, this is really bad 'cause I am a celiac and I picked up smoking and caffeine again. I am using this month to totally reboot my wellness. I have signed up for hot yoga and meditation classes.

So glad to find this thread!

maggie im starting off on tea and water as many days possible , drinking dandelion and white tea currently . just trying white tea for first time and really like , drinking it plain ands its very mild

when / if i start getting drained on this fast im juicing tomatoes with parsley and garlic , running it through a nylon mesh bag so no pulp .
and also oranges and apples decent in my local markets so i'll juice them too

i also oil pulling every morning in effort to draw any toxic mucous up out of esophogus as quickly as possible instead of letting it sit there in esophogus / throat region and becoming a nasty coating on tongue . i used coconut oil last fast for its anti biotical properties but prob go with sesame oil as reading it gets teeth whiter than other oils and with all the tea ive been drinking this past 40 days during alot of fasting i want to try keeping teeth clean . and i know from experience oil pulling does clean / whiten teeth

It's so good to see so many continuing with fasting. Today is day 29 for me. I've been extremely busy which is a big help in keeping me from thinking about the days. This fast has been easier and harder both. I'm hoping my next long fast will be longer than 30 days. Right now, I'm stopping at 30 whic h will give me a week to transition back to whole foods and then I'm going to MD to see my bf for a week. I also have #6 grandchild on the way and mom is having a really rough time of it, so I'll probably be going to stay with them for 4-6 wks or whatever they need. I won't be going to them in SC until mid March though, as I need to finish up this quarter and get signed up for the next quarter of college. Luckily, I can take all my classes online. Needless to say, I have been and will be busy for the next few months. Hoping to get some shorter fasts in during that time. I absolutely love knowing this thread is available for support! I'll try to check in tomorrow, but if I don't, good luck to everyone in receiving what you're looking for in your fast.:cheer:

I'm jumping in! Everyone is doing great and I'm getting so motivated by reading everyone's posts.

Day 5 of 10 day MC for me. Doing pretty well over all. Feeling the most energy today. Days 1-2 were toughest so far. I feel revived and light. I am planning on doing a few days of juice fast while weaning off the MC. Detox for me has been grogginess on and off, sudden mood swings, slight acne, muscle pain here and there but nothing horrible. I had a bit of "cold" days 1 and 2 with mucus but now cleared and haven't been on allergy meds for 5 days. I work with animals so this is a huge thing!

Hi everyone! Today is Day 4 for me. No timeframe planned - my fast usually tells me when it's time to stop. I was getting bored with my raw choices and eating too many almonds and pumpkin seeds so time for a fasting TuneUp. I did 14 days last October before going raw. Have fasted periodically for the last 10 years. It's what you do Afterwards that really makes a difference (and has bitten me a couple times).

I'm excited as my current weight is 202 and I will be under 200 by week's end. This time last year I was 257. I'm allowing myself to appreciate my hard work. I no longer have some of the bad habits that have plagued my in the past, so am looking to a much healthier life.

I am back again ... this time I will not analyze everything to death. My fridge currently has grapefruit, oranges, lemons, apples and a case of red grapes. I have everything I need including the juicers - of course I do, I have been working on this for over two years.

I have seen amazing transformations in people's lives - now it is time for me. I would like to incorporate the Monday water fast too - I shall see how it goes.

I work out of the house, so I will be preparing juice beforehand. I have these really cute stainless steel milk bottles and mason jars.

I will check in later - thanks everyone.

Verve.

Hello All, I ended my fast on Tuesday at Day 25. I know they say you should not end on a low, but I could not take it any longer. I had a very sore throat and weak to the point I had to remain bed ridden. I broke the fast with a melon and I must say, it was like being in heaven. I have subsequently had juices, fruit and a Raw soup which also taste sooooooooooo good!!! (Sorry). I lost 28 lbs. Now. I begin to implement the lifestyle changes to ensure the weight does not come back and release the remaing 50 or so lbs. I have to lose. I began feeling better the evening that I ate my first melon, so I guess I stopped the detox.

This fast was so amazing for me in so many ways!!!! Not just the weight loss, but a peace came over me that "passth all understanding." It is so hard to describe, but I am now a new fan of the water fasting. When you are completely empty inside, the Spirit of God rushes in and it is like a loving parent holding you and letting you know that you are o.k. and loved greatly!!!! I must admit as one who has suffered from low self esteem most of my life, this is a Revelation!!!! I have never felt this in my entire life and that alone will ensure that fasting is a part of my health protocol for the rest of my life.

One question if someone could answer if they are able? The last two days there was this incredibly nasty smell, I think in my sinus cavities, but not sure. It smelled like a cereal I used to eat, but it was rotten. I think that this is this stored up rotted food that has been in my bowels for Gods knows how long, but was not sure. That was another reason I had to stop the fast. It was horrible!!!

I have began back on a Raw foods program and will follow with lots of exercise and yoga and will fast for about 10-12 days every couple of months. I was able to release 50 pounds doing this about two years ago and have no doubt I can lose it again.

Thanks to all for your support and answering my question and HAPPY FASTING!!!

Ok Isn't there a rule about mentioning food in the fasting thread ? - Just joking! - Congrats on day 40 aviatrix! Hats off to you :)

lol I could have gone into much more detail but I stopped myself. I actually have planned menus in my head of what I'll be making and eating for the next two months! I believe the rule is there to stop fasters drooling but I'm a faster and talk of food or no food, I've been obsessed over food (solids) for 40 days now. I just thought it's very important to discuss how to break a fast in a fasting thread as well as what you have in a fast, which is why I typed it. I didn't type anything that exciting. I don't think anyone's going to get too excited over my cucumber. Typing the word "cucumber" won't temp anyone to eat it whole as actually seeing and holding one, and well you have have see and hold one when you're juicing. The three days after my fast will be very light and very bland to kick start my digestive system. Jumping straight into eating what you normally would before a fast is a big no no. It may be okay to a few people but the majority need to take it easy before digging into anything too dry and too much.

Anyway, thanks for the hats off. When I complete this fast, I'll have gone 15 days longer than I normally fast so that's a big achievement for me. I won't ever fast for this long again though, unless it's for medical reasons. 30 days once a year is enough for me otherwise I'll fade away into nothing :)

All the best on your fast too :)

Did I mention that I weigh <200 now?

Congrats! That's awesome!

It's day 8 for me. I am realizing I am going to miss this fasting thing... I've gotten into such a routine, and my days are planned in order to make this easier for me. I am going to miss that. The idea of having such a controlled lifestyle is alluring to say in the least. When I was a sad eater things were never planned, things were random and spontaneous and there was no consistency... Even in my thoughts! This cleanse has certainly begun to reprogram my brain as well as my body. Life is easier fasting/cleansing, at least for me since food is so triggering for me. I'm beginning to toy with the idea that cleansing/fasting on a regular basis is going to be in the future for me. Like every few months or so. I am liking this.... A LOT.

The biggest selling point for me to go raw was that I could continue the fasting vibe after returning to food. Going back to eating was always a letdown for me. Whenever I finish this fast I think the buzz will remain!

Hi R'Mila,

lol, where do I begin? I did my first fast about 12 or 13 years ago. It's not just fasting that's given me results but raw in general. When I was younger, I was so unhealthy... I was a drinker, smoker, I ate crappy food, partied every night, crammed work and uni and was stressed to the max all the time. As I mentioned in another thread, I had severe endometriosis and was in and out of hospital constantly having the doctors (or butchers) scraping out my insides all the time. I developed adhesions which bound everything together and had all sorts of problems. I began a raw diet during a time when eating raw was frowned upon. There were no forums or support groups and people treated me as if I was a lepper because I ate raw lol. These forums are refreshing so I pop in every now and then to share my experience. I wish they were around when I began doing it. My first fast was real interesting to say the least. Every time I'd be a little weak, everyone around me would panic, telling me I'm going to die and begging me to quit lol. I got tired of them and stopped talking about fasting and raw and carried out on my own. I persisted despite everyone telling me I was crazy and noticed a huge improvement to my health. My periods got lighter and much less painful. Month by month I noticed more improvement, not just with the endo but everything else too. My lungs were clearer. I had stopped coughing... I used to sound like an emphysema patient every morning. My asthma cleared, I stopped getting colds, my tonsillitis went away, my eyesight improved, my joint pain was gone, my digestive system improved, my skin looked amazing and most of all, my energy levels were way up. I also began yoga and have been a yoga junkie since then which has its own benefits. Noone thinks I'm crazy anymore and everyone acknowleges what I've achieved and come to me for health advice. I'm the local witch doctor :D

I now fast once a year during the summer for 30 days. It's not wise to fast in cold weather as your body temperature drops significantly. This time round I did 45 days because I missed last year due to a medical condition which the bloody hospital caused. I went into emergency one night because I couldn't breathe. I had a rib injury and costochondritis and they didn't diagnose it. Instead they convinced me that it was a gastric problem and sent me home with PPIs (acid blockers). I was on them for a month and when I stopped, I developed horrible gastritis. They increased my dosage and of course I got worse and eventually got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink water. I was on a drip in hospital and they kept giving me more of the PPIs, even injecting me with high doses. I spiralled downwards and along with the pain, weakness and malnutrition, I became depressed. I also continued to have the breathing problem. The idiots wouldn't listen to me when I was telling them that the PPIs caused the gastritis and sent around two psychiatrists to "have a chat". That's when I knew it was time to leave. I asked them to pull the drip off and went home, freaking out, unable to eat or drink. I almost died (this went on for over a year). I couldn't lay down either as I was unable to breathe at all laying down flat. I had 5 nights sleep in over a year and really didn't think I was going to make it. Anyway, I'll stop there because it's a really long story but to cut it short, I juiced myself to health... juicing and eating easily digested anti-inflammatory food and my gastritis slowly went away. I did the 45 day juice fast this time to get my digestive system back to where it was before the doctors made a mess of it and so I can eat the raw foods that I used to eat. I've been battling on my own for two years with eating raw and juicing (along with supplements) and I'm much better so that's another benefit. I’m not 100% raw as I still have trouble digesting certain foods and certain non-raw foods have helped me with inflammation (gastritis). I’m slowly working towards getting my cast iron back that conventional medicine stole from me.

If you're juicing for only 24 hours, although it doesn’t hurt, you won't get too much out of that because it takes at least 3 days before you begin to detox. People believe that when you’re feeling off, that’s when you’re detoxing but from experience, I think one’s body begins to detox when you stop having those symptoms. You go in and out of detox all the time during a fast and the longer you fast, the more you detox. You do get some discomfort from detoxing but it’s nothing compared to the first few days. When you’re feeling hungry and weak, your brain is signalling your body to slow down and to eat. It’s only when your brain says “oh well she’s not going to feed me” that’s when it begins to look for toxins in the body to burn as fuel. That’s when you’re detoxing.

Okay I wrote too much but I hope my little novel helps you or someone else :)

Thank you so much for relating your experience. I'm so glad you've regained your health. I have experienced signficant benefits since incorporating raw, but still have some healing and detoxing to do. I'm sure I would benefit from an extended fast, but need to prepare myself pychologically (no food aspect), acquire more knowledge (sift through all the different philosophies) and physicallly (having everything onhand and prepared so I don't break it prematurely).
I will continue to "snoop" and be inspired by everyone's experience on this thread. Hopefully I'll be able to add my 2 scents soon.

maggie im starting off on tea and water as many days possible , drinking dandelion and white tea currently . just trying white tea for first time and really like , drinking it plain ands its very mild

when / if i start getting drained on this fast im juicing tomatoes with parsley and garlic , running it through a nylon mesh bag so no pulp .
and also oranges and apples decent in my local markets so i'll juice them too

i also oil pulling every morning in effort to draw any toxic mucous up out of esophogus as quickly as possible instead of letting it sit there in esophogus / throat region and becoming a nasty coating on tongue . i used coconut oil last fast for its anti biotical properties but prob go with sesame oil as reading it gets teeth whiter than other oils and with all the tea ive been drinking this past 40 days during alot of fasting i want to try keeping teeth clean . and i know from experience oil pulling does clean / whiten teeth

2012 is the year of fasting

after pulling i run warm water in utility sink and swish mouth out with several coffee cups full of warm water , ending up being about a quart of warm water i run through mouth to really wash out .
then i have a tooth brush soaking in coffee cup full of dish soap water during a fast and rinse it off and brush entire mouth , roof / tongue / etc , with just warm water .
i throw these brushes out every week and start with new one . i always load up on cheap tooth brushes at dollar stores . after this proccess i spray down sink with disinfectant and leave disinfectant
standing til later when scrub down entire tub

i more so use baking powder

but usually i brush entire mouth / tongue / teeth while constantly gargling with drink after drink of warm water , and floss with those little disposable plastic floss picks

the oil , yes i buy mine at grocery store but you cant get the dark type as its from roasted seeds i think and dont taste too hot . have to get unrefined or something like that . its light in color

Hey Good People :)

I'm juice fasting only for today and tomorrow. I juice fasted for the entire month of January, so now am pretty much just on a maintenance plan to support my health and fitness goals. Great to read all of your posts! Thus far today I've had distilled water with MSM and lemon juice, a green drink, pineapple juice, and I have an apple, grapefruit and orange drink for later. I wish it were another green drink, but oh well. I WILL make it through this two day fast! :) Fast on! :)))

Hello Fasters,
In preparation for a future fast, I was wandering how much produce you used per day and/or how much juice you drank each day?

When I first began juicing, I went overboard and juiced 8 times a day. I ended up wasting a lot of food. These days I don't bother with so much and juice whenever I feel like it. Usually on a day where I have to do a lot of stuff to do, I juice more. If I have to go out, I make sure I have a nice big glass before leaving so I have a bit of energy to do things. On days where I'm home relaxing I may only juice one or two times or just have water or herbal tea. I also have a glass of spiralina every other day. If there are days where I have too much to do I will even have a glass of really thinned out almond milk mixed with fruit juice. This slows down the detox a little but gives you energy for quite a few hours. I also do it for the vitamin E which is very healing to the gut and in my case, that's what I need. Other days I'll just have water and lemon juice. I usually get weak but if I sit it out, my body finds the energy by burning fuel from other sources. There are no rules but don't go overboard as you'll get sick of juicing and cleaning the juicer.

Wow, this two day juice fast is really helping with a reset.....of, well....EVERYTHING. I'm convinced that short fasts are the way to go...for me that is, not referring to anyone else. :) I have some baby bok choy, celery and granny Smith juice, pineapple juice and a grapefruit, apple and kiwi juice today....all nearly quart sized, so this is great. I had my distilled water w/MSM and lemon juice this morning so that'll put me at a gallon of liquids today. Woot!! :)

Jumping in late but its day 4 of a juice feast for me and I'm feeling great. I was freeeeezing cold on day one but that has regulated. Been gentle with myself as far as exercising so far, just doing yoga and some rebounding but last night I had so much energy I had to go for a walk/run. My mood is fantastic, I'm full of energy and loving this. I did notice that most of the juices I was making were too sweet for me and I wound up feeling very jittery and unstable so I had to go looking for some more savory juices to balance things out. Sipping on a fresh V-alotmorethan8 juice now. Yummers!

2012... year of the fast!!!

We fasted for 3 or 4 days... broke and now we are ready to fast again tomorrow. It's funny... we begin with "we are fasting till we hit the beach" and then... something comes up. Oh well... at least we are fasting a LOT compared to amount of days we are eating.

It's just so different fasting with someone than fasting alone. In some ways it's way better... we keep each other fasting... in other ways it's not good. One person decides to break and the other breaks to support them... (it's our commitment to each other... we fast together, we break together that way no one feels like they are letting the other person down. Complete support - regardless...) But tomorrow... if a fasting day for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100 pounds of apples
4 cantaloupes
1 pineapple
4 grapefruit
4 pears

All organic!

mmm mmmm goooooood stuff.

Of course we have tomatoes, greens (kale, spinach and carrot greens), beets, peppers, carrots, fennel, garlic, ginger, mint and basil as well. After all... we gotta have lots of variety!

Hi all,

I'm starting my spring juice fast today too. I've been on a Monday (40 hr) water fast over the winter and I really liked it. Today will be water too and then tomorrow I will be on the juice again.

I have a question about honey, I have always been very strict on my juice fasts, nothing else then water and fresh juice and sometimes some herbal tea. However I really like honey in my tea so I'm wondering how you deal with that. Is it a yes or a no and why.

I am thinking about a 10 day fast which will take me to the end of February. My goal is detox and weight loss. I am at a good weight now (143 pounds). However I want to be lighter for this summers running season. So far I am doing the Lululemon half in Vancouver in August and the Chicago marathon in October. I want to see if being lighter will make me faster. I am sick of being slow!
I want to be around 130 pounds give or take some. I don't need to get there in this fast but by April/May I want to be there.

I am really so happy with this thread!!:heart

Stay strong!

Day 2.

I will ad juice today. Yesterday was just water, no problems because I have been doing that for the past few months.

Anybody else on a juice fast right now?

I am on a juice fast as well, my first one ever. I am on day 5 out of 10 and I am feeling fine. Days 2 and 3 were pretty rough because I was experiencing typical detox symptoms (for me they were mainly aches, weakness and feeling feverish) but nothing I didn't expect or couldn't handle.

I have been thinking about having a day or two of just water, so we would be switching haha. Does that sound alright or should I stick with the juices for the entire fast? What do you guys think?

Good day, day #1 water fast for me!

Yesterday, i decided not to start but to do juicing, smoothie and finishing up some of the produce.

I am taking one day of the time and of course hoping to do a very long water fast.

Love the simplicity of water fasting, no lunch, just filling up my water jar, lol...

All the best to all of you!

My 350Vert arrived this morning. This will be my first fast of any sort so I am going to shoot for 5 days and go from there. Will be off to the market shortly. Is this a good place for beginner questions? It appeared to be one of the more active threads.

I am not coming from a raw diet of any sort and understand the transition can be harder this way but, I have always been one to go in head first. Any advice would be great.

Congratulations with your juicer.

Let me know if you like it to juice the green?

I love that machine for my fruits, i used it mainly for fruit juice

Don't be hard on yourself, this is a great accomplishment to do this juice fast. Your body so need a brake and this is a great gesture that you are doing for yourself.

Don't forget to go in nature and get some nature vitamin D from the sun.

All the best to you!

Yeah, i hold on to the water fast yesterday.... So day #2 for me. I am very excited.

No major symptom yesterday, except for being light head sometime. I think this is because i was going nut on salt since i broke my last water fast. Salt is addictive, so I think my body is still adjusting. I was going for sea veggies and himalyan salt. I must have needed it, because i usually don't like salt or this is old craving that surface, lol... anyway, back on the water fast and i am so so happy with this.

All the best to all of you!

Day 4 here,

I have been juice fasting many times but these were the easiest first 3 days ever. Interesting how every juice fast is different. I am wondering if it is because my first day was a water fast? That is one thing that I did differently this time around.
I am even doing my regular workout routine. Running and kettlebell training alternating days.
Yesterday I had a carrot, grapefruit, lime and ginger juice. It was great, you should try it even if it's just to admire the color!! :)

Michigan: Pull ups are great for working the entire core. Has done wonders for me!! Even though it seems like a lot of shoulder and back work, you really need your entire core to pull your body up. Also front and overhead squats are really good ab workers.

Stay strong all, I might do 21 days. We'll see how it goes....

Howdy fellow fasters!

I'm excited to start my 30 day green juice & fruite juice fast! I will start Friday 24, 2012 to March 24, 2012. Please join me and let's support each other. My intention is to effortlessly transition to a raw organic lifestyle. I'll be doing two cups of intensive green juices daily and two cups of lemon water and four cups of water. I take Super foods, 5,000 units of D3, B12 and raw refined flax seed. I put all this stuff into my green juices. Fruit juice will be oranges.

I will also consume about 6 ounces of wheat grass weekly.

Let the games begin!

Love

Welcome new juicers!!! So nice to have you here. It is very helpful to have some support even if it's just virtual. We travel together!

Day 5 for me and feeling great again. Sorry but true. I've had a few harder juice fasts before but this one is a breeze. Ran 5 miles yesterday.
I also try to get away from the word fasting for myself. A juice fast is not really a fast in the way that you don't get any food. The amount of calories and the nutrients I am getting are plenty to sustain for a long time. In fact you could basically live on it. Don't get me wrong, I am not an extremist at all, I eat everything when I am eating. However I do think a lot of things or words can mess with your head and I think fasting is one of them. It's like depriving yourself and nobody wants that. For me it's kinda negative and that's when my brain starts sabotaging. This is how I feel, of course you can call it a fast if you want to :)

The other thing that can mess with my head is the scale. Seriously, I can be all happy on cloud 9 and feeling great and energetic and all but the moment I step on the scale and it does not reflect that, I can immediately lose all of that good feeling. I guess like a lot of women that's how I have learned that behavior from all kinds of previous issues. NOT this juice fest I am telling you! I am not stepping on the scale at all, I am going to focus on the process, how I feel and my training. I am not going to weigh until day 10 and maybe not even then. It's totally ridiculous that a number can mess you up so bad!

Ok those are my thoughts this morning. I am off making my green juice, I used to have greens in the latter part of the day but I start with them now. Oh and I had fresh young coconut water after my run yesterday. DELISH!, I had it before but yesterday it tasted so good. I'm buying a few more today!

Stay strong!!

Day 6 still good!

Don't have much time but just checking in.

I am going to do my regular weekly 40 hr water fast this Monday. Never done that during a juice fast but I feel so good that it should be ok.

I"m trying my run today but there's a snow storm....BOO!

just entering day 6 . might eat tonite . but if do im in mode all 2012 of not eating more than 7 days i a row before getting back on another fast .
with the end result being at minimum to not eat at least half the days , 183 , of the year . and hopefully alot more than that as here at age 53
having grown up on standard american meat potatoes junk food diet til going ethical vegan 18 years ago ive a bunch of built up internal pollution
that im completely focused on washing out

yes goodcat its the logical mode . we know now weve aten wrong most our lives and only way to have a shot at greatly improving state of body is to wash out all the cellular pollution via fasting .
not the most joyus task to undetake is a long term era of fasting , but if ones wise and focused enough to march through it the end results shall be joyous

Day 9. Doing good and feeling really 'normal'. I don't know if that's a good word but I don't feel anything different in this fast than when I am not fasting. I have energy, no detox issues. I guess I'll take it for what it is. Not complaining.

Finally weighed myself. I lost 6 pounds which is a lot. I am really already on a good weight so I did not expect to lose that much. I do want to lose 10 pounds because of running season though, I want to try to be faster this year and see what a lower body weight will do. It's not going to be easy or pretty! Ha!

Hopefully there will be more fasters in March to keep me going.

Stay strong all!!

One more day and then I'm feasting/fasting :) I really am excited and getting myself ready for a nice long fast. At least that is what I'm wanting. We'll see how this fast goes. I've been reading over my fasting books for some encouragement and its really helping.

Hanneke... hopefully we'll be able to fast together for awhile and encourage one another :)
